  3. When you are SLU and ESPN offers you an event like this, you don’t tell them no. It will be a great opportunity for the program to showcase itself.

  4. Saw one post where Trilly said he was headed here. could be a Diamond in the rough. Last year Freshman played limited at Creighton. Was Gatorade player of the year for Nebraska senior year. State champ

  5. I personally think with the Schertz offense I watched in the NIT, we don't need a pure point guard. They get out and run and everyone is moving even in the half court. Assuming Schertz will try to implement the same offense we need speed and shooters. A lot of dribbling is a fail. All need vision and passing skills and unselfish attitudes.

  6. According to The Athletics rankings, Avila is 3, Jimerson is 28 and Swope is 31. From what I can tell, they would join Indiana as being the only schools to get 3 players in the top 35 so far.

  7. I think the key phrase in Robbie's video was...After the money, St. Louis U checked all the boxes. He had numerous offers, some maybe for more cash but he came here because we checked all the boxes. The same is true of Coach Schertz. After the money, we checked all the boxes. What does that mean? It means that SLU is a place you can come to and ...Grow, thrive and stay....ie check all the boxes. Bottom line...Robbie's video explaining why he came to SLU does not only shed light as to why he came here but in turn will be a great recruiting tool for future players to watch and help them make their decision. He will not be the last player to check all the boxes.

  9. With 7 players, Schertz’s roster construction already makes way more sense than any of Ford’s full rosters.

  10. Swope has played as a 1 before, and he has solid ball-handling skills... he's really more of an undersized 2 though. Having such a small 2 limits the kind of player who can play at 1 though. I don't think there will be a meaningful difference between 1-3 (1-4?) in the half court under Schertz, though.

  11. When an offensive minded coach who understands how to construct a roster is doing so, I just watch and learn.

  12. There are still 6 open scholarships. But yes, still need rebounding, rim protection and someone to organize the offense. Forget the 1-2-3-4-5 designations. With 5 out you play ball.

  14. Per 2022 Census info not only is it not top 10, the median income for 63034 ($116k) is over $70,000 less than the 10th ranked zip code in the state - 63127, aka Sunset Hills at $185k. https://www.incomebyzipcode.com/missouri And no, I don't know why I cared enough to look into this.

  16. while if anyone was made for hero ball it was sincere parker. that said, hero ball and schertz 5 out do not mix. one or the other had to go likely is my thought. good luck to parker. i am betting at mcneese he will be a star. good for him.

  17. State champ twice, state finals all four years, undefeated final season...as a freshman he scored eight points to start a game-ending 16-0 run , resulting in a 2-point victory and state title...that's a winner.

  20. Love that - was fortunate enough to see both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam in the 90s, but I would have killed to have seen the Trees. Mother Love Bone and Temple of the Dog would have also been fantastic, but I guess I saw Cornell, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron with their primary bands. We won’t see another era like the grunge alt+rock era of the 90s ever again. Even in the Midwest, acts like Macomb’s Stabbing Westward and Detroit’s Sponge were hugely successful. Loved the band Stir from STL and Brother Cane out of Birmingham.

  21. No we don’t. Mitchell, McCall, and Jett were all combo guards and we were just fine back then. We will be fine now running the 5 out system.

  22. Swope played on one leg the second half of season. Was averaging 20 ppg before he got hurt. Pikaar has great range and passing ability. Not strong enough yet to guard an A10 post player. Good rim protector. McCo - combo guard. Needs to work on his defense and his motor. Has NBA potential. Jimerson, Avila and Swope all left $$ on the table by coming to SLU. Working hand in hand with Chris May on NIL issues. 2 recruits on campus today, 1 more tomorrow, and 2 more Thurs through Sat. Both transfers and HS in these groups.

  25. Trent Greene is his uncle. Half his adult male family members played football at IU. He is one of the best jump shooters in college basketball. Goode would be great in a Billiken uniform, but my money is on him ending up at IU.

  26. So we have three starters: Gibby, Cream and Swope Then: Hughes, Thames, Pikaar, and McCottry. Am I missing anyone? So, 6 scholarships left. Looks like we need a 4 (replacing Kent) and a PG (Julian Larry). We need the 4 to be a big time rebounder and a rim protector would be a nice bonus. When I watched them, Kent seemed very valuable tracking down missed 3s and then kicking it back out for more 3 attempts. Hopefully we're landing some other quality transfers soon now that the roster is taking shape with the additions of Avilla and Swope. One thing Schertz should be able to sell recruits is his ability to develop players. Look at the improvement from Larry and Kent this last season over the prior year.

  28. Swope and Jimmer with Larry and Thames behind them is a winning collection of scoring 2/3 guards that should do well in the A10. Avila and I guess Pikaar at the 4/5 with depth needing to come. But where is the PG...this car needs a driver. I wish Medley would have hung around. I know the thinking is now we can do better, hopefully that is true. Either way this is a big get and Coach is off to a nice start.

  29. Adding Swope would be like adding a Khalil Brantley or Rahsool Diggins. Rated just ahead of Chad Venning, kyle Rose, Cam Brown . And right behind Joe Bamisile. This would have given us 3 in the t35. Solid start but still away to go to feel really good about that being a difference. 4 teams this year had 3+ in the t35 player ranking.

  32. Let’s not overlook Gibby coming home. Basically we got two of the top 50 guys in the portal. I don’t know where Swope stands in the rankings. Of course he hasn’t committed anywhere yet. But if he chooses SLU and Turnbull commits, we have mined the portal successfully.

  33. Robbie is an exponentially bigger deal than Goodwin or Gordon. Neither of them held nationally streamed commitment announcement live streams. Robbie was a top 10 transfer in the nation and he's more marketable and recognizable than maybe any of those guys ahead of him. Don't undersell this.

  34. That is the more valid point. Just how many really good P5 teams are going to want to play us, home or away? The answer is none, they don’t need to schedule a team like us (they all saw what Shertz’s team did last year, after all). A neutral sight game like this, with the extra TV money thrown in, is one of our few chances at a really good non-conference opponent. Travis Ford, for all his faults as a coach, was able to get teams like Auburn to play us in a home and away series with his lifetime of connections in D1 coaching. Josh Schertz, with his time in Indiana State and D3, doesn’t have those same connections. What would be nice is if the St Louis Sports Commission would offer some cash to help get good opponents to come here (either Chaifetz or Enterprise Center) to play some games and draw in fans and attention.
