Yeah, I get the original question. Schertz seems to think it'll work like hockey where you can have inactive guys on any given day. Not sure that that's the right interpretation. If it comes down to just wanting to keep guys as part of the program I could see some student managers essentially serving as a practice squad if that's not disallowed somewhere.
I assume there's nothing stopping a walk on from being a student manager? Is there any rule that wouldn't allow a "manager" to "practice" with the team? Obviously wouldn't be available to play in games, but could be practice bodies.
Schertz said somewhere that if existing redshirts are not grandfathered in then he will rotate active redshirts throughout the year. So two of Jaden, Isaac, and Nick would be active for each game. He said he;s not kicking any redshirts out of the program.
The only point was that he is kind of a "Schertz guy" and I'm not sure his prospects for playing time or NLI money would look better outside of Schertz's system. He could definitely leave, but I would be a little surprised unles he feels like he's getting recruited over.
He didn't sign an NLI, but both Schertz and Pikaar have said that he was going to ISU to play for Schertz and then decided to follow to SLU. Not sure if it was a Post Dispatch article or on Twitter.
