  2. As much as I hate the waiting game, I think it’s bad juju to openly root against a team just so we could potentially get a coach faster (not to mention potentially get some of the same players too)…

  3. https://sycamorepride.com/threads/lebro-hcjs-the-decision-saint-louis-or-run-it-back.45870/page-50#post-377859 Open message to Sycamore fans...... I am still rooting for the Sycamores tonight. You need to enjoy the ride and appreciate that Schertz will be leaving the program much better than he found it. If it wasn't us, it would be someone else. I expect in a few years we will be experiencing what it is happening to your program right now. Good luck tonight and stay classy.

  4. Walk off win over SIU-E yesterday. DH gave playing time to several bench players and got away with it. SLU scored a run in the 9th to tie after blowing a lead and, of course Clohisy provided the walk-off hit in the 10th. He even got Hayden Moore to make an appearance as a pinch runner. Next up at St. Joe's this weekend

  5. Billikens.com as crazy as ever. Enjoying the sycamores crushing the P6. Schertz to SLU is already done you guys are crazy. There's been zero talk of him anywhere else, SLU is pursuing noone else. What do you think this is? Indiana state is poor even by Missouri Valley standards. The Louisville spectacle should have put this to bed. Y'all goofy.

  6. Different song same lyrics. Has the computer become lazy? Rather than go through the numbers , is it just spitting out EVENS. So I push the computer for an answer. It comes back and says ....ISU by a 1/16 of a point against UT and a 1/3 of a point against Seton Hall. It then asks ...What part of EVEN do you not understand? The computer did say that if ISU had 20+ FTA against UT the spread would swing in favor of ISU. In this game, the program says if ISU makes its slash (51/39/ 80) and /or wins the reb battle, the spread will swing to the ISU side. For Bills fans, it really doesn't matter...it is D Day...Decision Day. I found myself rooting for ISU. The computer's mantra has been ...nothing happens till ISU loses= nothing happens till the 1st week of April. So I resigned myself to the fact it was going to be a long tourney. It has been fun to watch a good coach with good players beat good teams. Of course , this just makes the NCAA look silly. They said that ISU played a weak schedule. Yet their own computer (NET) had ISU at 29th ITN. Ah, but they knew better. How did that work out? Before Selection Sunday, Schertz said if they made the Dance , it would prove they are a deserving team. If they didn't make the Dance, they would prove they were a deserving team. I guess he showed them BTW, even though the NET is shut down, my computer continues to spin. On selection Sunday , my computer had ISU at 52% chance to Dance. 50% is good enough for a P5 school to make it. An at large non P5 school needs 70%. 70% is the new 50% for non P5 schools who don't have an auto bid. Today ISU reached 72% ...in other words, the NCAA would select them today. It ain't easy being a mid major.

  8. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2024/04/02/indiana-state-into-nit-final-as-coach-josh-schertz-considers-saint-louis-job-basketball/73178991007/ After NIT, Josh Schertz to Saint Louis. Right? Nobody was asking Josh Schertz after this game about the Saint Louis Billikens. No idea what a Billiken is, but I’m calling it an elephant — you know, the one nobody’s talking about. Schertz or his agent — a distinction that matters more to Schertz and his agent than it should to you and me — has been in talks with Saint Louis about its coaching vacancy since shortly after Indiana State’s loss to Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament March 10. That was almost a month ago, and I'm told Schertz has indicated to Saint Louis he’s coming. It’s an open secret in the Sycamores’ locker room that four of their five starters would most likely follow him to Saint Louis. The one player not going? Julian Larry. After his news conference I followed Schertz into the hall to ask him privately about Saint Louis, and don’t even think about getting mad at me for that. You want to get mad? Get mad at the coach who’s halfway out the door — not the reporter who asked him about it. My advice: Don’t get mad at anyone. Saint Louis would more than quadruple Schertz’s salary, from less than $500,000 to $2 million or more, and how can you get mad at him for that? Meantime, he hasn’t left yet, didn’t abandon his team. He’s still coaching the Sycamores, and deflecting questions about Saint Louis. Here’s what he told me late Tuesday night. “I never, ever talk about a job other than the one I have,” he said, “but I know that’s on everybody’s mind. The reality is, I’m going to take a day when the season’s over, make a decision, and everybody we’ve communicated with knows that’s kind of the plan of it. I know everybody’s speculating, but at the end of the day we’ll finish the season and obviously play to Thursday — which I’m looking forward to — and then take a day. I don’t want to make an emotional decision. I’m going to take a day and lock in on what I want to do and then decide what’s best.” Coaches everywhere, print that out. Because that’s how you handle a situation as delicate as this. Schertz made no promises and told no lies, and said nothing to alienate either school.

  9. It’s gonna be an absolute coup when we land this guy. This NIT run has solidified that they were a tournament team, and a ton of bigger programs would be all over Schertz if he wasn’t a lock for us. Someone get Pitbull’s representatives on the phone and let’s line up a celebratory performance at the introductory press conference… we already forked over 10 mil to get rid of Ford, what’s another 500k?

  13. There are certain local sports media figures - like Frank and Slaten - who want SLU to be run in as small a way as possible. They're the ones who push for SLU to move to the Valley, to hire people they know, and to recruit exclusively regional players. They want easy access to the program, they want influence, and they want it shaped by a small fraternity of like-minded locals who don't think beyond their pocket of the Midwest. They're obsessed with petty high school-level relationships and are stuck in the past. They either complain about or refuse to acknowledge the way the sport exists today. They're small-time people and they want the program to reflect their small-time nature. They are not to be taken seriously. We aspire to national competitiveness, the Big East, deep Tournament runs.

Schenk Schenck...Captain because he has an extra C Shirts...he is the clean player Shirtz...he is the dirty one Shotz....As a beer baron...he could not only play but sponsor the BVF...if you are puzzled by this choice ...ask Laverne or Shirley. And coming off the bench Schertz...our secret weapon...the one no one has heard of.

  21. Wait what?! Who had expectations for him bringing in these great players? He was brought in because we were not winning in the portal and he had overseas connections the current staff did not. Did we think Kuany Kuany was a possibility, sure. But I think the hope was that he would bring a different mindset to the staff and program. But he is an assistant who was here for 9 months.

  24. Frank & Slaten have the same dumb ideas that Pistol outlined. Their personalities are not at all the same. Frank tries to come off as a nice guy. Slaten is a blowhard who tries to come off as a tough guy. Their personalities are largely irrelevant to this conversation on their bad ideas for SLU basketball.

  25. Field looks great right now. Still it should’ve been turfed. Watched SLUH v Chaminade yesterday and it’s incredible how a local high school program literally blows a top D1 baseball programs facilities out of the water. I don’t care if Chris May is AD and Steve Kerr is hired as the new mbb coach. Guy is a total moron. Program deserves much better.

  26. If you’re as worried as you say you are about it collapsing because of May, I’d probably ya know hold back on him. ISU is going to lose Schertz because of AD/University dysfunction. I’d prefer to deal with the necessary evil. But that’s just me.

  29. Save it. You've repeatedly trashed the guy and called for his firing. When someone listed the success the athletic program has enjoyed under May you were the one who said May was a douchbag and could not be judged by anything but the Ford buyout and the buyout set us back forever and May should be fired for it. Turns out the buyout was a moot point. The guy who agreed to the extension came in and paid it, paid the new coach and funded the money to bring his players. If May pulls this off you haters need to stfu for a while.

  34. The Bens certainly drift into Mizzou fanboy territory quite often - guys like them and Frank on radio share opinions... they are not going to cover a team the way a journalist is supposed to. They perform different roles.

  36. One problem with Frank is that folks know about him or know him away from the radio/tv and his behavior is not in line with some of his commentary. The other issue I have is that he tends to overplay what he knows. Ultimately, who cares I suppose, I will take him talking about SLU with excitement even if it is essentially as a mouthpiece for the program (gotta keep those sources haha).

  37. I don't get the dislike for Frank. He gives the Billikens more coverage than all of the other stations combined. He is a fan. If it's style thats one thing but coverage and boasting thats another.

  44. One of the best things about St. Louis is the colloquial use of the term "Hoosier" in place of red neck or hick. Just hilarious and when I went to SLU, I adopted its usage Usage in a sentence: "These hoosiers are slowing the TSA line down." Variations when referring to multiple hoosiers: [While at 6 Flags] "Look at those hoose-wads." So it really makes me laugh the usage during that NIT interview. Also love The Mad Hoosier from former St. Louis public access television, "World Wide Magazine". You can find them on YouTube fyi.

  46. Other than his fantastic wife, I've never understood the fascination with Andy Enfield. The jump to SMU seems like him bolting before USC closed the door. He's a classic example of kind of a one-hit wonder - wins a couple of games in the Tourney and all of the sudden is the flavor of the month for P6 jobs.

  47. not sure i understand the over the top love for harriman. yes he brought a couple of nice players to slu when rickma was the coach. after that he went to a couple of other schools and failed miserably. he came back here this year and i am sure expectations were such he would bring us top foreign players. how'd that work out? i talked to him in myrtle beach. he seems to be a very nice man. and my conversation didnt appear to be forced or patronizing on his part. but i just dont see the accomplishments that coach schertz would feel the need to have to have him on the staff. if he did want him, fine. other than tate, i really didnt have anyone i'd rather have. and even tate, if coach schertz didnt find him as a good fit to his picture for his staff so be it. move along.
