  1. I met thicks early in the billikens.com lifetime before a game at the old Savvis. I found out later it was his first game in person to watch our Billikens. I was surprised when I met him at how reserved he was in person but I came to realize that he was always pretty much in control of his emotions and passion. What we got on the board was exactly what Mr Hicks was in person. "Thicks" was the perfect choice for Steve to "hire" as our board monitor and he took the duty serious. Many (including myself) initially didn't like his seriousness doing the job. But in hindsight, I am not sure any of the rest of us had the demeanor he did to do what he did, let alone taking all the personal written shots from anonomous hacks since all of us are hiding behind a moniker and typing words that many times were/are quite venemous. Without his early actions on our community messageboard with his guideance and rule, who knows what this board might have evolved. I am always amazed when I peek at other messageboards how usually, their discourse is much worse as compared to billikens.com. We truly are a family of mbm's that are special and I think we owe a lot of what billikens.com became to Terrence. When he got the opportunity to move out of the St Louis area for a better job, I was happy for Terrence but I had come to love and greatly appreciate his passion for the board and the professional way he handled his assigned tasks for monitoring billikens.com. I feared the tone of the board might actually change for the worse. As is the case of when many of our friends and relatives pass on, I wish I had taken the time to get to know him personally better. Obviously that ship has now sailed and I regret never taken the small effort to get to know him better in person. He was a good person and will be missed not only by our little community but also his circle of personal friends and relatives. Thanks "thicks" for all you did for our little sandbox of all things Billikens. May you rest in peace. So Mote It Be. Roy Mueller aka billiken_roy

  3. I got to know THicks going to the monthly Billiken Club meetings at Humphreys. Cordial, knowledgeable, a gentleman. i thought he monitored the Board with an even hand, especially during turbulent times. I always chuckled when he would correct a poster’s grammar. Stickler for details. Even during the most heated back and forths, he would comment on an incorrect there/their. RIP THicks, you were a good man

  8. Terrance was easy to spot at Billikens functions. He almost always wore the old Billikens.com shirt to preseason practices and the like. I was fortunate enough to know him a great deal. We sat together at many functions over the years. A billikens fan through and through but he was also a deeply spiritual man and if he wasn't at Kiel or chaifetz he was usually at his church. We connected both being from North County. He lived in Berkeley mostly and I lived a short distance away in Ferguson. We met up at several HS games to scout future Billikens from the Romar days till the Crews era. As a moderator he made Billikens.com stronger. He didn't make personal decisions, he did what was best for the board. I believe his moderation has allowed this board to grow and maintain its strength and quality while so many others across the college basketball landscape fell off. My only regret is I lost touch with the man over the years but it appears he found love and stability in his life away from St. Louis. A true Billikens fans if there ever was one. RIP brother, I will see you on the other side in Billikens Blue.

  10. A nice win . The computer comes through as we finish within 6 seconds of the actual spread. We did what we were supposed to do. We played Bills ball. This was a high scoring game. Not in general basketball terms but in Dav basketball this was high scoring. Dav was gassed ...which is why they shot poorly at the end. Their season slash line grades were C/ D- / B...this game F/ F/ F-...good defense....Bills gave up only 5 pts in the final minutes of the game. What a difference from earlier this year. Let's look at what happened...Bolded statements from original post... Make the slash...46/35/75 ...actual 53/40/77 ...This was important...an extra 3 and 2 extra 2s for 7 extra pts which we would need to offset some other areas... play like we have been trending recently...we did ...our shooting has been good. Match them on TOs ...You will note , I didn't mention a number here because Dav is pretty good at protecting the ball and we are not good at forcing TOs...we had a decent total of 11...but they had only 4...a deficit of 7...and that is why this game was close. The computer had us as the better team but this was an area of concern...an area that would keep us from breaking it open. score at least 8 fast break pts....we did...9pts...this was a marker which showed we were doing what we were supposed to be doing. Don't give them free pts by fouling Loyer or Skogman. .... while Loyer did go 100% (5-5) Skogman had no FTAs...The team as a whole shot 59%...42% sans Loyer....so overall this worked out. Hold their top 3 scorers (Mennega and 2 of their top 3 guards) to a combined 34pts...this was a miss but worked out because of our good shooting (see slash above)... our slash was an exceed...good shooting can fill a lot of holes. Beat them on the boards by double digits...by 6 rebs...fell a little short here due to 7 fouls on Okoro and Forrester... they probably had to ease up a bit...but again no worry...read slash statement again. keep them under 70 pts...70 pts was the final...close enough...how important was it to stay at 70 pts...again , we gave up 5 pts in the final 5 min...excellent D Bottom line....Play the 1st minute like the last minute in a tied game..... it was tied near the end...in hindsight the only thing I would change in that statement would be to add 7 after 1st and last. The idea was good though ...the Bills stretched it out which was even better ...start and finish with intensity...the sign of a winning team.

  12. You have to remember that folks in Carolina consider Duke a Yankee school. Everyone on Tobacco Road hates Duke. I have a close friend that graduated with Packer at Wake in 62. He knew him and said he was nice guy. Keynote speaker at Wake's Class of 62 50th class reunion. My friend said he very entertaining and funny speaker. Also, he played on Wake's 62 Final 4 NCAA team.

  14. This is very sad. Thicks has been with us since David's mid-1990's Rivals board. He was always was objective and totally in control. Kept the board in perspective. Recall him jumping on me over my grammar. Made the perfect moderator. RIP Thicks. You presents here will be deeply missed.

  15. That game was going to be trouble with no Pickett. They have size. Same issue we are going to have with Dayton. If we aren’t shooting well size is going to hurt us.

  17. I watched replay of that bad stretch at end of 1st half after Collins goes out of game at 5:46 remaining. It was easier to watch today, knowing the final outcome. But offense without Collins didn't seem "helpless" - they found good open shots or had the ball in good position inside - they just missed the shots - and Forrester traveled twice plus Jimerson fumbling a pass were not because the offense was disfunctional, just fixable glitches by the player getting sped up. Anyhow for short stretches when Collins goes out I think this second unit will keep making progress and can play well.

  19. Our shooting percentages are creeping up to where we thought they would be which is a great thing. Now if we could just force more turnovers we would be in business. Great win tonight. Win at Fordham and let’s get chaifetz rocking next week.

  30. I have written about this in numerous threads since the NET was developed. It is a relatively inefficient model that was developed to assist with team selection for March Madness. It is a full data model. This means it can only operate correctly when it has a full set of data (in March). In December, when it comes out, it is a joke. Two coin tosses in December that both come up tails and the NET would say 100% chance for a tails toss in March. Even though in Dec, it varies widely from my model (as well as others ) it finally starts to come together in March at about 80-85%. Unfortunately , SLU is a frequent flyer in that 15-20%(10-20 teams) zone almost every year. This is exactly what the NCAA wants. A model that is somewhat in the ballpark so the NCAA can come in and fix things ...er uh....i.e correct the AI inefficiency with the all seeing and understanding human intelligence and touch. I would say the NCAA is happy right now with the way things are working out. Well, what about the December inefficiency ? ...what about making Colgate a top 10 team? What about what the fans think? The NCAA thinks it is all good for fan interest and that in March it will in its wisdom always make things right.
