  1. I believe he changed his name to Damari Bayer.

  2. I'm confused. This team didn't make the tournament and (I'm assuming) is losing 30+ Goodwin minutes at guard. We can't find PT for Nesbitt? Wouldn't he immediately be 1B to Perkins?

  3. Awesome all around player. Good enough handles to be a 6'6 pg, good enough underneath to play the 4 in the A10. He's similar to Goodwin, especially his motor. Doesn't rebound as well but is still great. Shoots and scores better than Goodwin. He is a potential early NBA entrant, he was underranked in his class, more top 30 than top 60.

  4. I would also like to see 2 freshman. With all the transfers out there good freshman could be ignored.

  5. Some posters down on this piclup. I'm very bullish. This guy is a scorer. He has Jimmerson's release, maybe more range with an Isabel mentality. He's not just a 3 point shooter. He has really good handles and can break his defender down. If he can fit into the team he will be a tremendous pickup. 6th man of the the year? Newcomer of the year talent possibly. Arguing over whether he gets 10-15 minutes a game, I think this guy starts and is minimum our 3rd leading scorer.

  6. Writers for recruiting sites aren’t always the most objective sources. The have an incentive to always paint things in the best light for the program.

  7. This is just me reading between the lines and drawing my own conclusions, so there’s a more than reasonable chance that I’ll end up being totally wrong, but this sounds a lot like Penny telling Nesbitt he was gonna be a 1-and-done. Nesbitt comes to campus early to get a head start. Penny’s not expecting that, and Nesbitt only plays 12 minutes. Now Nesbitt is thinking, “6 months ago, you told me I was good enough to be a 1-and-done, which is the main reason I chose Memphis, and now you can only find 12 minutes for me on an NIT team? WTF?” It’s sounds to me like a classic case of a kid having unrealistic expectations and a coach feeding those unrealistic expectations in order to get a commitment. And now the kid ends up getting screwed over. It’s sad.

  8. I thought French was out of shape/heavy this year and it hurt his development. I gave kudos to Bell for coming from 400lbs to 290, but I think he's gained weight and never was in close to game shape. Bell needs to be at 260 if he truly wants to be effective.

  9. I think so. There are a lot of intriguing guard options out there who can score and do different things than Williams or Collins or Perkins, but none with his combination of size and skill. There's nothing to be gleaned from that. When he showed up on campus, Penny told the press he hadn't been counting on him this year and wasn't sure whether he'd play much, but said it benefitted everyone to get him there, taking classes, and practicing with the team. Nesbitt was a 4-star top-60 recruit. He's the only 2021 player SLU went all in on.

  13. Ford has shown he will go 8 to 10 deep. He has stated that on the radio, and his history here and at OKState back that up. I look at mpg, and then glance at games played, when looking at these metrics. Last season we had 9 playing double digit minutes, with Bell playing in 19 games at 8.8 mpg. So I'll count Bell and we went 10 deep. If you look at the upcoming roster, pick your 10. If you are an incoming player, where do you fit into the rotation. Randomly listing rotation for next season, Perkins, Okoro, Linssen, Thatch, Jimerson, Collins, Bell, Williams, Hargrove....that's 9 already. For certain we need a second PG in this rotation, be it Russell or a new player, so that is 10. (Maybe Has will come back if promised he can be Collins backup!) Yes, Strickland and Lorentsson aren't on this list. So where does anyone else fit? Unless another Billiken jumps into the portal, there will be long faces on the bench. If a HS athlete is comfortable 'developing' for a year, bring him in. But certainly have that conversation with him and his parents now, not after he gets several DNP in a row.

  15. i am starting to wonder because there are so many (with quality) transfers out there, that programs will be ignoring the high school availables and we could score bigger than normal looking to go young. just seems to me since we really arent desparate for immediate new contribution players (particularly if The Torch's belief of rashad is correct and if Okoro is the real deal as many of us believe) why not look for that developing high schooler that can become special? what am i missing?

  17. Could be. I don't have any inside info nor am I saying there is a problem. Simply saying that's the way I interpret that article. it reads to me like he saying the player did something wrong. I'm not saying or insinuating he did. I have no idea. It's why I asked if he was a Memphis reporter. If he was he may be trying to make Memphis out to look like it's all on the player and not Memphis.

  19. Here is my take on Williams.... First, let's look at some numbers.... 2021....these are all per gm...13.6pts....0.9 assts....0.8stls....1.5 TOs...1.5 reb Now let's look at some slashes....numbers and grades Remember the important numbers are the 3s as over 3/4 of his shots are 3s 2021.....34.5/33.9/78.7....F-/ C+ / A....28 gm...28min/gm 2020...34.3/ 32.3/ 85.5...F- /C- / A+...15 gm...38 min/gm 2019...40.5 / 40.8 / 76.7....F- / A / B+...31 gm...23 min/gm Now let's look at the 4 most significant games of 2021 for Oakland and Williams part in them... Mich 25th AP poll (at the time)....20/13/100....2-10/ 1-8 / 4-4....24 min...9 pts Purdue...1 min...no stats OK St...46/ 50 /40....10-22/ 10-20 / 2-5....37 min...32pts Mich St 4th AP poll...43/47/ 80....12-28/8-17/ 4-5....36 min....36 pts So what does all this mean? If you take away the OK St game and Mich St. games his 2 best games his 3P% drops to 31.7 or C+ to D. Which means for 26 games he was a below average shooter taking a lot of shots. If we look at the 3 yearly slash lines you see a dramatic drop off in 3P% after his freshman year. Why would that be? I think it is because the 3pt line was pushed back between his freshman and soph years. A lot of players saw there % drop...some have recovered... some have not. If we leave the 2 good games in ... his stats improve from C- to C+ ...Soph to Jr year...If I plug in a forecast for the coming year...it shows he improves to 35.1%...but that is a far cry from 40 % plus and it is an IF he improves...As I said above, some players can't make the extra distance adjustment. It is promising, he has had some games in the 40 and 50 percents. If he can develop a consistent shot this year, he could be a major contributor. Will he do it? That's why we play the games.

  21. There's a reason that Memphis's second and third leading scorers and his top guard recruit are getting the hell out of there. I don't think playing for Penny is all it's cracked up to be.

  23. Correct, and both have announced they'll play for MOKAN Elite again this year. (Although they really didn't have an AAU season last year.) This is still a strong BBE squad. Brandon Miller is an incredible talent on the wing. Martin is Collins-style solid at PG. Nick Smith is a really dynamic guard. Jeremy Fears is new to the team and playing up a year; he's one of the top PGs in the 2023 class. Kellen Thames can fill it up. Tavion Banks is a KC-area kid playing at Minnesota Prep and I think he's just starting to emerge. The exciting thing about AAU coming back (I assume) is that a lot of these guys have a chance to make a name for themselves. Smith, Miller, and a few others are well known. But this is a chance for guys like Stacker, Thames, Martin, Kramer, Jones, Lewis, and Turnbull to get more exposure.

  25. Clearly your mind has gone bad. My baseball consists of the Guinness World Record games we play and I'm clearly the worst player. I've only cleared the Mendoza line once or twice. I had a guy donating for one that said he'd donate $5 for every XBH I had. No check would have been required. I talked him into $5 per hit and he still laughed at how little it cost him lol.

  26. @WV ---- peace, man. Not trying to argue with you. Many folks smarter than I have observed that the college game is a guard's game. To that end, few teams have athletic, studly big men and if they do, they usually reside in P5 conferences and not at the A10 level. Outside of Mitchell, I am hard pressed to find another 'complete' big man residing in the A10. Davidson is Euro-soft. Dayton had none. Michael Hughes, Hasan Ward and AJ Wilson were prowling for blocks and not complete players. Josh Oduro is/was soft. Fordham, La Salle, St. Joe's, Geedubya and Richmond did not have any (maybe Cato at Richmond). Rhode Island needs development. You get one big in this league and you can run the table. Just look at Obi-Wan and Dayton two years back. I believe with the three open scholarships, I'd want a PG apparent for Yuri, a combo-guard shooter and, in the proverbial NFL jargon, the best athlete available. Junior year is usually the year most guys start to peak, becoming true upperclassmen and leading the way. We have Bell, Collins, Hargrove, Thatch and Jimerson standing in the wings. Okoro will be somewhat of an unknown, a wild card coming in. Linssen is dependable. Strickland and Lorentsson are sophs to be. They have time. Jimmy Bell has to b emore than a stationary object on the court. He can't start each half with the Grandy contributions --- 4 minutes and gone. Collins needs to learn to shoot -- maybe he takes over the team now that Goodwin is gone. Ditto Thatch. Hargrove can longer be giuven the excuse that he's young or had a poor basektball upbringing. Jimerson has to take more shots and make more shots. As I look at the roster in comparison to the rest of the A10, I think we are stacked. The pieces needed are for fine tuning and tweaking. It's time for Bell and Okoro to dominate the paint and for our stable of guards to run the perimeter. I'd still like to see some youth injected onto the roster and not get three grad transfers but that seems to be the new world normal. Not vehemently arguing with you.

  28. Yes, he did have a shoulder injury but improved. He also had back to back 30 pt games against Mich State and OK State when his shoulder improved according to Pistol. Also according to Pistol, he can create his own shot. I think he is likely to be a good addition to the Bills. Welcome to the Bills Rashad Williams.

  29. i will be shocked if Liddell leaves. if he was 3 inches taller, fine, he'd be a prototypical power forward then but at 6'7" i think he has to show a little more outside the lane skills to be able to stick. i say he is just getting that advice of what he has to do.

  30. Agree, all Stu had to do was google it and did not have to clarify with SLU. Even an older guy like me found it in less than 5 minutes and it clearly states that seniors do not count against the 13 scholarships meaning had all 3 seniors stayed SLU could have 16 scholarship players. I am still glad someone covers SLU but most on this board understood the senior rule and Stu did not and strangely had to get clarification from SLU.

  31. I'm surprised Horne hadn't entered the portal weeks ago. Illinois State is a dumpster fire. Other than get to the line, he does everything you want a combo guard to do. He shoots it very well from 3, shoots it well from 2, shoots it very well from the line and can be your secondary playmaker.

  33. Hard to believe but Yuri will be a JR so getting his heir apparent to push him and be his back up (Yuri has been injured both years), learn the position and allow Yuri to catch his breath is not a bad idea. Without JGood or Jacobs, we will need a PG to lead the team at least 10 minutes per game. Same with Bell who will be a JR and Linssen who will be a SR?

  36. and if he only shot 3 pt shots it's equal to 50% from 2. A guard shooting 50% from 2 is pretty good. Plus didn't I read somewhere he had an injury? Maybe shoulder?

  37. The thinking is if he doesn't have to create his own shot all the time like he did at Oakland, the shooting percentage goes up a few points. Edit: Or what wgstl said.

  38. I am not an expert on this kid by any means but why is having a high 3pt attempt if you only shoot 33% a good thing? I am not knocking the signing but does this team need another 31-33% 3pt shooter?

  40. I also wish Demarius the best of luck. I hope he finds a school where he can get enough minutes to get past his inconsistency issues. With regard to the idea that Ford mismanaged him, this lazy narrative is used by fans in all sports. I see it with the Cardinals and the Blues as well. When someone with potential comes up, fans remember the highlights, but never the struggles. Then when the player leaves, the coaches get blamed for mismanaging the player. The reality is that Demarius got the opportunities he deserved to earn more playing time. So did Hargrove. So did Thatch. So did Jimmerson. So did Perkins after struggling in the first half of last season. Perkins earned his time and turned into a star. Demarius just didn't do enough to warrant more time than he was getting. If Thatch or Hargrove were transferring instead of Demarius, people would be complaining that they should have been given more of a chance and gotten some of Demarius's minutes. If after this season, you gave me a list of Jimerson, Hargrove, Thatch, and Jacobs and said which of these players would you be most upset about if they left, I would have ranked Jacobs last. Like I said, I hope he finds success elsewhere, but I'm excited about Ford finding someone else to take this open spot.
