  1. Honestly, he was one of the few enjoyable reasons to watch the last few games.

  2. Apologies if this has been brought up in another thread, but SLU really needs to do it's senior night activities before the game next Tuesday. A few reasons: - It's an 8'oclock start which means there is plenty of time to do it before the game. And it's kind of late for most Billiken fans after the game. Even in the best of times, I don't want my kids out till 10:30 or later. - We are playing Dayton and will almost certainly lose and probably get blown out. After the game is never fun when you lose and if it's like last night, 2/3 of the fans that show up will have already left. It's a safe bet that there will be more Dayton fans in Chaifetz at the end of the game than Billiken ones. - As angry as we all are with the coaching, players such as T.J., Gibson, etc. deserve a good send-off.

  3. Given our lack of halftime adjustments in the past 3 seasons, maybe halftime is the best time to do it.

  5. Well, I had heard of Galesburg IL if that means anything. 19-8 sounds like a pretty decent team, D3 notwithstanding. I too am happy for the women to get their Senior Night and I'm happy for another game to go to.

  6. Being an FBS independent not named Notre Dame has no way of working the way things are changing. UMass had to chose between 3 options: 1.) - join an FBS conference. 2.) - go down to FCS in football. 3.) - just kill the football program. They chose option 1. The MAC was the best choice they had right now. Whatever the effect the decision they made about football had on the basketball program was irrelevant, the basketball program needs to just roll with it and do the best it can wherever they ended up.

  7. A position dedicated solely to evaluate active D1 talent with portal eligibility strikes me as a valid and valuable job given today’s landscape of free agency. The pros employ scouting departments to evaluate college and free agent talent, and I’ll wager top schools have folks whose sole job is scouting the ranks of likely portal entrees. Is there anybody on our current staff whose primary job is scouting potential portal targets?

  8. What a bunch of stupidity. The MAC f%&$ing sucks a$$. It's a horrible conference. Horizon league. Worse than MVC. UMass went there because they need to be able to schedule for their football team. The MAC was only willing to take them if they could sponge off of UMass in other sports like basketball and so on. The A10 is lightyears ahead of the MAC in everything except playing bad, nationally-irrelevant football(UMass is a perfect fit here.) They wanted to keep playing football. The price was having to join the MAC. simple as that.

  9. Hey detective remember when TheOne posted complete and utter bullsh*t about Dandridge and the washout from Army coming to play here? Forgot about that one? He/She is hardly infallible. If he/she is who we think he/she is he's only telling us what his dad tells him. I'm just sharing what I've heard. When I have a conversation with a prominent booster, like I did this week, and he opens up the conversation with "Next year when Ahearn is the coach," it alarms me. Add in to that a lot of internet chatter and rumors going around, with area sports media guys touting him and I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. It alarms me because an Ahearn hire, while maybe not being terrible, is not the best we can do by far. He should be 10th on the list, not a top candidate. We've definitely contacted Ahearn at this point? Have we contacted other available coaches like Mack or Holtmann who are better candidates by far? Detective you typically only post in response to me. Why don't you contribute something worthwhile to the discussion once in a while and prove you actually are an actual fan of the program and not just a troll.

  10. -try to imagine what it's like for this kid, what he is 18? 19? 20?, in a foreign country having to undergo surgery and rehab, yes I know he made the decision to play ball in America but this isn't the best hand to be dealt, nor the worst -wishing you all the best, Djordje

  12. A few players, including Davion Bradford, have already hit the portal, but transfer season will crank up soon as teams get eliminated from conference tournaments. New this year, players will only have 45 days to enter the portal from the moment the regular season ends, which is March 17, as opposed to the 60 day window of the past. Players will have until May 1 to enter their name in the portal.

  13. I expect to see a lot of the bench players getting a lot of minutes. The top players? Some minutes to exercise them. Knox probably will play like it’s their postseason tournament, which it is.

  17. I was kidding about a rec team, but if they're playing a game tomorrow, that's the only thing it could mean. They've had their Senior Night. When they got beat by GW. And GW is awful so they had to have been really short-handed.

  19. By the way, I have to hand it to this league. It has really gotten stronger this season. The top 4 teams are all 14-3 or better and 3 of them have 25 overall wins on the season (the fourth has 23). Unfortunately, they're all in the 55-70 range in the NET rankings currently, so getting multiple bids is an uphill climb, but they should stack the NIT, with Davidson (82) and Rhode Island (86) also having a shot to play in the postseason. SLU has to win the conference tournament again. The crazy thing is that URI and SLU were supposed to be top-3 teams in the league. I don't think anyone realized how much better the whole top ten would be, though.

  20. It's always a tough call. I read something a few years ago that about 55% of schools do it pre-game but that number has been getting smaller each year. Billiken fans definitely arrive late (gametime) and many leave early so it's gonna be empty if you do it pre-game even if you advertise it (START NOW!). It's a late start against a good team and it's never fun coming off a loss especially one with the potential to be a big loss (although i think we hang in there for a while next week). It's going to be empty if you do it after. Not sure there's a great solution here but might be kind of interesting if Travis Ford gets the mic after the game for likely the last time.

  25. https://slubillikens.com/news/2024/2/29/womens-soccer-adds-10-players-to-2024-roster.aspx There were no surprises in the announcement. They have all been discussed here. There were 2 additional mid-semester incoming transfers that were previously announced. Both are on campus and playing Spring ball. And SLU is also expected to add an additional player, to make the roster total 33 for 2024. (SLU has 11 Freshmen commits for the 2025 class) ……..,…….. The additional player expected is Elise Le, a defender at Xavier where she started all 62 games she played the past 3 seasons. A very good, reliable defender, Elise also brings 5’10 size to her left back position. …………. Unlike some of its peers, SLU typically doesn’t have many early enrolled recruits. The trend in recent years is for schools to bring in Freshman a semester early in the Spring to get acclimated. It’s common. SLU prefers to let those players enjoy and finish their high school years and arrive in the Summer. Addy Lang is an exception this Spring. Addy was a highly recruited defensive holding midfielder out of Kansas City. SLU lost both starters to graduation at the position. Addy played Summer ball with Caroline Kelly last year, and she routinely played up an age group, so she’s used to playing with older players. …………… The roster size is typical of where SLU wants the roster to be annually, around 30, a little over, a little under. And that really isn’t much different than a basketball roster based on how many players play at a given time. More successful teams have a 2nd 11 group of players that can play at a similar level to the 1st 11. With injuries, player development, and transfers, this is a typical roster size. …………… Each school has their own recruiting strategy. SLU typically likes to target roughly 100 players in a class or recruiting cycle. Of that 100, they will get serious with about a third of that group. And they will get commitments from roughly a third of that. So, 100/33/11 type of philosophy. SLU has roughly 80 plus recruiting targets from 17 states so far in the 2026 class. ………….. Recruiting rankings have some marketing value, but they are overrated. With that said, re-stating for purposes of full disclosure, I am a consultant with the TDS’ Men’s and Women’s rankings. At the moment, the class is ranked 33rd nationally. But I believe it is better than that. It will likely get into the top 30 or 25. It will take 1 or 2 more deeper NCAA runs for a few more people to come around. But they are getting there. ……………. Remember, SLU has had 5 recent All Americans. And none of them were the highest recruited players nationally. SLU recruited and developed them anyway. And what matters is the year end ranking based on non-conference results, league results, post season results. That’s what matters most. ……………. SLU has recently recruited events in Florida, Texas, Kentucky, St. Louis, Kansas City, Iowa, Illinois, and elsewhere. They will be returning to Florida next week, and they will be in Virginia, Seattle, California, among other places this Spring and Summer. …………….

  28. UT is home to one of the premier Jesuit theological schools on the continent in Regis College; from a doctrinal sense, along with the other 8 Catholic schools in the conference, the U of T would be a welcome addition. I’m just not sure how some of their sports (like baseball) which is played in the fall in Canada, would translate to spring play. Hard to have home games in March or even April up there. It’s been done (see Exhibition Stadium in Toronto and Jarry Park in Montreal), but my hands already feel numb from thinking about getting a fastball off the handle of an aluminum bat. why not pick Carleton, the Duke of the North, while we’re adding on? Bring a natural rivalry to boot.

  29. Agree we have to wait until then to formally hire him but we should have a deal in place with him now so that if they make a run in March, the big boys can't swoop him up

  30. well the deadline might go a couple of weeks later as we have to wait for indiana state's season to be over as well. im all for ford being out 5 minutes after the last billiken game, but we got to wait for the new coach to formally be available after that.
