thunderdan Posted January 9 Posted January 9 May as well just run the zone defense the rest of the year. It really helps hide our defensive deficiencies. There was one play, early in the game, where Anya was at the top of the key and made no effort to stop his man going to the basket. At least, with the zone, you’ve always got help. Quote

billiken_roy Posted January 9 Posted January 9 the zone was effective because it was typically utilized after random breaks in play and more or less surprised them. what is the difference is changing defenses and looks. we do not have to become syracuse. GOSLU68 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The age of the attendees vs those who could not or would not make the effort is a tribute to modern medicine- cures for cancers and new heart procedures for things that were killers 5 years ago. Icy conditions and deep freeze- you would think some okd couple would give SLU the money to build an attached parking garage where the Fred Weber lot is- cutting down on the windy walk over the wooden bridge- drkelsey55, almaman and BrettJollyComedyHour 3 Quote

Which means it was probably weather related, but the team is winning and people are slowly coming back. Yep - good job by SLU filling the upper-deck end seats on both sides. Pretty good student turnout too, considering they're not back in school yet. Not a huge crowd, but lots of energy. Quote

Crewsorlose Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I didn't go yesterday because of a schedule conflict but at least I gave my tickets away. My hunch is that 2-3K of attendance was suppressed due to the weather. A lot can happen in two weeks but if the Billikens are 4-1 the Lasalle game will have a very good crowd. And if they're 6-1 VCU may be close to a sellout. If they win the home games the students will have fun and start making it a routine. Chaifetz sold out or close to sold out is electric. 1/31 vs. Dayton could be a barn burner. Dr. Holly Hills 1 Quote

Go to varsity network, use the on demand link and you can listen to replays of the full broadcasts. It was one of the plays of the game so it’s towards the end. cgeldmacher Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Went to the game last night. Here are some observations: * I thought the attendance was good all things considered (weather and non-conference performance). First time in a while that the crowd was into the game in a way that makes going to Billiken games fun. * Every time Schmidt called a time out, you could tell his staff drew up some offensive set to right the ship and get the momentum back in their favor. Every time we came out in a zone that their called play was unprepared for. You could see the look on Schmidt's face each time it happened and it was like "how did we not anticipate that they were going to do that again" * The chemistry is definitely clicking better on offense and defense than it had in the non-conference schedule. * With the additional chemistry on offense our passing is now off the charts. It's like was have several Yuri's out there looking for passes (obviously not to Yuri's level). Very fun to watch. * Warlick looks like a keeper. He's not overly skilled, but he makes up for it with effort. He did get a little addicted to passing and passed on a few shots he should have taken. * Wondering where Pikaar has disappeared to. Must be something going on in practice or that they feel his defense wasn't there to be able to cover their #24. * When Jimerson is on, he's one of the best players in the country.
