  1. Yeah the psychological aspect of being in the NIT makes it tough to handicap. Can Schertz keep the team focused? If he built the team right they're competitors and when the ball goes up they turn it on. Plus now there's an added incentive show out in games and get paid. Very interesting. I want the coach at SLU but I want a winner here. So win 2 games then pack up the uhaul.
  2. You either have good seats or a good camera. Possibly both.
  3. I'd trade him for an actual sycamore. At least one isn't an oxygen thief
  4. Not me. I wasn't always hard on him but that wasn't me. Anyway whoever it was, they are a bunch of MBMs not the AD. The AD should know better. I think most here commiserate with them, this sucks. But it's not my problem. Not going to stop me from wanting their coach and about 3 players. C'est la vie I do agree that there are often types on message boards and they often act the same way.
  5. Is someone going to hire Drambot away because he made the tournament by winning the auto bid? One trip in 7 years. I don't think so. Anyone melting down years ago was unaware of the college coaching landscape. To include our AD. We need embrace our place as an upper middle class school. If we do well top schools will want our coach. But we have to be real about what doing well is
  6. Why you gotta go and do that? Huh? Man what could've been. I think the job he's done this year at Iowa State has been amazing.
  7. Possibly. Those names you mentioned are more worthy of debate. Wonder where Devries ends up? Drake has a little more pull than ISU but he's probably bouncing. I was wondering why Otzelberger hasn't been mentioned as a candidate for the big openings. It appears his buyout is prohibitive. Now think of this in terms of how much we were paying, this is a dude that just destroyed the #1 team and is a 2 seed. From the AP 12 April 2023 "Otzelberger's annual salary will increase from $2 million to $2.5 million on July 1, $3 million in 2024 and $3.5 million in 2025. He will receive $100,000 increases each of the following years." Extended through 2029
  8. Hey hey hey slowdown. You already got posters coming for you. Don't get Cusamano after you. Don't go on any deep sea fishing trips with friends of Frank, capiche?
  9. Deals aren't with the schools and collectives can't guarantee you'll be eligible or get playing time. Players can be cut. But I'm not a contract lawyer and not sure what stipulations can be put into NIL representation tied to playing a sport in a specific geographic location.
  10. It's just bizarre to me but it does show that they consistently have bad judgement. Why not advocate for another candidate? Brey, Devries, et al? I think I'm done addressing it. Horse has been dead a while. It's a new twist on SLU to MVC argument.
  11. You're the one that told me you don't care. My post was quoting you. So you're pro Ahearn? Or don't care? Wait Wait I decided I don't give a f*ck
  12. I thought you didn't care? Isn't winning random and countless coaches could win or lose at SLU? Really arguing hard for Ahearn for someone that doesn't care.
  13. Yep, plus whatever players he decides to keep, HS/JUCO recruits and other transfers. He could bring a starting 5 and only 2-3 start at SLU because GJ starts and some other transfers. You need depth because as we all know injuries happen.
  14. They should refer him to the Southwest Missouri State University Human Resources Department.
  15. I'm not saying I cared about the AD as a child. Hoosier has stated he doesn't care about the aspects that I think make up the college atmosphere. As a child I went to Auburn football games. The atmosphere surrounding the games was huge. Seeing the Eagle fly and land on the field, my uncle telling me to go to to the cheer leaders and tell them I'm a baby tiger, hearing the band, rolling Toomer's Corner. That's all unique to college sports. Each school has unique traditions. I and many others adult or child, care about it. Now yes as an adult I realize that the atmosphere doesn't just happen. Winning doesn't just happen. I have knowledge of organizational management and leadership. I can't help but notice when it's bad. So yeah that makes me mad if my school's athletics director is feckless. Ignorance is bliss as they say.
  16. I want Billiken Roy to see SLU make it to the Sweet 16. But I want to see it too.
  17. But solely basketball not anything that's surrounds basketball. Wonder if recruiting is random too in Hoosi Nah it's not. When I was 10 I cared about the mascot, the band, the concessions available, the half time show, the cheers. The thing is college fans do have some measure of control. College sports rely on alumni participation and donations. Fan unhappiness effects the school.
  18. Hardcore SLU fans are emotionally invested in their schools' coach. College sports fans usually care about things like the band, the arena, the Baby Blues, traditions, the atmosphere all the things that make American College Sports unique in the world and different from pro sports. Remember watching the Covid season with no atmosphere? People care about the coach's salary because program support was once used as a reason SLU couldn't win. Now we're supported at high levels. So it can't be as excuse. There are not countless coaches that can win at SLU. Some schools win more than others some schools have ongoing traditions of winning. Why is that? Multiple factors that aren't just random. Good decision making, support, location, facilities etc. It's not random. Boosters spending $10mil in buyout is a significant investment. I think they would be smart enough to know that sizeable subsequent NIL funds are needed. The AD matters more today maybe than ever before. NCAA rules are changing weekly, conferences are changing yearly and more big possibly seismic changes are coming. That requires leadership and vision. If the quality of basketball is all that matters then a good coach and effective AD makes quality basketball happen.
  19. Soderberg exemption? Yeah UVA is bad in a down ACC. St. John's turned it on after the famous Pitino "lateral quickness" rant. But if anything goes against some greater narrative about TV audience, media hype the Pitino snub does. He gets a lot of helium and is sitting at home. Gotta give it to him he is entertaining though, his quote about how St. John's could beat UCONN was great. He said they could win, "if all UCONN starters got COVID."
  20. Please enlighten us on how idiots publicly went after boosters?
  21. I heard there's an opening at Ahearn's alma mater SMS seems like a good fit. Also likely to be an opening at another MVC school relatively close ISU.
  22. It's impressive but look at their schedule it takes some of the shine off. But I do think the dude can coach. ESPN Alert SLU in talks with Schertz no deal done. Per Thamel and Borzello
  23. They really are weirdos. I was shocked that tOSU hired the aTm AD. That was crazy. Hoiberg has a team, if they're hot can beat anyone.
  24. I second McMahon's Public House, had some drinks there prior to SLU vs PITT. I spend a little time in Brooklyn the Navy Yard has a nice microbrewery. Fort Greene has some great restaurants. NYU Engineering School is actually in Brooklyn in case you were wondering. Is it next year the tournament is moving to DC?
