  1. Shout-out to the student who participated in the Shot for Cash last night. She was AMAZING.

  2. Tough loss because this was a winnable game. If you will permit me , I would like to take a time out for a short rant. For those who read my posts , you know I am a numbers, stats , probability and data analysis guy. But I would to go a different direction during the rant....a little strategy. From the original post , you may remember I said that one of the keys to the game was St. B's depth. They have 5 starters and that is pretty much it. When Osunniyi ,one of their key players, got into foul trouble, the backup forward Coulibaly came in and played 14 min...He scored 4 pts ..did ok but is no Osunniyi. With 5 min and 8 sec left in the game...Coulibaly fouls out. The Bills at that time were down 55-50. Osunniyi comes back into the game carrying 4 fouls. I remember thinking at that time, we have got them. We need to do whatever it takes to draw that 5th foul on Osunniyi. Why was that important? Because St. B had no one left to put in . Their choice was to put in their last forward Durosinmi who has never scored a pt for St. B or the best remaining guard Adams...a guy who averages 2.6 pts a game with a 36% FT average. Essentially, it would have been a 5 minute power play for the Bills playing 5 on 4. The move I would have made at the 5 min mark would have been to have both Linssen and Okoro playing at the same time. We would either get the 5th foul fast or if Osunniyi backs off we get a lot of points in the paint.....Rant over As for the numbers...this can be summed up with 1 word ...turnovers...during the win streak we have averaged around 10 TOs a game...tonight we had a dismal 18... ..we lose on Pts off TOs 16-6.. There is the game right there ...That doesn't even consider the 7 or 8 shots we didn't take as a result of the TOs. We could talk about the weak 3 pt shooting we had but we beat them at the arc ..29% -23%...we could talk about the poor FT shooting of 7-12...but they shot the same. We out rebounded them by 9 and held them to less than the targeted 70 pts in the original post. The cloak of this loss hangs on the coat rack of turnovers. Bottom line...We lost but are still the better team. They did not beat us....We gave them the game. Or should I say , we turned the game over to them. Want to win the next game...get rid of 7 or 8 TOs. One last thing related to TOs ...The Bonnies average 5 steals per game . Tonight they had 12...that shouldn't happen. Protect the ball. Play Billiken ball on Monday and win.

  3. Y'all got all hopped up on blue Kool aid. This is who we are. You win some you lose some. Bonnie's are good.

  4. I'm still trying to understand how expanding the rotation to Rashad Williams, DeAndre Jones and Markhi Strickland would result in us running opponents out of the building.

  5. I'm sorry but you're wrong. Yuri also. The thought that without Perkins, this is who we are doesn't seem to be a possible answer. If the guys play well, we can win tough games. but when we have a game that not 1 player played above their norm and a few played worse, we will lose. When Perkins went down, I doubt anyone would have had us making the tourney. Heck before he went down very few thought we were a tourney lock. Without him we are a 50-60 ranked team. Capable of beating most teams, but like all teams everyone doesn't play great every game. When numerous players don't we lose.

  6. No. Ford, Jimerson, and the refs. Nobody else has been at fault other than those 3 when we lose this season according to this board

  7. Just one point I have to make. Jimerson got a bad blow to the nose early in the game and was bleeding, apparently a lot because he got an anterior nose pack applied right away. He played with nose pack the whole game and did poorly. I want to make several points. 1. We do not know the extent of his nose injury. Anterior nose packs keep the bleeding from going out of the nose, but the bleeding (presumably not a large amount of bleeding) can pool inside the nasal cavity and go out the back way. He may have been swallowing blood while he played. This would interfere with play. Just FYI, really severe nose trauma with bleeding may require both anterior and posterior packs, the posterior pack requires anesthesia and an ENT for application, it is not applied in situ. If he had required one he would have been out of the game. 2. I am sure he had some and probably significant degree of pain, particularly if there was a fracture involved. 3. I remember Goodwin having a nose injury and playing poorly after surgical repair. He also used a plastic fact/nose protector for a long time that also interfered with his game. The point I am trying to make is that anyone that plays a game with a fresh injury in place does not deserve criticism from "fans." He did the best he could. He is a very good player and deserves our respect for doing what he did last night.

  8. I think Jimerson’s shot was adversely affected by absorbing that elbow and resultant bloody nose, that resulted in 2 puddles of blood on the floor. Jimerson tried to play for a time with cotton in his nostril. The TV analyst from Columbia said it’s hard to play with that in the nostril.

  9. Getting to the line is a big part of our offense. The refs swallowing their whistle changed the entire flow of the game. Despite being hit almost every time we went to the basket, we only went to the line 12 times last night.

  10. To sum this up in one sentence… Good players played bad games.

  11. This game was primarily lost by that 16-0 first half, 8 minute Bona run and SLU lull, after Schmidt switched to the match up zone. A 25-14 SLU lead reversed into a 30-25 Bona lead. That was the most discombobulated Zone Offense during that 8 minute nightmare that I’ve ever seen.

  12. This analyst, former Columbia player, is awful. The refs are pathetic, should be wearing brown uniforms. There were multiple uncalled shooting fouls on Bona in the last sequence. “Referees s***” chant was just audible. So I am not alone there. in the words of Rick Majerus, “We need to get the hell out of this conference.” Except we have nowhere else to go.

  16. Dwayne Evans was just named B1 player of the week for the 2nd time this season. In 3 victories he tallied games of 15/8, 24/14, and 23/9. B1 league has now entered their mid season break and will resume play again in March. Evans season averages are 17/8/3 with a steal while shooting .566/.400/.769. His team, Ryukyu Kings, currently have the best record in the league at 27-3 and have a 17 game winning streak. Evans is the leading scorer, 2nd in rebounding, 2nd in assists, 2nd in steals, and 3rd in blocks. Here are some highlight videos from this past week and an interview with Dwayne and teammte Jack Cooley, a center who played at Notre Dame.

  17. We don't run a single play for Nesbitt and Hargrove is the new Jimerson ... go stand in the corner until a shot comes your way. I thought all in all, Collins failed last night. Sure he scored. Mostly at hero ball time. Sure he assisted. But he was -1 in assist-to-turnovers. And he never had a clue how to attack the match up zone. And that's the part that's on the former point guard from Kentucky.

  18. I don't know that Joe is a troll, not for me to say. But some of the points shoudl be noted and well taken. We looked like we had never seen a zone before EVER. We had no clue how to attack it. And it was special. Not so much a standard 1-2-2 or a 2-3, but a 1-1-3 matchup zone. Now that's rare. But Ford seeme3d totally unprepared and blitzed bu it. The zone also protected Osunniyi after he got his second foul. He just stood in the restricted arc and bided his time. Not once did Ford call atimneout to address the attack. No tonce did he pull Collinbs and give him some former top PG advice (Collins played 40 minutes). We scored our 25th point at the start of the de facto second quarter .... and scored five the rest of it! From the (;48 mark, we combined to put up 14 shots and turnovers, with the last five points in the half coming on a Gibby three and Collins buzzer beater at half. Right there, the game was lost. And you can't learn on the fly so that tells me the coaching staff did NOT prepare our guyas for any of it. On the flip side, Schmidt and company made it tough on Collins to drive, they played slow ball as best they could, they protected Osunniyi and just b*tch slapped the pretenders from St. Louis. We looked dazed and confused. And to me that's on the coach.

  19. So you had a losing record with a future College basketball player and a future NFL player on your roster?

  20. "They did not beat us....We gave them the game." St. B was stealing the ball left and right. Got to give them credit, they played great D as a team.

  21. Played it, coached it, wrote about it. I had one team that was so outmanned that they chose me COY with a losing record!! We’d show up and the other team would start laughing at my shrimpy kids. That was until they were in a dogfight in the 4th quarter and then things got serious. What they didn’t know was that my little 5’6 PG was a keg of dynamite who went on to play college ball, and another kid was a multi-sport star who wound up in the NFL.

  23. 7:16 scoring drought from 10:17 to 2:44 of 1st Half, outscored 16-0 in that span. 18 SLU turnovers, Bona scored 16 points off turnovers. Bewildered Offense vs. Bona matchup Zone, which looked like SLU was trying to run a dribble drive Offense right into the zone, inexplicable and unacceptable.

  25. Gibson had 5-6 open missed threes and Yuri had 3-4 unforced TOs. Half of those go the other way and we win.

  27. As much as would have liked to see Jimmerson hit those open threes, what I REALLY would have liked is to see him box out and not give up two easy put-backs tonight.

  29. Sloppy clueless offensive and defensive play and they are only down by 4. Okoro who has played well does not know what to do. To make matters worse coach Ford only played 7 players and no rest for Yuri. SLU’s advantage is the bench and free throws and have managed to not use it.

  30. Despite all that, down only 4. Ford better have halftime adjustments ready to go. Collins has to slow down and stop dribbling into trouble. Where is the Okoro we had at La Salle. The Linssen of Dayton? Yay! Yuri has 6 assist. Plus six turnovers! Jesus Christ. Be smarter.

  33. Pretty sure Yuri put back spin on that pass to make sure it hit Hargrove in stride. Full speed, one handed, bounce pass with english on it of the dribble! Oh My!
