  1. Just the opposite…it’s brilliance. Every year there is steady improvement. Through the empty cupboard Ford inherited, the Situations, the early loss of a Player of the Year candidate….. He motivates, moulds the team through outstanding recruitment and tweaking of the roster (eg starting FT which matched the beginning of some of the best basketball we’ve seen in years). Are there things I’d like to see cleaned up, yeah. But this is a team, a coach we can all get behind and support. Coach’s speech after the game summed it up fine. Good job, SLU. Good job Billikens! Now go out and kick some A10 butt.

  2. The Coach K finale was nauseating and overhyped by the ESPN train. Especially at the expense of the other games going on. Good riddance. I’m glad they got hammered at home by UNC.

  3. This is Ford's sixth season at SLU. Not counting this season since it is not over yet, he has had 4 opportunities to get to the Tourney since there was no tourney in 2019. Throw out year 1, he had Crew's team, and he has made the Tourney 1 in 3 years. Damn good for a mid-major. And we barely missed in both the other 2 years ...... SLU was in the conversation. Ford is what this team needs NOW AND IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

  4. Love's night against Duke puts to rest those rumors of him coming back to town. Nothing better than seeing Coach K lose in front of all of his dbag former players.

  5. Please stop the speculation about TJ and Jordan. Maybe they were not happy with their play. We were playing the team that leads the nation in forcing turnovers. It is easy to say take care of the ball on this board, it is another thing to do it on the court. Jones played 38 MINUTES, with 0 TURNOVERS. You must play a big man, Yuri, and Jimerson. So, for the final spot Thatch got the majority of the minutes.

  6. Nesbitt was out of control when he was in. I’m a huge fan of his, but this was not a good matchup for him.

  7. It's simply not fair or accurate to discuss his NCAA tournaments without mentioning the situation, 2 pandemic years, and what he inherited. Those facts are possibly the worst coaching luck in history. If you are judging mid-major coach's he scores very high in the most important metrics, recruiting and player development.

  8. Nice to finish the regular season with a win...Some would argue that the Bills can't hold a lead. I would disagree. We won ...winning meams you held the lead..just like RI...where posters said we blew the lead ...no we didn't ..we won the game...blowing the lead was Belmont or Auburn. We have grown since December. In Dec., we broke...now we bend but don't break. It's called being resilient. Let's see what happened tonight ...bolded statements from the original post. TOs...VCU is 4th ITN (A+) in opp TOs... one of the paradoxes is VCU also is very TO prone (F) ..And this turned out to be true....17 for VCU to 18 for the Bills...high numbers but almost a match. it is not just the number of TOs ..It's the points off TOs...as I mentioned in an example above , St. B had less TOs than VCU but they got bombed by VCU 24-12 on pts off TOs....Not the Bills...despite having just 1 more TO than the Rams...The Bills outscored the Rams 20-11 on pts off TOs...excellent...beat the Rams at their own game. 47/37/77... This was an exceed....46/ 46/84...1 extra 3 and 2 extra FTs worth 5 pts..a difference maker in a 4 pt game. Zeroing in a little more... the VCU slash was 46/ 18/ 80 almost a match EXCEPT 3s...huge difference ...great defense at the arc, Bills. score at least 70 pts ...70 was a magic number because when a team scores 70 against VCU it is almost a sure win. The Bills had to make a very difficult decision at the end of the game ...score 70 on that last FT or miss it and give The Wiz the spread. Hey.. last home game of the season.. with a win in the pocket.. they gave a tip o' the cap to The Wiz and made the 4 pt spread. Thx guys. Rebs 6+ ...This was a little short but no damage with some good 3P shooting ...not only some extra pts but also less reb chances. keep their top 3 scorers to less than 40 ..46 of which V Williams had 26 of those pts. which brings us to the last stat ...... One last stat ... This stat was not just important in this game but will be vital in A-10 tourney... VCU had 9 pts off the bench... The Bills had 33pts...nearly half (48% from the bench). In a grueling tournament where you play 3 or 4 games in a row.. having a bench that can score is huge. There are no other A-10 teams that can score nearly half their points off the bench. Bottom line...The depth/pts off the bench plus tonight's quality win makes for a brighter outlook as The Bills go in to the Tourney. We have the MO(mentum)..now let's go (Bills).

  9. from reading the posts it seems ford doesnt know who to play and we can assume the billikens lost because of it. is it ok to enjoying the win against the hottest team in the league?

  10. Observation: When SLU plays in the first half against normal defense, they are the best team in the A10. When they play in the 2nd half against pressure defense, turnovers mount, our leading scorer disappears and leads evaporate.

  11. Give it up, dude. It’s getting old. We just had the most league victories since Ford took over.

  12. Other observations: 1) Video replays on the Jumbotrons are terrible. Maybe there is a reason they don’t show the questionable calls/bang-bang plays, but they simply don’t. There were 2 in particular - one where it looked like a goaltend on a potential and-1 for us and one on a blatant missed charge that Yuri drew (maybe in restricted area). They show replays on Billiken baskets, so I know they have the capabilities. Show what actually took place. That was pretty maddening I thought. Cardinals do the same thing. 2) Though we didn’t get much from Javonte himself, Ford all but confirmed he’ll be back next season imo. “He came in and proved he’s the best player on the team, now it’s time to prove he’s the best in America”. Don’t do that by forgoing his last year. My brother made an interesting point from a scholarship perspective. I may be wrong but Perkins return puts us over the scholarship limit with all players in tact. May be a game of chess they’re playing waiting for transfers out before announcing return. 3) We could not find pizza anywhere. Maybe 2 stands in the whole place that sell it? Oh well. 4) Brought the wife to her first SLU game. We are both Mizzou grads. She made a comment “these are way better than Mizzou games”. Music to my ears haha. All in all - fun game and great turnout

  13. Excellent stat. VCU feasts on turnovers and the wiley senior on Senior Day had 4 assists, 3 steals and no turnovers. This is a teachable moment for Nesbitt, who will one day be the face of the program: stop making the game so hard, make the simple plays. A small guard with significantly less talent and athletic ability helped us beat the best team in the conference by doing just that.

  14. UNC’s second half was real, too. K was a 75 year old man playing checkers by the fire at an area Cracker Barrel and Hubert Davis was playing chess. You couldn’t script a better game. A guy sitting next to me at the bar had the best quote of the day: “at least we didn’t have to listen to Dick Vitale.” March Madness, indeed.

  15. This ain’t it. It’s one thing to be cynical, but wow. Even if you do think TJ won’t be productive going forward (I strongly disagree), maybe try to keep that to yourself. I know you’ve been here for a while and I know you know better, but we don’t speculate about transfers here with current players. Be respectful. TJ has been a great Billiken (and I hope he continues to be) and you should show some respect. and blatantly disrespectful to incoming recruits, Yikes! I’ve seen some bad posts from our people on here but this takes the cake

  18. Yes it did take the injury into acct... The computer saw that St. J beat RI by 10 (RI a better team than LaS) w/o Funk in the last game. And SJ also lost the game before to LaS by 1 with a bad Funk...20 (2-10) / 22 (2-9) / 100 (2-2). The issue with St. J is they have no bench...missing Klaczek too. If they get into foul trouble or lose another player they are in trouble.

  21. We built our lead with Jones and Yurimania playing a lot of minutes together. I can easily understand this tandem against a team like VCU. Take care of the ball!

  26. Over the past two games Loyola has looked as good as I’ve seen them this whole season. Their defense is absolutely feeding their offense. They’ve played with such tenacity. They probably won’t get above that 10 seed like if they win tomorrow but if they beat the 7 that 2 seed is absolutely going to hate that match up.

  29. Given the opportunity, Nesbitt would have excelled in this matchup, especially the 2 on 1 front court breaks VCWho allowed with its backcourt traps. Nesbitt is a forward on this roster with the ability to finish. 7 minutes is insufficient.

  32. Why was Nesbitt not on the court most of the 2nd Half? Nesbitt was given only 7 minutes the entire game. His ball handling would have been a 3rd option against Havoc. What happened in his absence is no mystery.

  33. Same story as all year, we struggle against long defenders once they resort to pressure defense and there's no closer on this team. Our 5-11 pass-first point guard is the closest thing we have to a closer on this year's team and he did just enough to preserve the win. We are who we are. I commend the guys for fighting through their obvious limitations to beat VCU in a game the Rams absolutely had to win.

  34. SLU defeated Ohio State 3-1 in a Spring game today. Legut (2) and Klein, had SLU’s goals. It was an opportunity play a lot of different players, tinker with formations (3 in back) etc…Ohio State’s goal was a PK, their only shot on goal in the game.

  35. More importantly I do not like VCU and their stupid trolls that show up on the board. I always want the bench expanded however we do not see coach Ford doing that very much. I want the VCU board troll Lester Q to have a really bad day today.

  37. And if SLU loses this game, Ford will suddenly find his dream job when the season's over. SLU will never publicly fire him because they don't like admitting they were wrong. With everyone of these games, the BigEast dream floats further away.

  40. No big deal. He hasn't been worth a cr@p since TJH Sr. shot his mouth off. For all you "where is JN" posters, you can't play out of control like he was today. Really disappointed in him, so much raw ability. I really thought he would be our best player this year but by this point in the year he has not learned anything other than tapping his chest when he makes one of his careless mistakes. We need a another grad transfer PG to fill the D Jones role. and we better hope JP comes back because none of our recruits are going to be difference makers next year.
