It is way to early to start talking about Perkins in terms of best offensive player since X. I was specifically talking about his ability to score at all 3 levels (at the rim, mid-range, 3 pointers). We’ve had players who are tremendously talented at scoring, but they usually aren’t as good at one of those levels. Ex: Claggs & Highmark were heavy on 3 point shooting, Bonner scored in the post, Larry & Jett didn’t shoot the 3 well, etc. Perkins has shown the potential to be very good/great at all three. Def not the best ever at any of them, but more balanced.2 likes -

While this is true, this is not an Apple to Apple comparison. FT’s illness involves his muscles. They may well be able to control the illness, and he will be able to exercise, the question is will he be able to train and play at the high levels that D-1 sport requires. Patients with Crohn’s disease today, can be treated with medications that allow Complete healing of the diseased areas in the Intestines. While the are not cured and continue to require treatment, once in “remission” they can exercise just like anyone else. Fitness determined by how hard they train, the concern with FT is his ability to achieve fitness may be hindered by his disease process.2 likes -

The initial foul on Evans was announced. The media timeout occurred, band was playing and the next announcement by Gus was after TJ had the ball announcing he was shooting two free throws. Perkins was not announced as shooting or the reason why, that is my complaint.2 likes -

I've never attended a junior college — and I've heard that such schools are little more advanced than high schools — but when I was in college no one ever "gave" me a class or forced me to take a class that wouldn't help me on my track. I had an advisor that would meet with me and sign off on the classes I wanted to take in a given semester, but it was always up to me what classes I took.1 like -

When we have players returning capable of boosting our margin of victory by a lot more than 2.5 ppg, I find it curious why you're fixating on one player scoring an additional 2.5 ppg. It seems like a personal preference -- you prefer the point guard to average close to double figures. That's fine, but it's not mandatory for team success.1 like -

We're already averaging 71 ppg. Simply cutting down on turnovers and adding Jimerson can get us to 74. We're allowing 66 ppg. Simply adding Thatch can get us to 64. Voila, average margin of victory is double digits.1 like -

Virginia won the national championship last year with a point guard averaging about five points a game. What matters is your average margin of victory. When you're beating people by 10+ it doesn't matter what any single person is averaging. If we play slightly better defense next year, cut down on our turnovers and add jimmerson and thatch, we should cross that 10 point threshold.1 like -

Lets shoot for second. Here me out... - We win out - Rhody also loses to Dayton and at UMass - Richmond drops 2. - Bona loses one game other than ours. - Duquesne loses at least one - Davidson loses at least one We win a 4 way tie breaker at 12-6 for the 2 seed and finish 23-8 (12-6) with a mid 50s NET ranking and place ourselves firmly on the bubble heading into the A10 tourney1 like

If you are taking only about four year players, your point is solid. If one year players are allowed into the dialogue, there is a guy who played a year or two after Clagget who might have dibs on best offensive (and defensive) Billiken ever....1 like -

A great Bills win. When Has finished the game with a reverse slam dunk..I thought ...probably not a good idea....but then I thought it was a fitting exclamation point to a huge win....Why? Because we haven't beaten the Rams since 2013 (0-9). A lot of frustration washed away with this game...... A tip o' the cap to star of the game Perkins ...not just for his 25 pts but some eye popping stats...check out his slash...72/ 75/100...you know that Magic 180 Majerus line I always talk about...he blew through that with a whopping 247. Did I mention the 7 reb, plus a steal and a block? It doesn't get any better. ...Other good performances tonight were Has shooting 72% from the field to rack up 18 pts with 7 reb, 3 asst, 2 blks and 2 steals.. coming off the bench Hargrove had 11pts. and 4 reb and was like a spark plug to the team and crowd with some spectacular slam dunks.....Goodwin another dble -dble 10 pts and 11 rebs...all together 4 Bills in double figures. Lets review the WWN2D2W from the original post up top....in bold .Mr VCU is Santos-Silva...he leads the team in PPG , Reb, FG%, & Blks. ..no double double ...hold him to a single - single.. Almost...11pts and 6 reb....good job on him If he(Evans) is out, Hyland will pickup the slack...in the last game against Day he was the high scorer with 18 pts.....keep this guy to 10 pts. Check..we hold him to 3pts. We should win the reb battle by at least 6...Crushed them on the boards by 15...this was a huge factor in the game. TOs...VCU is 3rd ITN with 9.8/gm...we need to match them...protect the ball ...no unforced errors...We actual had fewer TOs nearly the entire game...It was only in the closing minutes with the game well in hand did we give up a few TOs to give them the edge..11-13 ....Keeping the TOs down was big in helping us build the lead. .Bills slash...46/35/62...actual slash...57 /44/50..a difference maker...let me also show you the VCU slash...40/28/58...and that's what good Bills D looks like ..The key to this game will be whether Evans plays or not...well he played but not really...13 min and 1 pt...last year when VCU beat us by 6 , Evans scored 20...this year he scores 1 pt...a swing of 19 pts...almost the same swing as the game spread...again that is what good Bills D looks like. and finally , we play to the competition...which in this case will be a plus.....we certainly played to the competition and then some...We played 2 good halves...what a difference that makes Next , let's deal with post season....Our best chance now is to finish 4th...with the Duq loss tonight , there is now a path to 4th...not an easy one ...but a path...First and most difficult we need to win out...go 5-0...if that happens then we are chasing 3 teams...Duq and St. B and Dav....Assume Dav will lose to Day...we finish ahead of them...the key game that doesn't involve us is Feb 26...Duq vs St. B...somebody has to lose....let's start with Duq...1st I will assume they lose to Day on Feb 22...next, let's assume they beat St. B...then they need 1 loss against either GM , VCU or Rich and we are in 4th...next let's assume that St. B beats Duq on Feb 26...then St. B needs 1 loss to either Rich (2/22) , LaS or St. J...if that happens we finish 4th. If we finish 4th we still have to win the tourney but only need 3 games for the auto bid. ....You ask what if we only win 2 tourney games and finish with 24 wins...not good enough for an at large.... 33% chance for a bid....not all is lost ...but the odds are against us....I put this in again because it is still relevant...the only difference is we now need only 4 wins to finish 4th.1 like

I blame this win on coach Ford and French. A great moment at the game tonight was when the large crowd stood up for the defense at the end of the first half and the defense stopped VCU and it was loud.1 like -

Oh...Unfortunately there are quite a few programs without NCAA championship banners hanging. Only 1 team out of 350 something teams actually do it every year. It's pretty tough to do. Didn't know it was NCAA championship or bust for you. If you would like though, there is this thing called logic that you could use to measure success. Let me know if you would like me to help you out with it. Ya we are in the a10. So. That's the championship we try to win every year. You might not of noticed since you don't follow when the good things happen. But we won with another depleted roster last year. Coach Ford did a great job during the 4 day run and the players played there ass off. It was very exciting. I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy it.1 like -

That would be awesome. I imagine Torch means he is a CYC referee. Hell I ref those and usually have a few Gin and Tonics before the games. Even Gus could pull that off. Could you imagine 20 MBMs showing up at a 4th grade CYC basketball game to heckle the official. That would be great. Just gotta look for a gus who looks like this.0 likes

Tay Weaver and Jacobs have both had their moments this year, though not enough and not good enough, to make many teams change their game plans and not pack the lane. Add not only Jimerson but also incremental improvements by Goodwin , Jacobs, Perkins and Yuri from the perimeter and I like our chances next year. Yuri though needs to score 8 to 10 ppg if he plays 30+ mpg . And as good as Perkins has been, bc he has been better from 2 pt vs 3 pt, packing the lane works best against him too. When we play Lasalle and VCU, and most of our OOC (yes, we had Jimerson early but he really turned it on after a few games) teams did not pack the lane. Conference teams know us from last year, scout us, game plan us - and most pack the lane and dare us to beat them from the perimeter for all 40 minutes. Yuri and Goodwin making their first 3 pointers mean nothing to their game plan. And what makes things worse, is that we lose to low skilled/bad teams bc they pack the lane as A10 officials do their part by calling tight games. Not only will Jimerson will help next year as teams cannot guard the perimeter, shut down Perkins and double French/pack the lane all at the same time. And this year, if Perkins keeps up nearly 20 ppg and if Yuri can add 8 ppg, then teams will lose if they pack the lane and double French - assuming Jacobs and Weaver do not disappear, assuming Bell has his normal game and assuming Goodwin continues to play his game and lead us to postseason - but our margin for error is slim. Throw in bad FT shooting and foul trouble and no wonder our record is what it is.-1 likes -

Yes. We are not Virginia. Unusual situation. We already have too many one dimensional guys. Now if Bell, French and Goodwin improve their games, become perimeter players and each take 5+ shots per game shoot 40% + , then we can get by with Yuri not scoring.-1 likes -

Pressure to score. Is it too much to require our PG score some points along the way? Never said he has to lead the team. That he has to be a 3 pt shooter... and I believe Yuri has the ability to score 8 ppg. Do you not?-1 likes -

Lmao. We have Jimmy bell as our starter this year. You put Gordon and Jimmy on the floor and it’s a clear mismatch. Who wouldn’t want Gordon another year. We would be top 25 every year and top 2 in conference with him. I am not a fan but man seeing Jimmy Bell as our #2 big is depressing AF. Gordon and French together are the top backcourts in the A10 or even country-2 likes -

Yes. Are you? Do you believe Yuri is incapable of scoring 8 ppg? Do most teams not have their PG score points each game? Is 8 to 10 ppg too unrealistic for Yuri? 2 to 3 ppg during league games is a problem.-2 likes
