I would go UCLA 1 and Arkansas 2.  Those are the two teams that could draw really well at Enterprise.  UCLA because they are UCLA and Arkansas because of Cal.  IL or Mo could, but you don't play either of them unless it is a home and home.

personally, I don't want a team that could potentially outnumber us.

Yeah, I thought about that with Arkansas.  It is just I have a hard time coming enough with a lot a names from that list that make it attractive enough to give a road game to with out getting a game at Chaifetz.  Duke, UNC, Gonzaga, Kentucky or UCLA sure, but Cincy, Utah, GT, UGA, Butler, Northwestern, DePaul, Mississippi St...... I don't think so.

I think it would be cool to do a game with Depaul and do it at Enterprise and united center

Per the above USF related blog, USF is playing Memphis on 11/21 at Chase Center.  The SLU game on 12/5 is listed as a USF home game, meaning it will likely be at USF's on campus facility, War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

USF power forward Jonathan Mogbu is still in the NBA Draft.  I have seem him dominate some games and be less visible in others.  If he goes pro, he would be a big loss, but USF had a number of players last season with returning eligibility. USF lost a close game on a last seconds 3 pointer at Cincinnati in the '24 NIT, after missing a key free throw that would have iced it.

I also wouldn't be opposed to an MTE up in Chicago with 2 of the following 3: Illinois, Northwestern, and DePaul. Although it sounds like any newly-formed MTE for SLU would be played locally. A  "Home and Home" against DePaul with games at Enterprise and UC would be cool but Wintrust Arena looks pretty sweet.

I've said it before, and I'm saying it again.  The St. Louis Sports Commission should have started the Gateway Classic MTE here in St. Louis years ago.  Not sure why it hasn't happened.  You're only taking two dates away from the Blues by hosting one of these things and, if you schedule it with regional teams, you can bring thousands into downtown St. Louis.

Kansas City has been hosting one for years.  Why not St. Louis?

St Louis, Mizzou, Missouri State, Bradley. A tournament like that would load up downtown St Louis, and have the advantage of getting St Louis and Mizzou on the same court. You can’t tell me that wouldn’t fill things up.

Could also take it to 8 teams with different regional (or at least drivable) conferences represented:

A10: SLU

SEC: Mizzou

C-USA: Mo State

Oh Valley: Lots

Mo Valley: Lots

Sunbelt: Arkansas State

Summit: UMKC

ASUN: Bellarmine, Lipscomp, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas

This could be the way to get Mizzou and St Louis to play each other, Mizzou wants to partner with the St Louis area to increase attendance and exposure, what a better way to do it?

After a terrible last season at the SEC, Mizzou has more to lose than to gain by playing SLU at a neutral site in St. Louis. If they wanted to play a game in St. Louis they probably would choose Lindenwood to play against.

Imagine what losing to Lindenwood would do to their NET.

Just have a four team event every year and constantly rotate through with teams that are within driving distance for their fans.  Illinois, Mizzou, Arkansas, Kansas, Butler, Indiana, Memphis, Depaul, Kentucky, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Iowa, Iowa State, Bradley, Missouri State, Purdue, Cincinnati, Xavier.  add the Billikens to that list and that makes 20 that makes for a fresh tournament every five years. That’s exactly what Kansas City’s been doing for decades.

Beating Lindenwood doesnt do tj much good, either.

But playing the #21 pre season ranked team is a different story.

BUT is Mizzou confident of beating SLU under Schertz? The answer is NO.

Every time MU vs SLU comes up in conversation it always devolves into “Who’s got more to lose”… who cares! It’s basketball!  Lace’m up!

This is the way sports should work, unfortunately it not the way they work.

The comment I see the most from the Mizzou side is "We already play one game in St. Louis.  We don't need a second game there."

Last time I checked, they weren’t filling up Mizzou Arena regularly. Would not a match against St Louis draw a much larger crowd than normal? Or are they opposed to selling tickets in their place?

Add ND, Marquette, Creighton to the list as well and you’ve got sell outs for the entire event. Gateway Classic.
