Pistol Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 No surprise with Dayton and Loyola. Those will happen every year. VCU and St. Joe's will be expected to be top third teams, as well. St. Joe's still has Billy Lange, though, so they will underachieve and Schertz will have fun with him. One last trip to UMass. We avoid URI and Bonaventure road trips, though, which is nice. Selfishly, I love that there are 2 games in Richmond. Hopefully UR and VCU are on weekends or back-to-back. We've never won at VCU. Haven't won at Dayton in a decade. Have only won once at Davidson. We've laid some serious eggs over the years at all of those one-off road gyms. We have some chances to slay some demons this year. 18-0. LFG. Zink and cgeldmacher 2 Quote

Assuming we can get an MTE, we'd have up to 5 more regular season games to announce (8 non-conference games are known, plus 18 A10 games, so 5 more = 31). 5 more home games gets us to 17 regular season home games so we could do one exhibition. It's possible we could also see another road/neutral game and 2 exhibitions. At this point in time if we didn't have Jackson st on our schedule, our opp average T-rank ranking would be #112! Still a few spots left to change it, but our opp average rank is from last year (#159) to #142 Quote

TRN Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 At least 2 of the games vs Dayton, Loyola, and VCU need to be on the weekend. The many times Dayton was on Mario Gras weekend made it entertaining. Bills By 40 1 Quote

We have Dayton, Loyola, St. Joe and VCU Dayton has Duquesne, Loyola, VCU and SLU. Loyola has Davidson, Dayton, Loyola and SLU. St. Joe has Duquesne, LaSalle, Loyola and SLU VCU has Dayton, Richmond, St. Bonnie, and SLU. Quote

HoosierPal Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Article by Stu on the schedule: https://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/slu/slu-basketball-schedule-shows-signs-of-taking-a-different-approach/article_ff8f8958-34a5-11ef-aca7-c7814113e952.html#tracking-source=mp-sports Looks like the probable SLU MTE won't have P5 teams, but I'll wait and see. It mentions that two 20+ win teams could participate. Some random non-P5 teams with 20+ wins from last season, (and their season ending NET), that are not yet committed to MTE: (There are more, but these are the ones that stood out to me.) Bradley (57) S. Florida (78) Cornell (95) LA Tech (99) Morehead State (106) Akron (108) Oakland (126) Montana (144) Cincy (37) and Utah (48) are still uncommitted, but the article kind of says No on them. Quote

TheA_Bomb Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Kinda seems like someone knew they were likely to be fired and did no work on this seasons' schedule, can't blame him. Their boss didn't exercise any oversight to ensure this kinda thing didn't happen. It's kinda like that boss lacks foresight, the ability to plan, and leadership. So boosters paid the buyout, SLU got the right coach, there was adequate NIL $, the new coach filled a roster but we may have a schedule that makes it extra hard to make the tournament. That’s probably close to the truth. Nothing was done to prepare a schedule for this season before the new coach was hired. I expected to see a very weak schedule, and I am not disappointed, it’s actually sounding stronger than I feared. Forget an at large bid this year, it’s win the A10 tournament or maybe NIT. I look at it as part of the price we paid to get a new coach. Schedule next year should be better, I hope. Establishing the St Louis MTE as a real, annual thing should help. Quote

almaman Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 it seems impossible today to have a desirable schedule on Compton. no one desirable wants to schedule us, less desirable teams means losing to them really hurt. Quote

A semi away game that is a Q2 at worst game. A few other Q2 games. The MTE is unexciting but if we just scheduled those 2 teams as home games, it would be more appealing than the typical 300th ranked team we usually get. There's no fun home game but that's what happens when you're trying to build a good schedule with a bad reputation. Quote
