I've heard it explained that playing a very low ranked d1 team hurts your NET more than playing a non-D1 team (which doesn't count at all against you). Maybe one of our resident schedule nerds can explain it in more detail.

Better for the NET, worse for the selection committee. But teams have gotten away with it before. Need the A10 to be good

I thought that Robbie put together a team of pick up players to play the Bills on Nov 10th.  Then I looked it up and found out that Avila is an actual university. Silly me.

Not saying last year was anything special but it’s about the exact same sos as last years OOC, and potentially a better conf schedule than last year .

I think it’s a pretty  crappy schedule but I will give them a pass for this year. The Ford administration certainly didn’t leave them anything. A thanksgiving tournament sure would have helped. Hopefully we will win enough that better teams will be open to scheduling us next year. Somehow a Dayton can put together a decent schedule.

That’s valid. With nothing on the schedule for this year, and the MTE they were trying to get in folding, it is what it is. I do wish they would have gotten together with Bradley, apparently they are still looking. I’d prefer them to any D3 team, but oh well.

Yeah I will assume there were issues why Scherzer didn’t connect with Wardell, who is still looking for games.  Or perhaps they talked and the dates wouldn’t work. No need to speculate because the game didn’t happen. I thought we would use the good old boy network for a second game with the Valley. 
So what do you think, 4 buy games?  The two non-D1, Chicago State and Jackson State?

Most likely. Maybe Chicago St was so desperate they came with having to be paid like a buy game. But only maybe, I think 4 buy games is right.

From a flashy brand name yea it’s not that great of a schedule. But if we replaced Grand Canyon with Virginia, and San Fran with Oklahoma st I think fans would have been ok with it

This issue has been a problem for most schools like us so why are we surprised.  Yes, I saw the Dayton non-conference schedule and yes something like that would be great but as of right now we aren't Dayton - I know the truth hurts but we are what we are for whatever the reasons.  It is also not uncommon for a new coach who is taking over for one who failed to have trouble scheduling their first year.  At this point, Schertz needs to put wins on the board, get his style of play incorporated in the players and program and that comes with playing and succeeding.  Had Ford been back I was seriously considering not renewing after over 40 years of having season tix - big decision.  I decided to renew because Ford was finally dumped, and it looked like they made a hire for success.  I can live with this schedule and hope for improvement in the future.

We're locked into 3 games for next season - at Loyola Marymount, Grand Canyon at home, and San Francisco at home - so we have a solid foundation in place. We had a better MTE fall apart this season and that isn't going to happen twice in a row. Win enough this season and we're going to be a more attractive matchup for power conference teams who held off this year.

Next season's schedule will be much stronger.

This year's schedule certainly isn't going to be a draw for casual fans, and I feel bad for season ticket holders. The draw is going to be the style of play and the players themselves. We will be favored to win every non-conference home game. Not much margin for error this season.
