  1. I got vaccinated so I didn’t have to care who was vaccinated around me.

  2. To be fair it’s not just the board that has proven this. Society as whole has proven it can’t handle any discussion regarding Covid. People need to realize that they aren’t going to change any ones opinion (especially on a message board) so there is really no reason to argue about it.

  3. Whoa, just logged in here like Honestly whatever side you are on about the vaccine, I think this is by far the most controversial statement in the thread

  4. Have this really strange feeling SLU is going to finish top 2 in the league and be on solid ground for an at-large after a good non-conference. There’s so much uncertainty this year, but feel like this is going to be Travis’ best group yet, by a long shot.

  7. I don't intend to get into a pissing match with you, but FYI, the vaccine is not experimental. mRNA technology has been studied for decades, and it is safer than other types of vaccines.

  10. "Caring for" means thinking for and deciding for? Personally I don't want anybody thinking and deciding for me. That's not even what made America great.

  11. My input RE: Billiken basketball is this - Regardless of how many of y'all come or don't come to Chaifetz, these boys are gonna be real good. The preseason rankings shock me and lead me to believe the only thing anyone focused on is the departure of Has and Goodwin. I truly believe we will be better than either of the last two seasons and I sure hope I'm not proven wrong.

  13. I'm disappointed to see people not caring for others throughout this thread. Maybe I am naïve for buying into the Jesuit missions of "Men and Women for Others" and "Magis." I'm not usually a "STICK TO SPORTS" guy but maybe we should stick to sports...

  14. My otherwise completely healthy son, who was 9 months old at the time, spent time getting oxygen in a locked down floor at Children's Hospital this August because he had covid. So I am pretty firmly in the camp that kids can get pretty sick from this. I've had a few people say "well he's fine now" but that doesn't really change how we felt for that week in August and how we don't want to relive that ever again. That all said, I realize my family was the strong exception to the rule. I don't expect SLU (or anywhere) to put precautions into place to cover 100% of the possible scenarios and eliminate all risk. We may not go to as many games as planned this year but that's an "us" decision. It sucks for us but after 20 months of this virus and almost 12 months of a vaccine, I am ready to be at a point where people make their own decisions and don't have decisions made for them.

  15. I don't think we should demand the same of a 5 or 7 year old as an adult, but that's just me. I also don't think vaccines are health safety theater. The health checks, spray-downs, and half-mask wearing are, but vaccines are clearly not.

  16. We are the one of the few countries in the world masking kids. We didn't mask them for flu season despite the flu being much more deadly to them. My kids are vaccinated and they are highschool and older. if I had a 5 year old i'm not sure i'd get in line to get him vaccinated because there is almost zero risk of him getting sick. \ Given that the vaccines are not great at stopping transmission I just don't know what my families vaccination status has to do with anyone but my family. Go to see the Bills and live your life......or not. It's got nothing to do with me and mine.....

  17. This entire conversation ignores the many fans who can't yet get vaccines (kids). I'd personally like to bring my three kids who are all currently ineligible for the vaccine without having to worry about them catching it. They'd probably be fine, but 10-day quarantines are no picnic. Good policy should reward good and responsible behavior. If you don't want to get the vaccine or a negative test, fine. Just know you could miss out on some fun stuff like a Billiken ass-kicking of Auburn. The entire idea that we shouldn't have rules/laws because people will just break them is also silly.

  18. I don't think SLU's policy for games has anything to with how effective the vaccine is for people. SLU just isn't bothering doing worthless health safety theater. No one is safer at a Blues game than they will be at a Billiken because the Blues have a policy that is impossible for them to accurately enforce. The most important thing to everyone's safety when it comes to COVID at Chaifetz and Enterprise Center is the type of air filtration in use and how fast the air inside the building is being replaced with outside air. Not one person complaining about SLU's policy has bothered to ask about this far more importation issue. If you are worried about a high risk person getting COVID at a game, this should be your number one concern.

  22. I can't believe that SLU will not require some vaccination, or negative w/in 72 hrs test result, to allow people to attend games. The Blues can do it with twice the attendance. If that winds up as the final policy I will not be attending any games. They can sell my seat to an anti-vaxer from north St Louis city or county or Franklin County. That policy has to change.

  23. Sure it will be the “the tourney to watch” but it won’t be as successful as the tourney is now. You will keep the college basketball fans but you will lose the groups who like sports but not necessary college basketball. office pools will still be available but they will have half the participants.

  27. C'mon roy, I don't want to fight with you. I'm not giving my opinion on vaccine mandates here. I AM giving my opinion that it's sad to see people callously say "not my problem" about other Billiken fans' sick kids, etc. That is quite literally not caring....people are saying it explicitly in their posts. And it's sad, and I wish people would quit. It bums me out. But hey that's the internet.

  32. This is a good post, but I fundamentally disagree that people's decisions are being made for them here. Unvaccinated people don't have to go to Billiken games. Vaccine mandates for sporting events are the carrot, not the stick.

  33. I think Delta changed the overall concern level for kids, but I can assure you that my concern level for my kids' health has always remained high. My wife and I do not keep them out of most things (school, sports, etc.), but we also make sure to assess increased risk wherever it may be. I clearly need to brush up on my Wu Tang.

  35. Vaccines are safe & effective, but age is still a major factor in the seriousness of COVID infections. What @davidnark is saying about his dad not being comfortable attending games matches the data. Even vaccinated, he's at a higher risk of serious illness than an unvaccinated person who is less than 30. We've all been to games & know that a big portion of our fanbase falls into the high risk age group. I'm really surprised the University isn't doing more to protect those people.

  36. Honestly man, you are someone who should be most upset about the lack of a vaccine / negative test requirement. As your immunity from the first 2 vaccines wanes, you are going to be at a much higher risk of serious illness / death. You seem to have a legit medical reason to not get the vaccine, but a lot of other bozos don't. Their selfishness / idiocy / fear of needles is putting YOU at risk when you go to a SLU game that doesn't have a vaccine / negative test requirement. Of course, you'd have the small inconvenience of getting tested sometime before a game, but that's pretty easy now with relatively abundant free drive-thru rapid testing available.

  38. SLU 1 Richmond 0. 5 straight SLU wins, all by shutout. They will play Sunday at Rhode Island to secure the number 2 seed in the conference tourney. VCU won the regular season league title last night. SLU continued its recently successful lineup of moving Kelly to a wing, and, at times, they moved Friedrich to a central attacking midfield position from the wing. (Kelly and Sawyer wide, Friedrich in the middle and Gaebe up top) SLU had one of its best full 45 minutes, energy attacking, 2nd halves of the season. Emily Gaebe continued pressuring defenses and scoring goals in a variety of ways. Gaebe forced a turnover from a trio of the Richmond defense, beat her defender 1v1, left foot, far post: Later, multiple Billikens had a nice combination play, from the back to Gaebe, with a no look back heel pass as a target to Miller who hammers one just over the goal. Gaebe also will several good, low, driving passes with pace to set up the offense. SLU was dangerous all game with set pieces and corners. Here, a Friedrich service, nice driving header far post from Stram was saved off of the line to Houck, who’s rebound bangs off of the post. Lots of similar plays to this for SLU: Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week Bri Halverson continues to provide the needed pace and flexibility on defense, while also providing box to box offensive support. 27 shots, 16 corners for SLU. Senior night for Brianna Hatfield. She almost had one cutting in from the right wing, just needed an extra dribble and a little more elevation for far post corner: Puricelli Houck, Stram, Heckel, Halverson Miller, Kohl Kelly, Preusser, Friedrich Gaebe

  39. I am vaccinated twice and the second shot made me sick for 8 days and my doctor does not want me to take the third yet. I was so sick from the second shot I am more afraid of the third than the virus and I should be able to attend games inside. I completely disagree that SLU is being reckless on their stance and I feel finally that somebody is being reasonable. For those that feel SLU is reckless do you speed in traffic, run red lights, driven intoxicated or have caused a car accident that hurt another person? I am scared of the reckless drivers I have to deal with every day not the unvaccinated. After the pandemic is over I still have to be concerned of reckless drivers.

  40. I have come to grips with this lack of safety requirements. My only real concern are all the idiots who will find all kinds of ways to attend without actually keeping their mask up. I was on a SW flight recently and two women sitting in front of me puled their masks down when the drinks were served. There were three of them total with one keeping her mask up as required. The other two played that game with an empty cup pretending like they were drinking even though the requirement was cup down mask up. Eventually a flight attendant approached them and the two women looked at her like what do you want. After a couple of moments the two pulled their masks back up. My point is if airlines can not get compliance in such a confined area how will the arena do it? This can all work if people just will comply with the mask requirements and not play stupid games.

It blows my mind that these greedy a-holes think a mediocre Washington State team vs a mediocre Minnesota game is more appealing than watching a talented Drake team take down one of these P5 teams.

Just because we don't agree with every take means he deserves the hate he gets here. I really just don't understand the negativity he gets every time his name is mentioned.

  46. One of my favorite Eckerle stories is when SLU was playing against Memphis in a closed-door scrimmage, and Eckerle was having trouble staying in front of his man. Majerus kept laying into Eckerle during timeouts until eventually Porter Moser said something to Rick about the player Eckerle was guarding and Rick turned around and said "wait, THAT'S Derrick Rose?"
