billiken_roy Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 i have a good friend that is all about all things michigan. he swears that michigan NEVER plays games academically. i agree that is hard to believe, but this might the situation. what is more head shaking is carolina again exposed as a participant in academic distress of a former athlete. sure that is on love for the most part but makes you wonder. Lord Elrond Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Yeah, the Carolina part surprised me too. I would have thought they could find a way to get a potted plant to stay academically eligible Quote

Roy, this isn't a Love being in academic distress thing. It is specific to the rules Michigan has in place for the credits required for upperclassmen in his specific major to enroll. If Love would have started at Michigan and had the same credits he has now, he could play for Michigan. Quote

State law says that if you graduate in top 50% of your graduating class MO must accept you. Now you don't get to stay unless you meet the normal progression requirements. MO has a high dropped rate for Freshmen. There are a number of kids from less competitive schools than what students may experience in the State's larger population areas. Thus some of these kids are just not prepared for the academic demands. Quote

WVBilliken Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Its been really quiet. Maybe wishful thinking but I want players that have the ability to be in the starting lineup or at least rotation players for these last two spots. Maybe wishful thinking but a power forward who can step out and hit the mid-range shot or 3 would be awesome. Would love to see a 2 big lineup possibility. A tough ball-handling guard is a must. Just no contact initiated by the coaching staff. A player can still contact the team. Edited Guy Phillips Correction - No in person contact during the dead period. Hopefully Gates and Mi$$ou get the death penalty. thatskablamo 1 Quote

From what I read, it would have been prior to the dead period which began on Thursday, but that since Caleb Love would not have been beyond 48 hours of his decommitment that he would not have been back in the portal and recruitable. Gabe seems to be convinced that Mizzou will not pursue Love and that Gates was at dinner with a potential coaching candidate. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, if he ends up at Mizzou I think it becomes obvious that this dinner happened and that they inadvertently or not were in violations of the rules. gobillsgo Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Serious question: why are there even “dead period” rules anymore? Players are paid, tampering happens with every single player, transfers don’t sit… it seems so arbitrary to enforce a period of no contact with recruits. At this point, may as well make anything outside of threatening recruits legal. Sign guys to multi year, legally binding contracts… only way to prevent it. NCAA athletics are forever changed and there’s no going back. billiken_roy 1 Quote

Not every one is a “grad transfer” who is in it for a fifth year of basketball only Quote

First his slash line for the last season...58.3% (also his career shooting ave) / 76.3% (FT)...As he isn't a 3P shooter this translates into 2P% and FT%. ...A+ / B+. Of significance ...had he played a full season (only played 20 games) he would have been ranked as 62nd ITN on 2P%. If he is shows up in a Bills uniform next season...he is projected to shoot 55.9-60% from 2P land and 76-77.2% from the charity stripe. His problem has been an injury history has resulted in him either missing games, playing hurt or working his way back into game condition. His injury problems started with a knee injury in high school. Quote
