  1. Passing a rule to pay the athletes a $500 month stipend seems like common sense today. It was only fair since they were not allowed to have summer jobs and college sports has grown into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. But the institutions involved, both the NCAA and its member schools, were too greedy. And too short-sighted. The folks who could have addressed the issue 20 years ago are retired or gone today.

  2. Good recap Obligatory bump This guy buyouts Incredible. Dart after dart Of course the AD/PR side was a mess Among many who were pretty dang spot-on. (He did not) The capitulating stretch of posts 4-XX months later are hilarious. Probably started right when he landed Goodwin. We were star-struck It is kind of impressive how universally panned the hiring was both on the the board and nationally Garland was injured and Vandy lost their last 20 games that season (0-18 SEC) before Drew was fired. Was def in the Drew camp at the time (with most?) He went to Vandy about a week after the Ford news

  4. His AD is retiring. He doesn't want to go through another one. He doesn't like the pressure and all that comes with it of a BCS school that plays cheap with its basketball program. Wants to return to his Jesuit roots.

  6. General Outlook...."Juan" is taking a siesta. For the 1st time this season the A10 is showing the possibility of having 2 bids...Day ...4th seed in the Dance...Rich ...50% chance to Dance ...St. B...NIT...58%. Meanwhile, back in the pen, we are preparing for another battle of the PIGs. If we want to climb out of the sty we need to win this game. Let's take a look at the game Game Preview.... As you can see by the headline, the computer thinks we can win this game. Why? Hasn't the computer been watching? Yes, that's why it thinks we can win. We are the better team on offense. We are better shooters ...we should sweep the slash line. And while we are terrible on D, they are only a hair better. Rose, Gray and Rivera are their main guys...Rose from the arc and the other 2 on the inside. Tsimbila is a big shot blocker. Don't dribble into him and get swatted away. Finally, Fham is a team that turns the ball over(D- ). Turn them over. Let's take a look at this game's report card.... Report Card.... The card is negative....none up and 4 down(3 Off and 1 Def)...... .................SLU............Fham................SLU...................Fham ...........................OFF..........................................DEF............. PPG..........D+..................C....................F+.........................D+ FG%..........D....................F+...................D-.........................C 3P%...........B...................D.....................D............................D+ FT%..........B-...................F..................................................... Their 3P D is not very good ...hopefully, we can hit from the arc. They can't shoot --UNLESS we leave them wide open....this includes points off TOs too. WWN2D2W...Target slash-- beat them in all 3 categories of the slash....Hold Fham to 70 pts....Win the TO battle....Hold their top 3 to under 30 pts...Hold Tsimbila to 1 blk. Bottom line....Fham can't beat us...We either win the game or we give them the game. Let's not be sheepish...let's bring it to them.

  8. Lusk was under .500 at Missouri State. Lowery was handed the keys to one of the best mid-major teams in the country at Southern Illinois, did well in his first few years, and drove that program straight off a cliff. They still haven’t recovered, and he’s been gone for 10+ years. When he did well early in his tenure at SIU, he became a hot commodity for bigger jobs, so SIU gave him a big contract. The problem was that shortly after that, the program started to decline, but I think they had to ride it out for a few years because his buyout was high. The concern that some of have that Ford’s buyout is too high for us to pay, requiring us to just wear this for a year or two? SIU experienced that with Lowery.

  9. Fham gets a F, from the freethrow line. Hmm. That sounds like the kind if team we can defend.

  10. For twenty years all we heard people say is "We should just pay the players." And now we are here. Great job geniuses. You are about to completely ruin college football and basketball. I've never been more ready for college baseball and soccer season. Two weeks from tomorrow I will be watching the Bills play in Port Charlotte. No worrying about NIL money there. Hell we don't even have grass on our outfield.

  13. Coaches were not making that kind of coin 20 years ago. If you would have offered a $500 stipend to athletes back then, 99% of them would have gladly taken it. Instead they were told they were getting a free education and shut up.

  15. Yeah, @3star_recruit is right, a little forward thinking would have solved the problem, but thinking has never been a NCAA strength. I also think Scott Van Pelt nailed it, this NIL is not sustainable. How they solve it is beyond me.

  16. I think the computer takes what you say into account. It predicted a 10 pt win for Loy...Loy won by 15. . Once the computer picks a double digit win anything above the forecast is considered a "diminishing return" and not that meaningful. The key point of that TO stat was...in most cases you have to win the TO battle first AND THEN you need to win the game with other stats. Lose that TO battle and it will be very difficult to win the game (as in 54% + from the arc). In the A10 where you have a great deal of parity even a small TO spread can affect the outcome of the game.. The larger TO spreads just turn the games into blowouts.

  17. Was watching B10, Purdue vs Northwestern, 2 former MVC local area coaches are assistants there--Chris Lowery at Northwestern and Paul Lusk at Purdue. Both had head coaching experience that went okay to not great but now both at bigger schools as assistants. Both would know about NIL & portal recruiting and both have run programs before. Both come a lot cheaper than what paying Ford--since if have to do a big buyout, this probably means less to throw at new coach. Not saying they should be on the list but just don't overlook this kind of hire either.

  18. Great and he wants to coach SLU? C’mon, if he wants out he’ll have have his pick of open P5/6 jobs in March who will be kicking down his doors waving fistfuls of cash in his face.

  20. I hope you’re right. Until it happens, I don’t have the trust in SLU that they will do it. I felt the same way in Crews’ last season, and as we all know now, he was officially fired as soon as the buzzer sounded in our last game of the season. Hopefully I just have trust issues with SLU.

  22. That would eliminate quite a few candidates. You have to judge the circumstances of their departures. For instance, Moser or Wade would be great hires. In the past that would have eliminated Sampson or Beard. We should be able to look at the total resume of a coach to hire who’s best.

  23. I will quit my current job and lead the Billikens to at least an NIT berth within 3 years, and only ask for a 250k annual base salary for 3 years, with a 100k bonus per NIT berth. With my coaching experience and leadership skills, I know I could put together a winning program.

  24. Yeah I threatened to water board someone. I did not remember that and for the record, I never waterboarded that person. So I owe him/her still. PM me so we can meet in Rolla bring a towel. I'd like to point out that the guy I was advocating SLU hire, Leon Rice, has gone to 3 NITs, 2 NCAAs and is 14-6 on the bubble with the KenPom #28 ranked Defense this season. All our worst concerns over Ford are realized worse than we anticipated.

  25. This whole season is capitulating. It wouldn't make a difference if we forfeited all remaining games. The only thing that matters is firing Ford.
