  1. He didn't say he was watching current MVC hoops. Memphis was in that conference from 67-73 and they were playing some high level ball, the 73 team with Kenon and Finch lost in the national title game. No way this SLU team could hang with them.

  2. seriously? you are telling us why you are so awesome and we should adore you? IMO you are the most nauseating poster on this board. because of you i never read a word in any thread with a hint of soccer in it.

  3. I'm almost positive this is NOT the case in the US (and Missouri). Employers aren't required to offer paid maternity leave. The only requirement is Family Medical Leave (FMLA) which is limited to 12 weeks and unpaid. No idea what is typical for colleges. If SLU went above & beyond that in Shields case, good on them. It doesn't necessarily mean the AD isn't a dumpster fire in other respects.

  4. Some people here are frustrated because SLU Athletics repeats its some of its same mistakes and failures without changing their approach. Sounds like your posts. Same failed strategy and same failed material. Sounds like you’re tired. Unlike SLU Athletics, the solution is much easier and much less complex. But the same few people can’t get out of their own way and be decent and respectful. Group social validation must be a powerful drug. It’s funny how I receive a much different tone when some of the same people message me away from the group forum, asking me what’s going on with the basketball program.

  5. Sorry, no hostility at all. I just have read a lot the past couple of months that the athl dept is staffed with not just incompetent administrators but also seemingly a**holes. I have absolutely no clue if thats accurate as I live about 900 miles away. It was just nice to hear a clearly exceptional individual say they were treated well and happy at SLU. I will take any positive vibes I can get right now.

  9. one comment on players not being prepared to play; it's not just a "lifelong dream" to play D1 college ball. The players and coaches are quite literally PAID to win basketball games. They are paid to do a job and that is play and win hoops during the November-March months. They aren't paid to be out of shape and be unable to play long minutes. That argument of being unpaid amateur "kids" held water a decade ago and certainly when I made this account. Today it is the truth. That's part of what comes with NIL being the law of the land today. Players have to take that with wanting the pay and salaries. They are subject to criticism and accountable for failure to produce just like other professional athletes are.

  10. I would have eventually posted the answer key and explainer, but after your post, now I won’t after your post. You may want to try a different strategy. The troll/bad post buttons no longer exist because the board moderator removed them. This was at the same time after you spent months clicking the troll post button on all of my posts regardless of content or topic. Those buttons were’t a good idea for exactly that reason. Petulance, impulse control, and the inability to be decent and respectful are some of the reasons why you sit at the kids table. Sure money helps. But it’s more about the other things. Why is do you think I sometimes know things about SLU Athletics that others don’t know? Do you think it’s magic? It turns out that being decent and respectful go a long way Oh, almost forgot, you’d think a big Billikens fan like yourself would recognize the resume of a SLU Head Coach when you saw it. And for someone else who lives in Austin, TX, you’d think that person would recognize the resume of someone who coached there for six seasons.

  11. I agree with you about SLU being risk averse, but they are actually at the point where they have nothing to lose. The team isn’t even a top 200 team (much less tournament contender), recruiting has cratered and we have our worst average attendance (Not including the COVID season) since 1985-86. 1985-86 was Roland Gray’s and Monroe Douglass’s freshman season and the first winning season the Billikens had since 1972-73.

  26. Yeah you know the basic thing that all women can get through employers? We've really lowered the bar. Nobody should take anything more away from any coaches public facing quotes than putting themselves and their program first. Katie knows who signs her checks, who controls the program budget. I don't blame her and I'd probably be doing the same thing. I have multiple hand fulls of ridiculous Chris May stories from ex-employees/ex-student athletes/ex-coaches. I'll stand by my statement. With any and all due respect to Katie Shields.

  29. Funny, that year I was at both SLU-Memphis games. Jan 13th '73 game at the Mid-South Coliseum, Bill "Bumper" Parodowski got us tickets. They were hottest tickets in Memphis. We lost 60-72. We were in it most of the game but the Bills keyed on Finch and left Laurie open and he killed us. March 3rd '73 we blew them out 70-56 in the Old Kiel. Harry Rogers went ballistic on them. the 72-3 Billikens was probably one of the most under-rated teams ever. A shame no NCAA or NIT.

  31. Should we actually find us looking for a new coach the last thing we need is a search committee. Search committees take time to function. I guess a small group of 3-4 could work but they need to begin working now. We have to be ready to strike quickly. Most schools zero in on somebody and take days not weeks to hire. A short list needs to already be formulating. Before the season is over a list of 2-3 needs to have already been narrowed down and some type of feeling out done.

  33. I don't know what they know or don't know. Maybe they really know the finer points of the dribble drive offense. I don't know it wouldn't show up on a resume. However, ball don't lie. Results are apparent in relation to money spent. As for a panel, that could work to help form a search committee for an AD, basketball coach and set realistic Athletic Department goals to gain alignment amongst all interested parties. So I'm behind that it's good and creates buy-in. But, SLU once upon a time was spending at the La Salle level we were at the bottom practicing in West Pine Gym and competing with some good programs. Now SLU has a great arena, a Champions Center, spending upper echelon on a coach. We need the results to match the expenditure. The excuses for not winning no longer exist. It's time.

  34. The only guys that have done this in the past 60 years have been Spoon and Majerus. That's it. When you look at the likely free agent market after the season, you don't see that guy. It's Chris Mack, who could jump right back into high major D-1 if he wants, and everybody else. There may be an up and comer in the free agent market who becomes the next Chris Mack but the risk-averse BOT isn't going to bring him here. They're culturally incapable of it. There's a reason that those kinds of success stories happen at St. Mary's and Florida Atlantic and not at so-called established mid-majors. Programs and boosters who feel they have nothing to lose are willing to take a lot bigger risks.

  36. Huh?!?! What is the point of this? This is why the bad post function must come back. You probably spent a great deal of time crafting this post, which is meaningless, absolutely no point to it. Is that the point you are trying to make, perception vs reality? I glossed over this post saw the format and decided to re read, it looks smart. But in reality it is the dumbest post I've seen in months.

  39. Thought exercise for anyone. Without looking up or guessing names, take a look at the following career results from coaches with similar backgrounds. If something isn’t listed, that coach doesn’t have it. It’s just a quick thought exercise. There is no trick. None are suggested to be SLU’s next coach. Perception isn’t always reality. SLU for example had Ken Pomeroy Ratings ratings of 14, 19, and 35 in 2012-2014. SLU hasn’t had a KenPom season in the top 50 since, and, SLU has just one season in the top 60 since those seasons. For anyone unfamiliar with Ken Pomeroy Ratings, this is an explainer of what he does, this is a good explainer: https://www.onthebanks.com/platform/amp/2019/12/9/21002735/kenpom-rankings-explained-how-to-better-evaluate-rutgers-basketball-big-ten-ncaa-steve-pikiell Coach A: 8 KenPom top 50 seasons, 5 of them were top 20. 5 times won 70% or more of league games. 3 Regular Season league titles, 4 league runner ups. 9 NCAA Tourneys. 3 Sweet 16’s. 1 Elite 8. 40. respectfully disagree. Ford's overall raw recruiting was always excellent until the last two years. he just is such a terrible development coach and practice coach and game coach, the players never developed. look at traore? he was obviously considered a waste by ford. now he is a double double machine. the coaches you want to compare him to above, grawer, spoon and rickma, never brought in the talent that ford did, HOWEVER all were far better developers, practice coaches and of course game coaches and got far more out of their players.
