  1. I think the La Salle and Dayton losses will be forgiven. I truly believe that. I think the 2nd loss to Dayton and the loss to VCU are killer. They are high quality losses but the big thing is that they were missed opportunities as wins. But I kind of think the committee is going to let us in for the following reasons: - We have solid computer numbers especially in comparison to other bubble teams - I think the committee may error on the side of caution in terms of covid punishments. They don't want any negative publicity around a team with a covid outbreak missing the tournament - I know there is no conference cap/quota but I do think they allow 3 A10 teams in - I think they will focus on our non conference performance

  2. The more we post in this thread the more we increase the chances. Let's make this thread "hot" so when you come to billikens.com it will say it's hot. The committee won't be able to ignore us then.

  3. Let’s just get ahead of this as a fan ban. Can we all agree that the Billiken is quite possibly the first non-binary, non-racial, non-national, non-denominational, non-speciest, non-nonfictional, non-commercial, non-copyrightable mascot which used for representing non-professional professional athletics.

  4. Posters really get hung up on the position numbers don’t they. Goodwin guarded one of the opponent’s better players. Thatch guarded one of the opponent’s better players. College basketball long ago left the 1 to 5 model. How many college teams even list a center on their roster?

  6. Ok ... Fine, I promised not to say, but the speculation is getting ridiculous. TF is opening up a home based business in his house. A barber shop/Axe throwing business called Close Shave. His current home is not zoned properly for the business. This needs to stay quiet until the big grand opening. So please don't tell anyone.

  7. i am sorry, as i have mentioned, i dont recall these instances. well unless you are talking about him being open across court from the ball or perkins, goodwin, french, or collins were in the lane going to the basket. i assume you arent talking about high risk skip/cross court passes or passing out of the lane for a lower percentage shot? but i do not recall seeing gibson standing wide open with no man on him when the ball is just a few feet away in another players hand.

  11. C'mon guys --- I sold my four bedroom Colonial when my girls moved out and took the money, paid off the old mortgage and bought a golf course condo straight up. All my bills are now self-inflicted ----- gas, electric, home owners fee, car gas, golf, cable. This all makes retirement so easy. I have no mortgage, no college loans, no wedding loans, no car payments. All I do is watch basketball. And drink 18-year-old Scotch.

  12. Where do you expect him to cut to and move to when the rest of the offense is stagnant other than what 757billiken outlined? He can run around wherever he wants but he'll just run into another player standing around. Jimerson was deadly with the pump fake and 15 foot jumper early in the season. I think his legs were gone. He would be a big loss if he transfers despite people thinking he hypothetically has a bad attitude just because he doesn't show the same energy as Hargrove. He may be the biggest loss on the team since he has the least replaceable skill set

  13. it's my position that the "decline" of gibson starts with the billikens very noticeable slow down on offense. when they were running the floor more prior to the virus hitting the billikens, gibson was open on the wings and corner simply because the billikens were ad a 3 on 2 or 4 on 3 fast break opportunity more often and the defense in that scenario has to guard the ball and the lane. that went away when the billikens slowed things down.

  14. There are already 285 names in the transfer portal and we’re still 5 days from selection Sunday. Where do you envision Jimerson transferring to that will be a better situation than where he’s at right now? The market is going to be flooded with mid-major snipers who aren’t as 1-dimensional as Jimerson is for Power 6 teams to choose from. He could transfer down to a lower mid-major, I guess, but why? He was getting plenty of shots earlier in the year, and last year. Jimerson needs to learn to be more consistent on the defensive end and needs to learn how to move without the ball on the offensive end. 75% of the time, he stands on the wing or in the corner and waits for a kick out. The truly great college snipers like Fredette, Reddick, Steph, they’re constantly cutting, moving without the ball, to get open. I love Gibson. I honestly believe he’ll end up being 1 if the best 3-point shooters to ever put on a Billikens uniform, but some of his issues are on him. He will figure it out, but he’s not there yet. He’s better off staying where he is and working on his game. We need to remember that he’s really only played the equivalent of 1 full season of games. He’s got room to grow. But he’ll be fine.

  22. If the tournament selection was today, I think we would have a decent chance. The thing is there is going to be a group of teams that will most likely improve their resume as the week goes on as normally happens. We just need too much to go are way before selection Sunday to feel confident about our chances. Can it happen? Sure, but the way things have gone this year for us doesn't have me confident.

  23. Saturday's loss, like any disappointment, has been followed by more level-headed thinking with time. Right now, we're squarely on the bubble. There are arguments to be made we deserve to be in over other bubble teams, and it isn't crazy to imagine the NCAA selection committee deciding the same. For example, if they discount our two losses after the COVID break, I think it's more likely than not that we'll be in.

  24. I thought there was zero chance and then as soon as Lunardi kept us in the first four out column I started retweeting everything supporting the Bills' case on Twitter and replying back to people tagged with college basketball writers with the following message: "SLU's only two Quad 3 losses came after each player was confined to a hotel room for a month so I am not sure those losses even reflect anything about the quality of the team" It is not 100% crazy to think that if the committee sees this message over and over it might land somewhere in their subconcious when they are filling in the play in games.

  27. To me the struggles that high school players are going through in finding quality offers is an opportunity for SLU. Instead of holding on to scholarships and looking for transfer portal guys in the spring, we should be looking for high school kids that usually would end up in Power 6 schools. When everyone else zigs, you need to zag.

  30. Reminds me of UMass. The women's team is the Minutewomen. I mean come on, some things just don't make sense used by both genders. (And I know the Riverwomen thing supposedly had sexual connotations, so not quite the same thing.)

  31. I don't know. Both times I sold my multimillion dollar house it was because I had accepted a job in another city. I have to think Ford is either gone (Duke?) or is short on those bags of cash that we leave in the Chaifetz concourse for recruits.

  32. Co-sign, and I felt very much the same when we played in the 2010 CBI. I will gladly use any excuse to see our Billikens play more, particularly in a tournament format. Give some of the younger guys more of a chance to gel and use this as a springboard like the CBI did for Kwamain, Conk Diesel, and Cody. "They represent my alma mater, my school, and I'm very proud of both the school and the team." This, over and over and over.

  33. I don't understand the question. People move within the same metro all the time. The market is nuts right now, but one way to cash in is to downsize. If he can get anywhere near asking on this listing, he'll have made close to a million dollars since buying it. Then the fact he'd (presumably) be going down a decent size - no one needs 10,000 SF, but especially when you're in the process of becoming empty nesters. So then he's got all that additional equity from the old place plus a less expensive house, lower taxes, etc. and he just put himself in a nice situation. If he's already moved then he might be carrying two mortgages for a while, but still.

  35. Coach's Show with Rammer: St. Bonaventure outplayed us. Give them credit. They were the #1 seed for a reason. He liked the effort for the other games last week. Played UMass twice in a week, with two wins. On the Monday extra game, Tre Mitchell is their X Factor. He is a tough matchup at 6'9". They played an aggressive style that we had to adapt to. We did well in the first half, but not as well in the second on their press. We didn't play great in the second half. A good win for us. Thatch and Hargrove played well in that game. TJ was very active, running the court being active. Thatch was getting back into form right before the pause. It took him a while to get back into it after the pause. Coach wasn't concerned about getting the 4th seed. A lot of people were talking about it, but all he wanted to do was beat UMass. Some people thought an extra game (with a W) would have been better than the double bye. Wasn't concerned about playing UMass back to back, until he was told that some conferences went to back to back games, and the first game Loser won the second game more than the Winner. Teams who lost make adjustments, where as the winners sometimes don't make as many adjustments. He believes that we played better for the entire 40 minutes than the previous game. Mitchell kept them in the game almost by himself. "I said some stupid stuff after the game. - We played at Robbins and they played at Siegel." We are still trying to figure out what happened. They had momentum, we didn't. Uncharacteristic for us, being outrebounded as bad as they did. We had 7 shots inside the circle in the first 10 minutes that weren't blocked and we missed. Jimerson hitting three 3's. What has he been going through. "Gibson had that look, he was locked in (against St. B). He played one of his better games, and I'm not talking about his shooting. His defense, how hard he was playing, his effort on offense, loose balls, etc. UMass didn't leave him. They left him no opportunities. Trying to add a game now is just like what we did with NC State. Had a game at Michigan that fell through at the very last minute. We had a team that needed a game, but they didn't have any more Non-conference games left. We are still looking. Our worst two losses, (Q3) were the first two games out of Covid. Some teams played okay coming out of Covid, but others didn't. [There were many games brought up by listeners. Coach said, we have talked to every team that 'you' have brought up.] The coaches will be watching tourney's and seeing who gets bounced early. There are teams that we could play that would not help us. He doesn't want to do that. Reputable people telling Coach that the lack of games will be held against us. Coach said we would accept a bid to the NIT if we don't make the NCAA. Show will be aired on KMOX tonight, or do what I did and watch it on Facebook.

  36. Let's go through some examples. Goodwin got better each year that he was here. He wasn't putting up double-doubles at the beginning like he is now and his shot is greatly improved. I don't think that it is fair to blame the coaches for one player not improving, but credit a different players father for his obvious improvement. Also, I think that French did improve each year, but sometimes a bad shooting touch cannot be fixed. Hargrove couldn't even get on the court because he was so lost when he first arrived. His improvement is directly connected to the coaching staff. He is so much better defensively, his shot has improved, and his awareness in both the offense and defense is so much better. I think we would have seen more obvious improvement from Thatch had he not had his medical issues. That being said, he looks ready to turn the corner and be a major contributor next season. Thank you coaches for helping with that. Perkins had to transition from playing JUCO level guys to playing Division 1. Remember his first semester of playing. We were wondering if he would be a contributor. You cannot attribute the improvement he saw just to him. Again, you can't give the coaches all the blame for someone not developing and no credit when other players make improvement.

  38. I crunched some numbers and I think at this point we either make it or we don't. There is a good chance we will know on Sunday once the selection committee releases their bracket. If we do make it we will be playing in the big dance over in Indiana. If we don't make it we will be playing in the NIT down in Texas. Thoughts?
