For those of us not on Instagram, can someone relay Walsh’s finalists? I’ll hang up and listen.

My guess ... the staff is passing on Luke.  Thinking they are aiming for a higher level & taller/quicker recruit.

These are the kinds of offers that high school kids outside the top 300 receive in the portal era.  You can always get a more highly regarded player who has warmed the bench for a year at a high major.

Unfortunately, true.

If Luke has a stellar year at one of these low-majors, he will be gone.

Curious, the bronco and the husky dog, what schools do they represent? I guess that's not the UCONN Husky 😆

I’m guessing the Husky is Northern Illinois. Not sure about the Bronco, Western Michigan? 🤷‍♂️

I talked with the dad of the best shooter (by stats) in the Atlanta area when I happened to meet him on a court in Florida earlier this month. He was telling me how dry the recruiting market was for HS players. Lots of teams are so focused on the portal and so convinced they'll lose 75% of the HS players they recruit that it's almost not worth the bother to cultivate a relationship for 18-24 months, just so another coach/program can take that player in a two week window during the next spring.

That being said, the interesting team on Walsh's list is Northeastern. This is the school where Jim Calhoun cut his teeth and Reggie Lewis played. The current coach is Bill Coen, from the Al Skinner coaching tree at Boston College. Coen was seen as a very good coach but the team has recently fallen hard, losing 20 games three seasons in a row. Under different pressures he would have fallen hard.

It's the one school that doesn't fit on the list of midwestern mid-majors. It's also a rising school in a town that appreciates good hoops.

This. The portal rules recruiting. Even Calipari finally got the message. Only the top schools are going to get the cream of the crop HS players who are likely one and dones, see Cooper Flagg. It remains to be seen whether a team stocked w/ 5 stars can win a national championship, which I think is highly unlikely.

I think the portal just pushes the recruiting window out a year.  Instead of rolling the dice on a mid major recruit out of high school, mid major schools will be recruiting proven low major freshmen or high major freshmen who haven't been getting playing time.

I actually would like to see schools like SLU take advantage of high schoolers getting less attention and maybe bring in some of those guys ranked 100-150 that you wouldn't typically get. But I talked to a high school coach in the area say that high school kids want good NIL deals and schools like SLU can't afford to give a good deal to a guy who will sit on the bench for a year and then perhaps leave after that.

You're getting that top 150 kid in the portal after he sits a year at a high major anyway, and probably at a cheaper price.  So what's the point of getting him out of high school?

If the kid is as good as some say shooting-wise, this is a pretty crappy list of top options.

He can legit shoot and that's not a bad list of offers. Lower-level Big 10 and Big East schools like DePaul and Northwestern aren't taking flyers on below top 200 level guys. They'll just recruit him away from SEMO if he shoots 40% from 3 in two years.

Seems to be the epitome of new-age recruiting.  Kid is forced to go low but produce and then bail out and sell to the highest bidder.

If Walsh goes off at one of these mids and seen as a sniper the world becomes his oyster. P5 comes calling with mucho NIL $$$’s.

Totally agree.  How much hype and $$$ would we have had to pay for 4⭐️ AJ Casey out of HS?  Now he’s here anyway.
