  3. I assume DePaul will make a swing at some big names and miss. Then they'll take a swing and miss on the broadcast/out of work dudes. Then they'll come back down to someone like Bryce Drew, Schertz, Wardle, or Becker. Schertz makes peanuts at Indiana State so he's probably the most realistic of those dudes. Becker also makes peanuts but he is an east coast lifer. If Schertz finishes the year strong, he'll have better offers than DePaul though. I think any coach needs to extract a 12 million over 6 year deal that has some hellacious buyout number in years 1-3. It could be career suicide to go there. Or it could be a king making type job. But thats a 90/10 split for sure.

  5. Chris May shouldn’t and can’t get a pass on this mess. Can’t be allowed anywhere near hiring a third head coach.

  6. All the people who think we can't afford to move on from Ford are not factoring in the lost revenue piece if you keep him. Instead of losing a couple of hundred season tix renewals you will be probably looking at 1000 or more especially if this season spirals even further out of control. This doesn't even factor in the loss of concessions and parking money that will accompany this. You can say well give the tix away and the concessions and parking money will be replaced - the problem with this is it is hard to give tix away even to youth groups if nobody has an interest. The loss of the season tix holders also means a loss of Billiken Club memberships. Also, once you lose a season tix holder you probably are not getting them back ever. At this point I am seriously considering dropping my season tix for next year if Ford returns - I have had tix for 44 years so this is not a decision I make easily. My point is that the overall health of the program will take years to recover if that even happens - I suggest that getting rid of Ford is not a difficult decision to make if you care at all about Billiken Basketball future. Too much is at stake to keep him but then again people often make decisions that are contrary to their own best interest when they are short sighted.

  7. At this point you have to give Ford an extension. Just too many things going against him.

  8. Looked pretty good against Illinois State & Southern Indiana? I want some of what you're smoking. You can't play transition with Mike Meadows and Cian Medley at the PG slot. SVB is Gillman & Jolly-level bad. He's gone next year. Curcic CAN'T PLAY. That's why he's not getting minutes. How stupid do you think Ford is? He's been coaching for 27 years. He recruited and coached Marcus Smart and Jordan Goodwin. He knows what's on this roster. He knows that he failed this year.

  10. He has to know if it is renewed or not. I think that this is a contract provision that appears a lot in sports. The team can decide it is not renewing a five year auto renewing contract, so now the contract is down to four years. Then the next year they decide to not renew again, and it is down to three years. In that situation, if the coach wants to stay at the institution and not be fired, he has to step it up. If he shows his employer that he's worth keeping they can always still renew the following year and reset the clock back to five years. I do not necessarily think that it results in a coach quitting on the university when they don't renew.

  13. Bill im just saying SLU has money that isn't all restricted. This cost to put up the lights compared to the Fund Balance is a spit in the ocean. What's the purpose of the fund if not to make Saint Louis University better and the experience of Saint Louis University better? Btw Bill I miss Bloom County every day. No doubt my favorite comic strip ever

  14. Believe when he was the head coach at Mount Brook HS he played some local teams in the City of Palms Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale. Pretty sure he was doing poker tournaments on the side to supplement his income back then. He's very into analytics, know he used to ban his teams from shooting midrange. Don't know if he's carried that into college.

  18. Chris May hiring his third head mbb coach after Crews and Ford is a joke. Does SLU want to just go D3 and call it a day? I’m thinking that makes most sense.

  23. IF this is accurate, how can SLU allow Chris May to keep his job? This is one of the dumbest contracts in all of sports right now. Like who thought this was a good idea and who was “stealing” Travis Ford away from SLU? He under performed at OK State, had every bell and whistle, had resources in another galaxy compared to SLU…so who thought this would end any different? Chris May? Yet, Ford needed new locker rooms, more charter flights, built CC, and what’s been that ROI? Program is in bad shape right now and literally almost broke. If Chris May was in real business world would he keep his job handing out a contract like this? I really do not get it at all and would love someone to give a good defense on behalf of Chris May and whomever else approved this contract. Imagine paying a mediocre basketball coach $2.5 million a year and then having to give him $7-9 million to just leave after being terrible at his job, then turning around and telling that guys former boss, hey fix this for the third time please, we trust you. This is insanity.

  24. I don’t think it’s being overlooked. What else is there to say at this point? We’re all numb and this program is approaching dumpster fire status. Hoping like hell we hit the restart button this spring (barring some massive disaster, Ford isn’t getting canned before the end of the season). I also still wish the best for Tim even though he is incapable of passing the basketball.

  25. Good luck to Tim. He averaged 2 ppg as a sophomore in high school, improved enough by his senior year to go to a decent juco, developed into an all-conference player and then put up decent numbers at the mid-major level. His motor can never be questioned. Hope it works out wherever he ends up.

  27. He was one of the most selfish players ever to be a Billiken. He had moments he was very good, but more times than night he'd dribble into trouble then throw up a shot that had absolutely no chance. I won't miss him hope the family "personal problems" work out. I don't wish family concerns on anyone.
