  1. In all seriousness, by all accounts he's a fine young man, was a great representative of Mizzou, and I personally enjoyed his game although they were so bad I watched very little this past season. I wish him success.

  2. 1) The guy had a newborn son in St. Louis. That difference alone makes the comparison irrelevant. 2) Get used to it. Since Carte'are's freshman year the Covid chaos, easing of transferring protocols, and money coming into the college game has and will continue to accelerate the frequency of transferring. 3) Just taking recent Billiken examples - Marten Linssen, Tramaine Isabell, Miles Reynolds and Zeke Moore all played for three schools in three or four (when including sitting out) years. Jalen Johnson was with four schools in four years, but didn't play last year due to injury. It's simply not the "headcase" hallmark you think it is.

  3. the biggest mistake nesbitt made imo was letting penny hardaway talk him out of his senior year of high school and sitting on the bench for a semester getting absolutely nothing out of that. it's pretty obvious penny is a horrible coach, so he learned nothing and gained zero game experience. in hindsight his decision to come to slu was not good either. his mindset and skillset did not mesh with ford and forced the current situation. not ford's fault. at least not all of it. both should have understood what the other wanted/expected upfront and maybe he could have found the better scenario from the onset. i definitely dont think it is fair to nesbitt to paint the awful picture many here are making of the happening. he isnt anything like gordon who was ready to fight the entire roster at the end. i havent heard a discouraging word about nesbitt and his teammates. so that doesnt appear to be a valid comparison. just let him move on and wish him luck. we got enough problems assembling a complete roster right now. let's just let nesbitt find that situation that fits him the best. i agree with coach. close this thread. we arent accomplishing anything here.

  5. This "Nesbitt was selfish" take is overblown. His defense was usually solid, and at times he got in the heads of opposing players. Sure, he could have made more of an effort to get rebounds. But I saw Isabell go full "me first" a whole lot more often than Nesbitt did. More often than not he made the next pass, moved it to Yuri or Gibby, instead of taking matters into his own hands. He was 5th in Field Goal Attempts, between Okoro and Hargrove.

  6. Disagree. Was too unselfish

  7. Yeah, I never saw him as selfish either. He would have some questionable shot attempts at times but he seemed to make the passes he was supposed to and mostly ran within the offense. Personally, I didn’t think he got enough shots/plays ran for him.

  8. Illinois has a similar page up. I doubt if it works here as too many of our MBM's are more concerned with where they can buy a beer and at what price. Here is a different spin on NIL from Indiana. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2022/04/07/iu-nil-indiana-university-hoosiers-for-good-athletes-net-nearly-half-a-million-dollars/9486600002/ I don't know how this stuff gets started or publicized or how it is communicated to prospects, and not involve the university. But others have certainly figured this out, and if SLU wants to compete for high level recruits, some form of a program needs to be visible and moving forward.

  9. When he came back from Messphis we all got excited thinking we got a mini Legend. Of course, it didn’t go that way for us nor JNez. Legends usually come along only once in a lifetime. He had his moments, but he never had them consistently. I liked his D and energy. Never was crazy about his attitude when he was pulled. I get the feeling his getting the hook was a source of friction between he and Travis. He stayed a starter, but the yanks became more frequent. Tensions increased between the coach and the guy who thought he could be a one and done. I don’t think either he or Travis are losing any sleep over how this eventually played out, ie parting of the ways. Here’s hoping it was for the best for both parties.

  10. I wouldn’t say mizzou doesn’t need him. my guess is he returns to butler, he obviously liked the school, and they now have a great coach.

  11. Weird how the people who don't care about women's sports post the most opinions about women's sports.

  12. Javon with Frank C. Pickett roomed with Brook Ford at Missouri. Once he put his name in the portal. Three days later he started hearing from schools. Turned some down immediately. Considered TCU, Arkansas and SLU. Had lunch with Javonte and Fred. At dinner Yuri and Fred were there. He really hadn't spent time with Yuri. Liked what they had to say about the program. This will be his first time to play with a PG that can pass and score. Why his success in the SEC conference play. "Finally bought into what Coach Martin was telling him. I didn't shoot the ball that well this year, but I can shoot it better." His success is attacking the rim and not settling for a jump shot. "I like to finish through contact in the paint." Heartbroken when Martin was released. Bro Jordan Pickett is a Junior on the East Side. "It will be good to watch him and to help him." He watched a little Billiken ball. "Likes Francis as he is dominate. Jimerson can shoot very well and do more than that. Fred is aggressive around the basket and Hargrove can rebound and shoot. We all know what Javonte and Yuri can do. Good opportunity to make a run." Javon has 3 weeks left at Mizzou and will be graduating. Move into SLU end of May and start working early June. Frank: Any flack from Mizzou Fans? Javon "Not really. There have been a lot of encouraging words and thanks on what I did." Players on both Mizzou and SLU teams. Tremaine Isabell, Julian Winfield, Kevin King, Ricky Frazier, Lamont Turner, Ted Mimlitz....any more?

  13. I have great respect for what McCaffery has done at Iowa. Part of that success can be attributed to the big men he signed who were physically ready to endure the punishment you take in that conference. Turnbull is about 215. Tyler Cook and Luke Garza were already 240-250 lb when they showed up on campus. In the the A10, lean bigs can still contribute even as they're building the bodies.

  14. No, he legitimately could get the same scenario at Iowa. That's not smoke. The question is whether he can thrive in the B1G. Garza had the same kind of arsenal and got a lot of minutes his freshman year, got beat up a lot and lost a lot of games. But he worked his way up to #1 option on offense. Fran Mccaffery is likely pitching this blueprint and has produced players on 3 straight All American teams. And defense is not priority one at Iowa. Got to admit that is a pretty good pitch to have for a recruit.

  15. I get that, but my point was that it won't be better at Iowa or Butler. I don't think he is going to be the go to guy at those schools his freshman year. At SLU, we only have one big on the roster right now, and he is done after this season. At SLU, Turnbull will get minutes this year, and could be a starter next year. If he thinks he's going to get better than that at Iowa or Butler, I think he's getting smoke blown at him.

  17. I would have liked to have seen him play a little more selfish at times. There were so many times I thought c'mon JNez assert yourself right now. I don't care if it results in a t/o or a missed shot, just take over.

  19. The Hawkeyes need help on the frontlines. Rebraca is their 6'9 5th year senior center and the backup center transferred. The question for Turnball would be whether he is able to guard the extreme size of B1G centers. There are minutes to be had at Iowa if he can.

  20. He gone, yo Look, if he was playing hero ball and actually able to beat his man and score consistently while losing playing time for not playing hard on D or passing enough - that would be one thing...but the reality was that was not acclimated to the altitude of top 100 D1 competition. He did not have a good feel for the game. He regularly would look awkward trying to do too much and for as physically gifted as he was, he was often times the weakest link of the 5 on the floor for the Billikens. We all had high hopes for Nesbitt. It didn't work out. That's on him. Hopefully he'll end up like Willie (minus the scumbag agent costing him 8 figures and domestic violence thing that ran him out of the league) and not like the others being mentioned.

  21. Well, that is too bad. He will get to Iowa and see 5 of his doppelgängers, and it will be hard to even leave. Bummer.

  22. The stated goals and the resume don't match. Am I not allowed to question why Chris May stated that he was looking for regular apps in the NCAA tournament but hired a coach that's only been there once at any competition level or job level nor has she has been anywhere for sustained success? This is why people expected someone like Jackson-Durrett or a head coach that had spent a good number of years at a small program and made at 2 or 3 appearances over that span. That's all I have to go off as a fan. Nobody else was in the interview room... Clearly she knocked it out of the park in there.

  23. Is everyone aware that St. Louis has a lower level womens pro team called the St. Louis Surge? They have been in the league title game the last 3 seasons and have won 2 league titles. They play at Wash U and average nearly 2000 fans. Former SLU womens asst Petra Jackson is HC and Former Bill Justin Tatum is Asst. Their roster is mostly made up of local players.

  26. Despite the title, I don't think this whole thread has necessarily been about Tillett or her ability as a head coach. It feels like it's more about the reasoning given for firing Lisa Stone by Chris May as well as the statement of goals for the future of the Women's Basketball program. There is no question that Tillett's short stint at Longwood was incredibly successful and it's no question that Tillett is a good coach. However looking at May's exact quote: "Our goal is to play in the NCAA women’s basketball championship regularly. This is a great job in women’s college basketball, and our program is well positioned for sustainable, long-term success." Back to Tillett's resume. She has made the NCAA tournament one time as a HC and WNIT as an Assistant. She has only recruited to the Patriot League and the Big South. Tillett's big thing is culture, there's no denying that culture is important in long term success but nothing concrete in her resume indicates sustainable and long-term success. That's just a fact. The issue people are having with this process is the disconnect between May's stated goals for the program and the choice of head coaching hire. They don't match up. That being said, I'm behind Tillett from jump street. I'll be at her first game and as many games as my schedule allows. Let's ride.
