Ive been wondering what the temperature is as far as students and their support of the bills. Feel like the student section has been really disappointing this year compared to years past.

As a senior, I don’t see many of my upperclassman friends at the games that used to attend at least somewhat regularly pre-COVID. I know a few people that are there at every game but they are few and far between and usually friends with some of the players or cheerleaders. There was a good turnout Tuesday night but a lot of the student section left at halftime once they had the jerseys from the giveaway.

Overall, it seems lighter to me than years past but it’s still early in the season and we haven’t played many big names at home just yet. Auburn won’t be a good student turnout because it is right after finals and most of the student body will be heading home for break. I think the games against Dayton, VCU, and St. Bonnie (if SB is ranked) will be the true litmus tests.

I'm kind of surprised they waited this long.

SLU,an institution of higher learning, would push false scientific claims in their release is disturbing.  If we let them, these lies will become the truth in our 1984 world.

Fact - All masks have limited effectiveness, even N-95 against respiratory viruses. Prior to 2020 no public health guidelines included masking as an effective form of mitigation. Over 75 years of studies have come to this conclusion.

What a great move by the administration.

Everyone has been bitching up a storm about the last two games.

Can Ford coach?

Is Yuri a good PG?

Why isn’t Nesbit playing?

Now we have something else to fight about.
Just like that all the pressure has been removed from the player.

Well played Athletic Department!

Ummmmm…when did I say any of that. I literally started my post saying I don’t care if anyone gets vaccinated or not. Also, a vaccine having side effects doesn’t mean it’s experimental. It means it has side effects for some people. Just like every prescription drug on the market. There’s a GINORMOUS difference there.

A vaccine rushed through is experimental despite your denial... again, the issue is forcing it down people’s throats??? Are you good with mandated breathalyzers at the gate??? It would serve a far better purpose, but we know that isn’t happening.... right?? See, personal liberty is important unless it promotes a specific  political agenda...

What has that got to do with drunks coming out of the building Rich???? I thought you were all about the welfare of others???? As for as your asinine comments about the side effects of Lipitor, who is being forced to take it??? Is that going to be another mandate to gain entrance to games??? Liberal idiocy and those who support it are destroying this country.... and for the record, I had the worthless vaccine and still got Covid just as millions of others have as well... I hope the woke crowd, who rarely attend a game, will dig deeper in their wallets to make up for those who have enough of this insanity...but they won’t, they already got what they want...

I haven’t said I support this decision about Chaifetz 1 way or another. mRNA vaccines have been around for decades. That’s a fact. That’s not up for debate. You can say it was “rushed” but when you already have a proven system for creating a similar type of vaccine, all the best vaccine specialists in the world working on the same project, and trillions of dollars supporting getting the vaccine out as quickly as possible, no, it didn’t seem rushed to me. Let’s not forget, it was the Trump administration who came up with “warp speed”, now it’s his very supporters complaining about how rushed it was. I’ll repeat. I don’t care if you get vaccinated. I don’t care if you’re a democrat or a Republican. Just don’t be a hypocrite.

Just go get a test and then change the date on it via some sort of photo editor.

I feel bad for athletic department folks. I’m sure this was an idea put together by the campus academic types and the edict given to the department with the most exposure to it having very little/no input.

Overall this is just silly and more covid theater.

You are right NO ONE is FORCED to take statins for their cholesterol.  It's probably a good idea though.  I'll tell you another thing.  Man this board gives me some real screaming headaches sometimes.  I can tell that you like me don't use any of that experimental stuff like ibuprofen or acetomenifin.  Pure asprin.  Just like mom and grandma and great grandma took.........oh bother!

For my third shot they HAND WROTE the lot number and location of the shot on the card.  The first two shots I got at SLU at least had stickers for the lot numbers.  A 10 year old with a working kwowledge of photoshop could come up with a more official looking doc.  Hell even I could.  Those medical professionals getting tagged for handing out bogus vaccine cards should be fired out of cannon both for their duplicity and their stupidity.

Quit crying, get the vaccine or get tested. Pretty simple.

I don't understand this attitude. I don't know if it's a new phenomenon but I find it hard to believe that insulting or shaming people into doing something works. Has it worked with the obesity epidemic? In politics? Doesn't seem like it. I don't know maybe I just have a problem with authority but when someone yells at me to do something my basic instinct is to yell right back.

I'm not shaming anyone into getting the vaccine. SLU set a rule, follow it or don't go to the games.

I mean that's not entirely accurate based on your verbiage. Perhaps I should have included "combative" as well which both shaming or insulting fall within. You're obviously being combative with your assertion that people should "quit crying".

I truly don't mind SLU requiring a vaccine. (Personally if they do require a vaccine I'd prefer they then drop the mask requirement, this was the standard at every establishment when I visited NYC in October and I did really appreciate the policy, but whatever.) The issue most are having, as I see it, is going half way through the season then adding it, when it's been the norm other places well before Chaifetz opened its doors for basketball. I think it's kind of sh!tty but it doesn't directly effect me as I've been double poked since spring, therefore I'm not upset about it.

My personal issue with the announcement is the inclusion of flu season as a reason to require the covid shots. That just doesn't even compute. It also is a concerning precedent to set and as I said earlier feeds into the narrative that there are at least small and growing pockets of decision makers who want to keep health restrictions or mask mandates in place long after covid is gone to prevent things like flu transmission which we've had immunization for and have lived with successfully for a long time. (I don't feel like looking it up)

I don't think one person has said not to follow the rule.

There is a debate going on about the rule, just like there was a debate about the previous policy that didn't include the mandate.  Having these debates is what should happen in a healthy society.

Like 05 said, if you're having vaccine mandates then the mask policy has to go. You just can't have both.

I understand the mask policy isn't enforced as is but to even ask people to put it on to enter, immediately after asking them to prove they've been vaccinated against the disease the mask isn't actually protecting you from in the first place, is implying that neither actually work anyways and it's all theatre.

Why stop at Covid vaccinations? Let's check for all vaccines at the door. I'd rather know someone is vaccinated against Polio than Covid. Or do we just not care about that because it isn't timely and trendy?

that's right, and i'm giving up my season tickets which i've had for 36 years... fortunately the Athletic Department is cooperating with giving refunds for the balance of the year..i can now  watch the games at homes, just like our East Coast crowd and complain about the poor attendance and atmosphere....

That is entirely correct.  Each and everyone has the right to choose whether it is OK for himself and family to get vaccinated or not. This means that those who refuse to get the vaccine or do anything else that is required, should opt to stay away and not attend games at the Chaifetz. We will see soon enough how many people return their tickets and demand a refund, and how attendance at games will be. I think it will be a lot lower than it has been.

But make no mistake, SLU is a private company and they have the right to decide the requirements for public attendance to the games. This is not a discussion, this requires a simple yes or no. Oh and it is also true, like we have heard so often over the last few years that "actions have consequences."

No. I’ve said repeatedly I don’t care if you get vaccinated or not, and I don’t. But if you choose not to get vaccinated, don’t lie about it or lie about getting tested just because you can’t handle the consequences of the decision you’ve made. Act like a grown up and own it. Lying about it is just cowardice.

It is possible to have two upper respiratory illness - often pneumonia develops from the flu or a bad cold.  Keeping your lungs clear will help in fighting Covid.  I took the flu point as just a tack on and not the main reason for the change in attending games.

It doesn't matter why they tacked it on. It shouldn't have been tacked on to a release about vaccination requirement for Covid19. If you want to tack it on to a mask requirement, I don't like it but at least I understand the motive.

Well your objection seems a bit picky at least in my opinion.  They could have also said ingrown toenails are a problem at the school and it would not have changed the overall reason but whatever.
