IF , we move on from Ford , and UCF were to let Johnny Dawkins go, would that be someone to consider??

I was hoping we would have hired him when Stanford let him go, bit UCF got him first...

Been a rough year as newcomer in Big 12, but do have 3 wins over ranked opponents...

Thoughts?

No

Interesting you have Richmond ahead of Drake.  I think Drake is a legit bubble team and I don’t see Richmond as that right now.  What am I missing?

I don't show that either team would be strong enough to get an at large bid at this time....It is possible both teams could get an at large bid if they won out the rest of the season and both made it to the conference final and lost.

Right now, I am showing Rich with a 76% chance  and Drake with a 66% chance to make the NIT.  You need to be in the 90%+ to have a real chance to Dance.

It is the ghost of "Juan Bid" haunting the Mid Majors.

I will continue to show post season chances in the spread threads.  If you want to check on a team outside the A-10 , let me know.

Thanks, @The Wiz! All hail Wiz’s almighty computer, at least until it merges with some AI somewhere and starts on a path of world domination…

Kim Anderson should be a cautionary tale for getting blinded by D-II success...

Others have already pointed out some massive differences, but to add to those:

  1. Kim Anderson was 58 when he was hired at Mizzou and Ben McCollum is 42 right now.  That's a fairly significant gap.
  2. The jump from DII to SEC is bigger than DII to A10.
  3. I think Mizzou had some restrictions / was under probation from Frank Haith stuff during Kim Anderson's tenure.

That not to say that there wouldn't be some risk in hiring McCollum, but Anderson's failure at Mizzou does not count at all as a negative for McCollum.

so you want to penalize the guy who has been shunned by the afraid to play big boys?   hell we cant get big schools to play and we are in a major metro area.   he has to get schools to want to come to Terre Haute Indiana.   plus the MVC does nothing for those wanted opponents.  you just know they are preaching "we have nothing to gain playing you."

No.  He actually got two big non conference games and lost them both.

I want to provide some clarity on my thoughts on Schertz vs Mack.  Schertz has been coaching a D1 program for two and a half season and has been successful in the last year and a half.   He has no wins over any team of consequence during that time.  This doesn't mean he wouldn't be successful at SLU.  It just means he doesn't really have a track record to rely on.

Chris Mack coached Xavier for 9 seasons.  During that time, they went to the NCAA tournament 8 times, to the Sweet 16 four times, and to the Elite 8 once. In his first two years at Louisville, they should have gone to the tournament twice, but one year got messed up due to Covid.  He went 13-7 in the next weird 20/21 Covid season.  Then got fired halfway through the next season.

Given the above, I don't think it's a close call by any means.  That being said, I do understand the idea that guys want to look to someone they feel we have a reasonable chance of getting.  However, if we had a chance to get both, Mack is the clear winner.

This is very reasonable, and if there is a choice between both, I’m honestly not sure which guy I’d hire.

That being said, I’m not sure if Mack legitimately will be on the table. There are some jobs that inevitably will open that he’d be in heavy consideration for.

Clearly.  And I wish Mack well at his next P6 job, where he's had a long track record of success.

Why have the candidates for the SLU job that the local media has mentioned (fed by SLU officials or boosters) all been awful?  Crean, Weber and now Ahearn?

I worry different boosters have very different opinions on the next coach. And I'm sure the AD differs from both of them too. I don't necessarily expect an organized effort here

Crean was started by the national media.  Weber was started by Weber himself.  Ahearn was probably the option if the move was made last spring and that is probably why it ultimately didn’t happen.  I don’t think he is in the top options group of anyone who is actually going to have a say this time around. That said, I’m probably higher on Ahearn than most and he isn’t even close to the top of my list.  He is a guy you talk to and keep in my mind if you are told no thanks one too many times.  He has a lot going for him, but would be too much of a risk given our current situation with no college head coaching experience.

The only person pumping up Ahearns name is Ahearns agent.
