  1. When Yuri's hitting shots it makes it easier for him to create for other guys, and simultaneously when other guys are hitting shots it makes it easier for Yuri to score - wash rinse repeat. That's exactly what we saw Saturday. Also saw better off-ball movement and active pass receiving, both of which make Yuri's job much easier.

  3. Kramer scored 17 in SLUH's 66-60 semifinal win over Blue Springs. He didn't score in the first half. He hit a big 3 to put SLUH up 60-57 with under 2 minutes left and SLUH put it away with FTs. SLUH then lost 58-42 to Bentonville in the championship game. I found Bentonville's stats but nothing on SLUH yet. Kramer and SLUH (3-2) take on CBC at home this Friday. Thames scored 15 in a 53-52 win over Rock Bridge at Mizzou Arena. Not his best shooting night - 6-18 overall, 0-4 from 3, 3-4 FT - but he added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and turned it over once. Pattonville moved to 3-2 on the season and goes to Jennings tomorrow. Parker was named MVP of the Highland Tournament, which Moberly won with victories over Sauk Valley, Morton, and Highland. Parker scored 19, 26, and 14, respectively. He's now averaging 19.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 0.9 APG, and 1.6 SPG with a season slashline of .456/.356/.792.

  4. I think he should use the strategy of scoring more points than the other team. /sarcasm off

  5. I'm glad you feel so positive about the game. I have thought that it would be our toughest game in our run of 6 difficult OOC games. Clearly, I don't have your knowledge of this, but I still will be pleasantly surprised if we stay within 8-10 of them, and blown away if we can pull off a win. We need to make sure the flu bug is long gone.

  7. Not to jack @HoosierPal's thread but this probably makes more sense here than anywhere else. I'm continuing the tradition of periodically updating the current team's chase of the record books throughout the season. The hardest part this season is that it's not 100% clear which class people should be classified in, so I'm going with what the roster says for this season. I'm a little late starting it this year, but here's where we stand through 11 games: Marten Linssen has a FG% of .603, which would put him fifth all-time in a season and first among seniors. His FT% of .813 is a little outside the top 10 for seniors, needing to get to .832 (Kevin Lisch). He has 12 blocked shots and needs to get to 27 to tie for tenth (Justin Tatum, Jamal Johnson). DeAndre Jones is shooting .429 from 3, which would be good for fourth all-time for seniors and tied for eighth overall. His .917 from the FT line would be second all-time for a season. He needs to reach 50 attempts to make either list, and he's currently on pace to do so for 3-pointers but not FTs. Francis Okoro is currently .527 from the field, a little short of the junior FG% top ten. His .773 FT% is also a bit shy of the .803 needed for junior FT%. He's also on pace to be short of the total rebounding and rebounding average lists. However, he has 16 blocks through 11 games and only needs to reach 27 blocks to tie Kenny Brown for tenth among juniors. Fred Thatch is .560 from the field, which would be tied with Anthony Bonner for fifth all time among juniors. He has 14 steals and needs to reach 45 (Anthony Drejaj) to reach the junior top ten, so he's very close to the pace he needs. Rashad Williams is shooting .375 from 3, just shy of where he needs to be (.385) to tie Lisch and Davell Roby for ninth for juniors. He needs to get to 50 attempts, too. Brandon Courtney is not in the mix for any junior records. Yuri Collins now has 374 career assists and is seventh all-time. The next guy to pass is LaTodd Johnson (400). He owns the freshman assist record (171) and his 116 in a shortened season last year are fifth among sophomores. The sophomore record is 142 (Johnson), a mark he should pass easily this season, as he already has 87. His 19 assists vs. BC gave him the all-time single game record, passing Jim Roder's 18. He has 24 steals this season and needs to reach 39 to tie Jordair Jett for tenth for sophomores. His FT% of .784 is currently tenth for sophomores. Terrence Hargrove is shooting .423 from three, which is on pace to be third place among sophomores. He has 6 blocks and needs to get to 19 to tie Tommie Liddell and Matt Baniak on the sophomore top ten list. Gibson Jimerson is averaging 16.7 PPG in his third freshman season, which would put him second behind only Larry Hughes for freshman scoring average. He's also on pace to finish second behind Hughes (670) in total points. He's already second in freshman three-point field goal percentage at .429, which is also good for eighth on the all-class list, and his .407 clip this year would be good for fifth on the freshman list. His 37 three-pointers last season tied him with Anthony Drejaj and Marcus Bartley for ninth among freshmen and he already has 24 this season. His .875 FT% would be a freshman record and fifth overall for a season. Jordan Nesbitt is averaging 9.5 PPG, a little outside the freshman top ten; he needs to reach 11.0 PPG to tie Kwamain Mitchell. He has 105 points and needs 321 to tie Lisch and Milik Yarbrough for ninth among freshmen. His rebounding numbers (5.1 RPG, 51 total) are also just shy of the pace he needs (5.6 RPG, 162) for the class top ten, as well. His .368 3P% is barely behind Scott Highmark's tenth place mark of .369. He has 12 steals and needs to hit 33 (Carlos McCauley) for 10th. Lassina Traore has a FG% of .722, which would be an all-class record for a season if he reached 100 attempts. But he stands at 18, well off pace. He would also need to play a lot more to be in the mix for any rebounding marks. Markhi Strickland is currently .571 from the field, which would be good for fourth all-time among freshman, but he has the same issue as Traore - 14 FGA. Andre Lorentsson is a perfect 1.000 from the field in only three field goal attempts. Javonte Perkins is out for the season. After two seasons at SLU, he is tied for 10th all time in scoring average (15.9) with Bill Morris. He has 825 career points and will easily make it into the 1,000-point club if he returns next season. His .866 FT% last season is good for sixth all time in a season and fourth for seniors.

  8. Just wanted to point out that Auburn is now ranked #13. The last two times we’ve played a ranked team at home, they were ranked #13 (Seton Hall and Dayton, 2019-20). Third times a charm?

  11. Nesbitt is really going to have to lock in mentally. I think sometimes he loses the plot for a split second transitioning from offense to defense.

  15. I generally don’t like speculating about who might transfer. We know odds are someone will, but it feels a little slimy. Non-transfer speculation that could open up a spot - what if Fred Thatch decides to just call it a career? He’ll have been around 4 years after this season. He already graduated at the end of last season. I think he’s working on his MBA now. If he finishes that, maybe he decides to start his career instead of playing out his remaining 2 years of eligibility.

  17. I understand the desire of a coach like Travis to shorten the game by eating the clock when you have the lead late. You just can’t completely abandon what has gotten you the lead in the first place. Travis’s teams have done exactly that way too often. That would be my only real complaint from yesterday. Overall a really strong performance from the players and the staff.

  19. stopping us from running is indeed inevitable. but that doesnt mean we have to walk the ball down the floor. run the stupid vanilla shuffle and reduce our opportunities. we should try to be the agressors all the time. we are athletic and it is beyond short sighted to eliminate that attribute.

  20. yuri was the difference. he played like the all star point guard he is supposed to be. he did not try to score when there was nothing there and be the man. instead he took opportunities when they were there otherwise pushed tempo created advantages and made the passes he has become beloved for. this is the yuri we need ALL THE TIME. okoro starting to show he is the middle and rightful heir to the french connection. he was splendid. jimmmerson continues to be a star scorer. i love watching this guy shoot. with nesbit, we saw tidbits of what i consider the best candidate to be the man. i believe once he adjusts to this higher level of play and changes his midset to the college level he is a star. the two guys that need to continue to get better are hargrove and thatch. we need to see these two guys in a battle for that 5th spot. both are inconsistent imo. one play you think they are fabulous the next time down the floor you are wondering why they are in the game. no doubt they have worthy talent though overall keep pushing the pace. both ends of the floor and for god's sake, rebound.

  24. This thread is going just as I thought it would. Y'all are really something. While I'm as sick of this pandemic as anyone, I'll gladly show my vaccine card and wear a mask for the privilege of watching my beloved Billikens in-person. Yes, the policies are probably a bit of theater, but at the end of the day, I'm fine with complying and hope the measures do add some provided safety for everyone. But that's just me.

  27. -I'm trying to not be cynical but the "moving" quadrant system makes no sense, to me the quadrant ranking should be locked as of the day of the game (or for the first part of the schedule I will defer to The Wiz and say the first 8 games get locked after all teams have played 8 D1 games) but it seems to help the P5/6 on Selection Sunday to make it move as the dregs of their conferences will have their best ranking at the end of the season by playing tough conference schedules even if they get whacked -we beat Boise St which seems like a good road win but if they get 4 guys hurt and go in the crapper the quaility of that win is decreased by events that had no impact on the game when it was played

  29. VTech is overrated at this point. Watched then lose by 19 at home to Wake. They’ve got Keve Aluma and a bunch of role players. Still a good win for Dayton but I’m expecting Tech to drop considerably before the year is out.

  32. With our 3 recruits coming in next year, all being in the SG/SF (#2 & #3), I would be shocked to see MS stick around. Also, the only thing holding Williams back from leaving is that he would likely not be approved for a waiver again, after getting one this year. We still need a back up PG unless Nesbitt is that guy-losing Jones (or Kerr as he was called yesterday) leaves us with a big hole in the lineup. Maybe a grad student out of the transfer portal can be found.

  33. I think that Thatch just cannot play over 20 min per game with games every 3 or 4 days without losing effectiveness. Fortunately, there will be a 7 day interval between the BC game and the Auburn game. I think this will allow him to recover sufficiently to be able to play better against Auburn, even if he has to play over 20 min in that game. This is my opinion.
