  1. Thanks for the updates and the breakdown. The women's soccer team is probably the strongest program at SLU right now. I want to stay up on them as much as possible, which is made easier by posters like you contributing.

  3. Update through the full 21-game season, unfortunately shortened for multiple reasons. I've compiled this under the assumption that Goodwin and French will not return but that everyone else will. Jordan Goodwin finished his career with 1,460 points, which is 11th all-time. He just passed Dick Boushka (1,448). His career scoring average of 12.8 isn't enough to make the top 20, nor were any of his season scoring marks. He finished with 998 career rebounds, good for fourth all-time. It's disappointing he couldn't come up with two more or just get one more game to reach the 1,000 mark; he would've been the third member of the 1,000-1,000 club with Anthony Bonner and Jim McLaughlin. His senior season average of 10.1 rebounds is eighth on the senior class list, but the shortened season kept him off the total rebounds list for a season. The shortened season also kept him off the senior lists for assists and steals, too. He finished with 404 career assists, which is fifth all time, having just passed LaTodd Johnson (400). His 225 steals are a program record. He finished third in career MPG (34.3), right behind Tommie Liddell (34.4). He ended up with 3,907 total minutes played, good for seventh all time despite having three of his four seasons cut off early. He started 113 games, tied with Virgel Cobbin and Kevin Lisch for tenth, and would've challenged Bonner's record of 130 had he played full schedules each year. He only played 114 games, short of the 128 needed to make the top ten list. Hasahn French finished his career with 1,178 points, good for 21st in program history. He recently passed Davell Roby (1,160), Brian Conklin (1,161), and Jim McLaughlin (1,178). He is the program's all-time blocked shots leader, with 228. French has the first, fourth, and sixth (tie) place marks in the all-class top 10 for blocks. The shortened season kept him off the senior class list by 1 (had 26, needed 27). He finished his career averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, just short of the top ten. With 982 total rebounds, French finished fifth in SLU history, just behind Goodwin. He started 116 games, which is eighth all time. Javonte Perkins finished a little outside the senior scoring records. He is tied with Bill Morris for tenth on the career scoring average list, with 15.9 PPG. His 32-point performance vs. LSU was the 76th time in program history someone scored 30 or more in a game; he now has two of them. His .866 percentage from the free throw line is fourth for seniors and sixth overall in a season. Joshua Hightower didn't make any lists. Marten Linssen finished with a field goal percentage of .646, which would be a season record for any class, but he fell short of the 100 minimum attempts. His free throw percentage of .800 finished just outside the junior top 10, and he was also 10 attempts short of the 50-FT minimum. Demarius Jacobs finished outside the junior percentage lists after falling off his early season averages and coming up short on attempts due to the short season. Brandon Courtney didn't compete for any junior records. Fred Thatch was .824 from the FT line, which would be third all-time for sophomores if he had gotten to 50 attempts. Yuri Collins had 116 assists this season, good for fifth on the sophomore top ten list. Terrence Hargrove finished .424 from three, which would have been third place among sophomores if he had reached 50 attempts. Jimmy Bell was .538 from the field, which would be fourth among sophomores if he had gotten to 100 attempts. Gibson Jimerson is grouped with the freshmen despite already being second in freshman three-point field goal percentage at .429, which is also good for eighth on the all-class list. This season, he finished at .394 from three, which is sixth for freshmen. He had 37 three-pointers this season, tied with Anthony Drejaj and Marcus Bartley for ninth among freshmen. He would've been second in FT percentage at .833 but was well short of the 50 minimum attempts. Markhi Strickland did not qualify for any freshman class records. Andre Lorentsson did not qualify for any freshman class records. Phillip Russell did not qualify for any freshman class records.

  7. I think you know Yuri was hurt in the RI game, He was never the same after that. Before Injury 11 games 77 assists against 21 turnovers for and average of 7/1.9 After he came back clearly playing injured 7 games 39 assists vs 20 turnovers so 5.6/2.85 Steals after .85 pg before 1.5 I'll also agree he wasn't as good defensively the last 7 games. I think the injury played a role. You apparently do not. You're point about Yuri's assists not being that much better than the guy 40 places down would also be true with say JGood he avg'd. 10.1 rbpg for 16th. But heck is that really better than the guy at 75th? at 8.1? It only makes the difference of about 1 point per possession so 2 pts per game. How about Perkins 3 pt% he shot .376 what's really the difference between that and 30%? How about 1.2 ppg so really what's the big deal between 30 and 38%? Your statement. "I will take a PG with only 3 assists per game if he helps defensively, scores 8 to 10 ppg and can make steals and disruptions per game" However, really before or after the injury is irrelevant as the statement above describes what you want in a pg. Which is not want I want in a pg so we'll never agree. I'd also like to see Yuri increase his offense to be what I'd call elite he needs to. However, if he never scores more than he does now I'll take a healthy version of today's Yuri Collins over the guy you describe above

  8. I hate to say it but Baylor is for real too. Post COVID they had an issue but they're firing on all cylinders again now. Check out Houston, love him or hate him Sampson fields some good teams.

  9. The RM team, which Crews got for 2 years got in the NCAA's 3 years in a row and got to the field of 32 each of those years. Best team IMO. Next best the Spoon teams of 1994 and 95 that got to the NCAA's twice and advanced to the field of 32 one of those years in a tougher league than the A10. This team ..... a strong third.

  10. One of the greatest point guards in UNLV history was a 5'11 point guard named Mark Wade who had a career average of 3.6 ppg in a Rebel uniform. He also had a career average of 8.5 apg. The reason he was so effective is because he played alongside one of the greatest shooting guards in UNLV history, a 6'2 guard named Freddie Banks. Banks was very good from the three point line and the free throw line and could create his own shot with ease. Even if the original fast break wasn't there, Wade could hit Banks on the secondary break and Banks could quickly break down his defender. We need to find a Freddie Banks type player to pair with our historic point guard, who will hold the all-time assists record by a significant margin when his career is done. It's called a backcourt for a reason. The backcourt isn't just one 5'11 point guard pushing the ball.

  15. Re: Courtside who I happen to enjoy as a poster. He's clearly a Marquette fan and has plenty of knowledge about the school and their athletics. So what. He didn't talk Marquette until Shaka going there was the talk in the thread. It was a thread about coaching changes so yes he chimed in. He didn't start threads regarding Marquette nor did he even lead the conversation there with no reason. I don't remember the last time he discussed Marquette on the board. When we played them all the time he chimed in regarding them more often and it apparently still rubs some wrong.

  16. Set piece from Stram, keeper misplays it, gives up rebound, knocked out to Stram, blasts it and redirected by Groark. 4-0 Final. SLU dominated the first matchup but couldn’t score until late OT. Had 40 plus shots first game with Bonnies. Early and often scoring seemed to be in the cards today. 4 goals off of set pieces.

  18. 82 points per game pre covid with 73 possessions per game. 69 points post covid with 66 possessions per game. 1.15 points per possession when we played fast. 1.04 points per possession when we slowed down. Bully ball is an effing joke. Play fast. Win. Competition was better post covid for the most part but we have a team of athletes and a few good shooters and we slowed down and tried to let undersized guys bully their way into big men. Covid zapped our energy but man our change in philosophy to bully ball tanked the season. Maybe we couldn't run as much post covid but we didn't have the legs for bully ball either. Hopefully next year we run when the offense doesn't go through Goodwin and French. Until then or until some sort of off-season news actually happens, I need a break from this board.

  20. Update through 18 games, the full regular season, below. We have anywhere from 1 to 9 games left. The bottom line is that if we played a full season, a lot more top 10 lists would see some changes. As it stands: Jordan Goodwin has 261 points this season and 1,417 total points, having just passed Easy Ed Macauley (1,402) for 12th place all-time. Since the last update, he also passed Luther Burden (1,349), Marque Perry (1,358), and Joe Wiley (1,368). He needs 76 points to reach 1,493 (Harry Rogers) to make the top 10, and 31 points to take 11th place from Dick Boushka. His scoring average of 14.5 won't be a factor in the senior class (Lewis McKinney is 10th at 19.1) and we didn't play a long enough season for him to chase the 553 points needed to tie Roland Gray for 10th. His current average of 10.3 rebounds would tie him with Eugene Moore in 7th place among seniors, and barring a Final Four run, he won't make the top 10 in total rebounds, needing 246 to tie Rich Naes (he has 174). He has 971 career rebounds, which is 4th all-time, and he and French (956) are not likely to reach Jim McLaughlin's third place total of 1,128. He has 68 assists this season and will not get to 120 to tie Darryl Lenard for 10th for seniors. He is in the all-time top 10 for assists, now with 391, which is 6th. He has 32 steals so far this season and needs to reach 49 to join Chris Sloan, Justin Love, and Darryl Lenard in 10th for seniors. He owns the all-time steals record, now with 214. He is currently third in career MPG (34.2), right behind Tommie Liddell (34.4). He has 3,796 total minutes played, which is 7th all time, and he needs to get to 3,939 to catch Kwamain Mitchell for 6th. Hasahn French has 1,149 career points, currently 25th all-time. He recently passed Virgel Cobbin (1,107), Jack Mimlitz (1,118), and Bob Ferry (1,128), and Davell Roby (1,160) is next. He is the program's all-time blocked shots leader, with 222. With 77 blocks last season, he broke Willie Reed's all-class season mark of 73. French now has the 1st, 4th, and 6th (tie) place marks in the all-class top 10. He has 20 so far this season and needs 27 to make the senior class top 10 and 68 to break Kelvin Henderson's class record. He has 114 rebounds (7.1 per game), needing 246 rebounds this season to tie Naes for 10th and an average of 9.3 RPG to tie Jerry Koch in rebounding average, and he is unlikely to catch either. With 956 total rebounds, French is now 5th all-time on the career list, having just passed Dwayne Evans (942). Goodwin is just ahead of him (971) but adding to his total, and neither are likely to reach Jim McLaughlin (1,128) for third. His field goal percentage of .545 would be just outside tenth place, held by Kenny Brown (.552). He has 3,415 total minutes and needs 3,616 to tie Dwayne Evans for tenth place (Erwin Claggett and his 3,538 have dropped from the top ten due to Goodwin passing him). Javonte Perkins has 304 points through 18 games and needs to reach 553 to tie Roland Gray for 10th among seniors (567 gets him on the all-class list, tied in 10th with Bob Ferry). His 16.9 average would be outside the senior top 10 and the all-class top 10 (Bonner averaged 19.8 in 1989-1990). He is tied with Jim Irving at 11th on the career scoring average list, with 15.7 PPG. His 32-point performance vs. LSU was the 76th time in program history someone scored 30 or more in a game; he now has two of them. His .464 field goal percentage would be a bit short of the top 10 for seniors. He has 36 three-pointers and needs 56 to tie Roby and Gray in 10th on the senior class list. His .419 three-point percentage would be just short of tenth overall in a season and tied with Claggett for sixth among seniors. His .868 percentage from the free throw line would be fourth for seniors and sixth overall in a season. Joshua Hightower won't compete for any senior records. Marten Linssen has a field goal percentage of .673, which would be a season record for any class, but right now he has 55 FGA and needs 100. His free throw percentage of .774 would be outside the junior top 10. Demarius Jacobs would finish outside the junior top ten in three-point percentage (needing .384, currently .344) and also needs 50 attempts (he has 32). His FT percentage of .781 is currently short of 10th for juniors (H Waldman, .805). Brandon Courtney won't compete for any junior records. Fred Thatch is .833 from the FT line, which would be second all-time for sophomores if he can get to 50 attempts (he has 30). Yuri Collins needs to reach 102 assists to tie Monroe Douglass in 10th for sophomores and currently has 97. He's averaging 6.1 per game and could still take the all-time sophomore record (142) from LaTodd Johnson despite the shortened season if SLU goes on a run. He has 21 steals and needs 39 to tie Jett for 10th among sophomores. Terrence Hargrove is .423 from three, which would finish third place among sophomores if he can get to 50 attempts (has 26). Jimmy Bell is .542 from the field, which would be fourth among sophomores. He has 24 FGA, though, and needs 100. Gibson Jimerson is grouped with the freshmen despite already being second in freshman three-point field goal percentage at .429, which is also god for eighth on the all-class list. His scoring average of 8.6 would be shy of the freshman class list. His three-point percentage of .386 would be 7th among freshmen. Markhi Strickland is currently not in play for any freshman class records. Andre Lorentsson is currently not in play for any freshman class records. Phillip Russell is currently not in play for any freshman class records.

  22. I know that Yuri was hurt this year. I know he was hurt last year too. I know he was slowed by Covid too. Injuries are part of the game and even more reason to have depth at PG. When healthy, Yuri is better and our team is better. Even healthy, though, we need more from the position. I hope Yuri can do it. I am pulling for him. Yuri is not a “pass first” PG bc he sees the floor better and passes better than “combo guards” such as Kwamain Mitchell and Mike McCall but bc he lacks their offensive skill. He is “pass first” mostly by default. Glad he is on our team, play him but we need more help and depth at the position. And unlike the stats you list, every point guard in the country would have more assists if they shot less and passed more. Easy to increase assist numbers and assist percentages as opposed to increasing made shots or made shot percentages. If more PG assists led to more wins, every team would do this. Instead, the opposite is true - and has been since the 1980’s. Scoring from the PG position helps the team more. A PG who can shoot the 3, opens the lane for the other 4 and helps the team win. And a PG who can dribble penetrate and score as well as pass helps the team with scoring, by drawing fouls and gives higher percentage shots to the other 4 - all which help the team win. I don’t see any correlation between PG assists and winning and again suggest there is no correlation other than what you have been peddling. Compared to JGood playing the PG, Yuri is a wizard. But because he has no offensive game, no one bothers to even guard him, he makes us predictable and he makes things harder on the other 4, his skill set makes our margins more difficult to win. And we haven’t even got to defense, steals and rebounds. Going forward, I want a point guard who can defend and score as well as run the offense. Call him what you want - a combo guard or a 2021 PG. We have room for both him and Yuri.
