I thought it was interesting that everyone and I mean everyone only shot 3s during warmups. Zero mid range jumpers. Swope was consistently hitting from NBA.

We saw Indiana state shot charts last season with zero mid range jumpers.  All threes or at the hoop seems to be Schertz’s preference.

I tried the link to the women’s interviews, and it pulled up some poll results about the death penalty. Some professor has been working too hard! 😁

😅 Sorry about that.  Links should be fixed (as I am at the office working on another project).

I’m once again asking about strength and conditioning coaching.

Is it still led by the guy with a massive beer belly?  Not surprised if that is the case.

Yeah did CJS change out the team or retain the old crew?

Good event to run for game simulation with a little extra juice of having a live crowd.

Evolution of CJS needs to include building quality depth, better defense and scheduling.  Good NIL+ on court success can help build the depth which helps with defense and being a winning program will help scheduling. Easy.

I saw that text from Stu.  Pretty funny.  We have 4 players who shot over 33% from the arc, 50 shots min, last season. (Avila, Swope, Jimerson, and Hughes.) ISU had six players in that category last year, and Schertz had 5 on the floor the vast majority of the time.

Should be most prolific 3-point shooting team since Highmark, Claggett and Waldman, each hovered near the 40% average.

Thames only took 36 threes, but made 13 ..... 36.1%.  I like Thames's chance at playing significant minutes.  He can shoot, and boy, can the young man attack the basket.  If he can hit the 3 consistently, he is a great fit in Schertz's offense.

Agreed, Schertz should know how to get the most out of Thames. Pretty ideal player for his system.

additionally, I expect Kobe, Casey, and Anya to all exceed their previous averages in 3pt attempts and percentage.  All three demonstrated a smooth stroke in warmups and the scrimmage, and it seems like every player on the floor has a green light to shoot from outside.  Should be an exciting offense to watch- Ball movement, slashing, threes.

I would have more confidence in that 36% if he had shot more than 55% from the free throw line. Hopefully it all comes together  for him.

I'm with you on this, and my money is on AJ Casey to show the most improvement.  He was a 4% (yes four) three point shooter at Miami, 1 of 22 in his two seasons.  He made his sole three pointer his first season at Miami.  He was 0-12 last season.  If he hits two out of 20 this year, he will double his shooting average.  😀

No one else will top that improvement!

The midrange game is just going to become less and less of factor unless they widen the court. Majerus was talking about this two decades ago. I don’t see widening of the court happening.  You just can’t create enough space to make mid range shots high percentage enough given the current court width and the length of players today.

What Avila is saying at this time is basically proof that he really wants to play when the season starts. How much he is improving and how much actual healing he has had so far will not be evident until he does play in a real game. The fact that he could not lift his foot when the injury happened is not good. Please keep in mind that walking around without a boot is not the same as playing competitive D1 basketball.

Another possibility is he was just saying that his first concern was whether he had ruptured his achilles tendon.  I tore mine playing basketball.  The test some doctors use for a ruptured achilles tendon is whether you can lift the foot.  If the achilles tendon is completely torn, you can't.  Inasmuch as he's not a doctor, I'm not sure I'd put too much weight on what he said about his worst fear.  I think all of us who have played sports can remember an injury where our first fear was much worse than the injury turned out to be.  Let's hope that's the case for Avila as well.

I hope Avila recovers fully from this injury, whatever it was. We know that the scan did not show anything major and that he did not require surgery, both very favorable things. However, we need to wait for the season to start in order to determine how he plays.
