I don't think playing it safe is a winning strategy. With the Schertz offense, it is super important that each player makes the right read and takes the right action. It's especially important that the guy with the ball knows what each player is going to do next. This being year one with so many new players to the system, every minute of playing time is important to the success if the team moving forward. billiken_roy 1 Quote

Coach Schertz agrees with you, or should I say, you agree with Coach Schertz. Last Sunday on KMOX here is what he said; You can't bubble wrap these guys and keep them on the shelf. If you are worried about injuries, you are more apt to get hurt. You have to build body armor in preseason practices and exhibitions. Aquinas 1 Quote

This is his second foot/ankle injury since coming here. I see no point in risking him against games that mean nothing. He is very important to the success of the season. According to Schertz he never said he would not keep a player out of a meaningless game to not aggravate an injury. What he said he would not keep them out of practice - a completely different situation. Prudence is not a fault. Quote
slufanskip Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 If he’s fully healthy you play him. Period. There is no other correct answer. If he’s not fully healthy and limited in practice then you don’t play him. The posters that complained when Perkins got hurt, saying he shouldn’t have been in the game. Idiotic. A player can get hurt in a game, a practice, playing a pick-up game. Injuries happen. If you’re healthy you play cgeldmacher and HoosierPal 2 Quote

There are players who have managed to play for decades at the high school level, college and pros without suffering a serious injury. They've played for numerous coaches. They've literally played thousands of games, including pick up games and charity games against random guys looking to make a name for themselves. There is no magic formula for avoiding injury. A lot of this stuff is just luck. Quote

Your point is especially true when considering our poor schedule. We cannot afford a stumble early to one of these no name teams, or we will never recover in the eyes of the Committee. We need to be firing on all cylinders and playing with some chemistry by day one of the season. Quote

I agree with you, but I'm also referring to most of our non-conference games. We cannot afford to lose any more than one or two. Quote
