Lord Elrond Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Is that Zak Boisvert running team Blue? Dude sure gets animated on the sidelines, but in an enthusiastic way. Quote

Popular Post The Wiz Posted July 23 Popular Post Posted July 23 Some takeaways from the practice... Nice coverage by @SluSignGuy ...especially the videos. Bills win by 15....53-38........53 pts in a 24 min game is impressive even in a practice.....That translates into a scoring rate of 88 pts in a full game. Because the players mixed and matched every period the 53 pts didn't even represent our best starting line up. Everyone played at a high level...We could easily go with a 10 man lineup...in other words depth....and remember we are missing 2 big men...both in the European tourney. The bold statement....We are a better team now in the first practice in July than we were in the last practice before the 1st game last October. The returnees ...Jimerson, Thames and Hughes are all better players in this system...a faster moving offense with many moving pieces going inside and out. There is no one player that the opposition will be able to focus on. Everyone can pass and score. New individual players... Coming in as advertised...Swope and Avila....all hype is deserved...Swope is the smallest and fastest player ...can shoot lights out...will be a deadly combo with Jimerson....Avila can do it all ...great shooter and passer.... I saw him come onto the floor before the practice started and pick up a ball at half court and sink it with no warm up. Nice surprises...Casey, Dotzler, Johnson and Anya. The first 3 coming from Miami, Creighton and WVU, you would expect to have some potential but Anya from Brown was looking good too. All will be key pieces this season. Most upside....McCottry ...Just a freshman but looks like he belongs...has the tools... will get minutes. Bottom line.... As Larry David from Curb would say...Looking pretty , pretty good. It will be hard to pick out the 6 reindeer (6 best players) for this year's Xmas poem. The team has some rough edges but with 3 more months of practice, once the season starts this team will be hard to beat. One last thing...after the practice, players signed autographs, took pictures and talked to the fans...There were all very personable...it was a nice touch. slu72 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 High praise indeed coming from our most objective observer, THE WIZ! Still, after the 22-23 letdown I will tamp down my expectations. Show Me time is right around the corner. Go Bills! cgeldmacher and NextYearBill 2 Quote

Scoop Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I attended with a friend who is also a season ticket holder. I chuckled when he leaned over and said, “If we played defense like this, we would have won 6 more games last year.” They got after it last night. Fun night. This is gonna be a fun year. Go Bills. billiken_roy Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Take for what it's we worth after one pràctice view: Avila, Anya, Swopes, Jimerson, and Johnson. Hughes, Thames and Casey double digit minutes. Very fun night with nothing but positive vibes! SLU_Nick, TheChosenOne, Adman and 3 others 6 Quote

The point of my post at this time of the season was not to forecast the 6 but to point out there were many candidates for those positions (I noted who I liked in my post) Again the key factor was not to find the 6 but to show we have good depth going into the season....and again this was without the 2 Euro players...check this space on Xmas eve for a final answer. @slu72...I understand your cautious attitude going into the season. This feels to me like the beginning of the Majerus season...great optimism....great talent. But as we learned in that 1st season...things can go wrong (situation 1) as Majerus finished below .500 for the first and only time in his career. But by the 2nd season we were Dancing and ranked. The moral is quality (good coaching and good players) always rises to the top. I remain optimistic....in Schertz we trust. Quote
Old guy Posted July 23 Posted July 23 It was reported that Chaifetz was not present at the first open practice. I have no idea whether or not he had been present in prior open practices but given the fact that this was the first real opportunity to see what Schertz was doing with our new team (and new it is with only 3 returning players), I wonder what is attracting his attention nowadays. Running a multiple multi million dollar companies and the ability to attend any practice you want. Good reports. It's only July and we can see a system taking shape. That bodes well because it's tough with so many new parts. But most teams are also having this issue. Good crowd, good effort to bring in fans. Bills By 40 1 Quote
