Linssen has been dynamite at home and a non-factor on the road due to foul problems, with the La Salle game being the most recent example. Old guy Posted February 9, 2022 Share Posted February 9, 2022 Last year was a different season, one which we based our play upon French and Goodwin. This year, after the loss of Perkins SLU had to develop, by necessity, what is probably a more flexible play style which uses more of the bench for significant amounts of time than we used to give them in the past. This year, it is likely that the team with the less flexible play style will be St. Bona. We have yet to see if this does the trick or not. These are not the traditional moves as exhibited by Oduro and Moore that lead to personal fouls. You don’t have to cover Osunniyi until he hits the restricted arc. Just like Holmes of Dayton. But absent winning the A10 Tourney, per a pure following of the NET (there are annually about 3 variances), a NET of 49 would have SLU as the first team OUT of the NCAA and the Top Seed overall in the NIT. Of course, we don't want that. There has been progress, even overnight, as SLU's NET improved from 51, #2 in the NIT, to 49. The NCAA At Larges cut off at 48 Florida. I still question if the NCAA would actually give the 21st of 32 conferences ranked Ohio Valley Conference 2 NCAA teams, the WCC 4 and the Mountain West 4. There are also 3 10 loss teams in the NCAA field- 39 Oklahoma, 43 Virginia Tech, and 44 Utah State. Plus, both OVC contenders, 26 Murray State and 45 Belmont are leaving the OVC for the MVC, changing Valleys. The Last 4 IN would be 45 Belmont, 46 BYU, 47 Michigan, and 48 Florida. Losing a bunch of those games we lost hurts now especially since we are on the bubble along with some of the teams who beat us. No disputing that. At the same time, who expected us to actually BE on the bubble when Perkins went down? Even though they won at Chaifetz, I don't think we should be behind them. If you go with that line of thinking we should be ahead of Boise St, but we aren't because Boise has a better overall resume. There is no way to alter the outcomes in these games. We are, still, a good team which is not generally accepted to be as good as we really are, or can be.
