mrjoelabs Posted March 22 Posted March 22 We just watched the worst first round in march madness history. Chalk all over and no real upset shockers outside of Mcneese. And that was just clemson sucking. Col State was favored, Drake should've been and St. Marys was a higher seed. New Mexico I guess you can argue but they aren't a real cinderella. This was Chalk all over and blowouts all over. Hardly any great finishes. The committee has to stop seeding the good mid majors in ways to knock them out. Friday was barely even watchable. No madness this year. Quote

almaman Posted March 22 Posted March 22 much as I luv upsets when all the favorites win it makes for a more competitive second round. Quote
HoosierPal Posted March 22 Posted March 22 First Round Results by Conference, including First Four games: Big 10 8-0 Big 12 6-1 Big East 4-2 SEC 8-6 (Including 1-5 for the conference bottom dwellers) ACC 2-3 MW 2-2 WCC 2-0 Not all that impressive for SEC and ACC. NCAA Committee won't figure it out, ever. Quote

The totals shown also include Texas L and Xavier W in their First Four game. Those games are part of the NCAA Tourney so I counted them. Quote
Old guy Posted March 22 Posted March 22 My wife is watching the sweet 16 game between Purdue and McNeese, and who comes out to play for McNeese? No other than Sincere Parker! I was happy to see him playing again. McNeese is headed for a significant defeat but watching Parker play was very nice. All the best to you Sincere! David King and almaman 2 Quote

thetorch Posted March 23 Posted March 23 This is insane. The SEC played no one. How do their NET ratings get so high if they beat no one in their non con? And how can they tell mid majors to schedule better when they don't have to. BrettJollyComedyHour, MusicCityBilliken and ACE 3 Quote

And how can they tell mid majors to schedule better when they don't have to. Because while the SOS is low they racked up wins: according to this reddit post (I did not verify all records): Auburn: 12-1 Florida: 13-0 Alabama: 11-2 Tennessee: 13-0 Ole Miss: 11-2 Texas A&M: 11-2 Kentucky: 11-2 Missouri: 11-2 MS State: 12-1 Vanderbilt: 12-1 Georgia: 12-1 Arkansas: 11-2 Texas: 11-2 Oklahoma: 13-0 LSU: 11-2 South Carolina: 10-3. The non-conference winning % is 89%. "Mid-majors" will need to find a way to schedule better. The MWC did. I think one of the best things the A10 did was the effort to get their top teams playing each other to get more quality games when they schedule. "Mid-major" Conferences could start a similar scheduling agreement with each other for games vs quality opponents. For instance A10 & WCC enters an agreement that the top 4-5 teams keep dates open for home/away games. That could mean games vs St. Mary's, Zags, USF, Santa Clara & Oregon St. Or MWC vs UNM, CSU, USU, Boise St, & SDSU. SLU did try scheduling like I suggested with some sneaky good choices Santa Clara, USF, Wofford, GCU, and Wichita State. They won 0 of the games. Then didn't win enough in conference either. Just for reference kenpom VCU noncon SOS 293, LUC 334, GMU 318, UD 55, SLU 185. Need to win the games. Quote

They were given the equivalent of a 3rd grade participation trophy. Billikenbooster and HoosierPal 2 Quote
