ACE Posted November 7 Posted November 7 He was on 101 for over an hour. It was outstanding. And for anyone who complains about our schedule, please listen to the interview to understand what it is going on throughout college basketball scheduling - and how things have really changed in the last few years. It's not a SLU problem, a Ford problem or a Schertz problem. It's much bigger than that. Unfortunately, this is the life of the mid-major in 2024. HoosierPal, CenHudDude and Billikenbooster 3 Quote

Looking at shoes, braces, adjustments, etc. to help minimize a future issue. Didn't say much about Johnson except he should be back soon. Interesting, Schertz asked his ISU starters after the MVC tourney if they all wanted to come back. He said he would have stayed with them in Terre Haute. A couple wanted to see what was out there, and we know what resulted. The Schedule discussion mentioned by @ACEstarts at about 30 min in. Definitely worth listening. Mentioned again the upcoming high level MTE next season. Team has to be a Q1 game before they will get the P4 teams agreeing to schedule. Jimerson - been there since the Ford Administration. HoosierPal Posted November 24 Author Posted November 24 KMOX Sports on a Sunday Morning, Nov 24 Coach Schertz repeated a lot of what he already said about Wichita State game. (See Timmermann's and Durando's coverage.) Pleased with the control in the first half, down 3 at half even 3-14 from 3. Good teams buckle down when they aren't shooting well. Came out second half, a few good looks that didn't go down, then we 'got sad', and it went the other way. Didn't have a collective purposeful response to adversity. No court practice yesterday - just a long film session and discussion on what we want to be moving forward. We just can't lose this way, you can't give in when things get hard. You can control how you compete and how connected you are as a team. These two things don't require talent, just effort. This game can be a springboard for growth. You can't transfer in culture. Lincoln had a good culture. First year at Indiana State, they had games like this. They developed the culture with the seeds planted in the first year, 11-20 at ISU. Have to refocus on our standards and everyone understanding those standards and what the consequences are for not playing up to standards. Avila making process. Did some 3 on 3 in half court yesterday. Did some work last night with walk on's. Will try to practice today, first time in 20 days with 5 on 5. Can't say if he will play tomorrow, or Wednesday. Trending towards coming back to court. Make a decision tomorrow. Dotzler done. (Nothing on Casey.) Link will be available later today. billikenbill, Zink, TheChosenOne and 1 other 4 Quote

I always thought that was an area the Ford fell down on - holding people accountable. He would say things like we have to get better and so and so has to play harder but there never seem to be anyone held accountable. laker119 1 Quote
HoosierPal Posted November 24 Author Posted November 24 Link from this morning's conversation between Ackerman and Schertz: https://www.audacy.com/podcast/sports-on-a-sunday-morning-2f4a4/episodes/billikens-struggles-and-lessons-coach-josh-schertz-on-wichita-state-loss-344b2 Also, if you haven't subscribed to Stu's newsletter, you need to. Today he tied together some of Schertz's comments to come up with an interesting perspective on the team. It is not be a surprise....but needed to be said. For the price on one Starbucks coffee or one beer per month, you can gain an insight as to what is happening with the Bills. billikenbill 1 Quote
HoosierPal Posted Sunday at 04:48 PM Author Posted Sunday at 04:48 PM KMOX Sports on a Sunday Morning, Dec 1, Schertz and Ackerman Reviewed last two games. Q game was the most complete game of the year. UM-L, we came out sharp offensively. Defense wasn't great. Second half defense was poor. With 12 to play, lead was 21. We lost sense of urgency. They finished game 8-8 on Three's. Could have been 10-10, but foot on line and clock ran out. Have to close out with stops. Have a lot to learn. Have to make strides on closing out games. Team's level raises when Avila is on floor. Avila will take another week or two to get back into rhythm. He makes everyone around him better. He simplifies game for teammates. Swope has to do less with Robbie on the floor. In the middle of three full team practices, which are the first three for Avila in more than a month. Thames could be our 'Kent'. He has good cutting instincts. Anya has to figure out the cutting piece. Moving and cutting without the ball is inherently unnatural. Kent was the best cutter in the country last season. Cutter has to know where the gaps, what the drives are and what the defense is doing takes work. Johnson sees the game well, but needs to be instinctive. No one likely will be as good a cutter as Kent last season. Team Thanksgiving meal at Union Station, thanks to O'Loughlin. Practiced on Friday. billikenbill Posted Monday at 01:16 AM Posted Monday at 01:16 AM Update on Thames from Stu’s site. He didn’t practice Friday or Saturday and was limited today. Wore “sweat patches” today to monitor how much sodium he is losing. Will not start vs. Jackson State and if he plays, he’ll be limited to 2-3 min. segments. Apparently, this is an ongoing problem which affected him some last year. The medical staff continues to work up the problem as it’s not as simple as how much and what to eat and drink. Sounds to me like this will be an ongoing problem this year. Quote
Old guy Posted Monday at 02:05 AM Posted Monday at 02:05 AM The medical workup will take time. They will start ruling out the simple diagnosis until they find a valid diagnosis and treatment. The more simple diagnosis they rule out, the more esoteric the diagnosis to be ruled out will become. This process will continue systematically until they find a diagnosis that holds. This will take time, perhaps a long time. Do not expect Thames fully playing in a game anytime soon unless we get lucky and he has something that can be treated relatively easily. Checking him for elevated sodium in the sweat indicates they are probably currently checking him out for possible Cystic Fibrosis. We will see. billikenfan05 1 Quote

Just pray it’s something that can be fixed. SLU_Lax 1 Quote

SLUMS81 Posted Monday at 02:28 PM Posted Monday at 02:28 PM Cystic Fibrosis is definitely a cause of increased sodium in sweat. Unlikely in Kellen’s case in view of his high level of physical fitness and lung function. Quote
