73Billiken
A great way to close out your collegiate career. Thank you for your contributions through some pretty tough years of Billiken basketball. VeniceMenace
But Team Blue delivered Roby a wiinning season & he’s a top 25 scorer in SLU history...and he played a part in what’s to come. SLUMAMA likes this
mrjoelabs
Props to a nice 4 years and suffering he really didn't deserve. He never should have had to play as big a role as he did. Roby would have been so good as a 20-25 minute per game type player. Thanks to Hines too, at least he busted his butt out there and again never should have been thrust into the position he was. HoosierPal
Mr. Roby has permanently etched his name in the Billiken Record Book. He sits in 23rd in Career Points Scored, between two other Billiken greats, Conklin and Ferry. He is 7th in both Career 3's Attempted and 3's Made. Interestingly he is one ahead of McCall in both categories, and also edged McCall in 3% at 36.5% (17th place) to 35.9% (18th place). That's good company. Roby ties Douglass and Heinrich for 10th place in Games Play with 128. He is 11th in Minutes Played in a Career, one minute behind Billiken Great Claggett. He also tied Kevin Lisch for minutes played in one season, both with 1068 for 17th on the all time list. That is one heck of a career Mr. Roby. What was a memorable moment last night, watching Coach and Roby embrace on the sidelines. Pistol and MusicCityBilliken like this
RiseAndGrind
I hope Roby continues to be involved with the University and the Program. He will always be one of my favorites as he was a perfect ambassador for the program. I wish SLU would have won a bit more for him but he ended on a strong note. Hope to see you around Chaifetz, Davell!
NextYearBill
arguably one of the greatest billikens of my fandom.... just for the amount of shite he saw and put up with. Thanks Davell for holding it down
SLU_Lax
When DR first showed up as a freshman starter, I was excited for the team and for its future. He came in built like a man and just looked like a great player. He held up his end of the bargain and gave SLU 4 great years both on and off the court. He really is and will remain one of my favorite Billikens. He represents everything that we could ever want from a student-athlete. He will be a great teacher and will continue to set a great example to all those around him.

Schasz
He stuck with SLU while the other Crews recruits hit the bricks. Roby had a nice career with the Bills!
CBFan
Best wishes Mr. Roby you will always be fondly remembered by the Billiken fans. I wish the teams around you were better but you never complained and showed up every game. Hope you find in your life all of the things you dream of and enjoy every minute of life. TheChosenOne
Roby certainly deserves a lot of credit for sticking thru some difficult times at SLU the past 4 seasons. It was impressive to hear when Ford came in that Roby really embraced that leadership role. I always appreciate guys who fight thru adversity and he certainly did that and rose above it. All of these qualities will help him tremendously as he moves on from his time in a Billiken uniform. I also certainly appreciate everything that Hines gave us in his time at SLU and Rashed Anthony in his one season where he was seemingly everything you would want in a teammate who is at the end of the rotation. While the 2018-19 Billikens are poised to really breakout, these guys will certainly be a part of that (as will kids like Mike Crawford and Reggie Agbeko who were in a similar spot the season before sticking thru tough times and being good representatives for the University). dlarry
One thing I'll always remember about Roby is that we walked like Willie Mcgee. Always seemed to be in pain when he was walking. He had a good career and was a fighter for 4 years. I don't know what's in store for that young man but I can guarantee you he will be successful in whatever he decides to do. In a time when a lot of young adults choose flight over right he went all 12 rounds.

MusicCityBilliken
If someone told me that Davell would be member of the 1000 Point Club after his sophomore year I would have asked what you are on. Davell just really blossomed junior and senior years. Stayed focused and got the job done spectacularly. Coming in as just a defensive specialist, loved how he developed that 3 pt shot. Also when getting a steal he was like money laying it up with that little Euro hesitation step he had. Like to credit TF and staff for getting Davell to this level. Davell will be making some post college basketball $ overseas if he wants that. Anyway, good luck Davell on what your plans are. Appreciate the memories. HoosierPal
I copied this from the A10 Blog referenced on the front page of Billikens.com. This is from Coach Ford discussing Davell Roby. Powerful words from Coach. “He’s meant a lot to the university to our basketball team and to our athletic department,” Ford said. “Here is a young man who came from Memphis, Tennessee to Saint Louis University and gave Saint Louis University a chance and Saint Louis University gave him a chance and Davell Roby took advantage of that. I’ve said it many times in the last couple weeks, talking about him as a senior: He’s a true student athlete. He’s the definition. His picture should be right there by student athlete. He has taken full advantage of an incredible education that you get at Saint Louis University. Incredible. It’s not an easy place academically; it’s challenging. “In the two years that I’ve known him, I’ve never had to call him into my office because he missed a class or because he missed a tutor or didn’t do well in a class or whatever it is. He rises to the occasion. He’s learned at Saint Louis University how to be a very accountable, responsible young man. He’s prepared for the next step, whatever that is for him, because he’s put a lot in to Saint Louis University, a lot, time and effort and great attitude, a lot. He’s put a lot into it, and Saint Louis University has given a lot back to him. For two years, like I said, he has a smile on his face every single day; and as I told him, man, he’s always going to have me in his corner for what he’s represented." Soderball
I want to add that Roby is an education major.. Will he be doing student teaching next year? He is a real class act for the university. Real courage and integrity.
TheOne
Great Billiken. Great leader. Glad we got to watch him play. It’s a shame he never got to experience a truly successful season at SLU. I’m confident all that good karma will pay off for him - kid has a bright future! VeniceMenace likes this
