billikenbill Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Not a division one team but Calvary University of Kansas City lost to UMKC, 119-19 tonight. Calvary is in the National Christian College Athletic Associaton, Division 2. Why are some of these games even scheduled? Quote

I’d rather have UMKC on the schedule over both Avila and William Wood, and I’m sure a lot of their fans would rather play us instead of Calvary University. Zink, CenHudDude and AGB91 3 Quote

Cavalry has an enrollment of 202 undergrads, so 6 percent of the student body is on the basketball team?? Reminds of Webber University in Florida, which has an enrollment of about 1000 students that has a football team, mens and womens basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, beach volleyball and soccer, as well as baseball and softball. At least a third of their students are athletes or athletic staff. Quote

Bay Area Billiken Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Memphis rallied from a 9 point halftime deficit to beat USF (CA) 68-64 last night at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Chase Center is not USF's regular home court, although USF has been playing 1 or 2 regular season games there. SLU will be playing USF at its on campus gym, War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. USF is now 4-1. Quote
gobillsgo Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Ben McCollum has Drake looking like one of the best mid majors in the country again, with most of their major performers being D2 Transfers that followed him from NW MO. 4-0 with a win over Miami. That was a hell of a hire, and what on earth was Mo State thinking not giving him what he wanted? Drake up 48-42 over FAU midway thru 2nd half. ESPN2. Quote
mrjoelabs Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Yea this Drake story is amazing. Squad of D2 kids. I can't believe that point guard can dunk! SLU should have hired this guy and brought his whole squad Quote

Just an observation I can't back up with data, but it seems like every non-power conference program pursuing a leap in football has done so at the peril of the other programs within those athletic departments. Just bad decision after bad decision while the football blinders are on. Watching UMass' athletic department in the past few months has reinforced that for me. Drake seems like an athletic program that takes all of its sports seriously. Let's hope they don't sacrifice them to upgrade the football program (currently a non-scholarship team). Quote

I'm beginning to think there isn't much difference between a top 10 D2 team and a top 100 D1 team. Billiken Rich 1 Quote

MusicCityBilliken Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Is it just me that totally loathes Dan Hurley? I came in for the Rhode Island-SLU game at the Chaifetz just before covid and he never stopped berating the refs with that loud foul mouth. Getting tired watching his assistants having to hold him back like he some kind out of control maniac. Wish the refs would start teeing him up. Quote
TheA_Bomb Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Minnesota did not foul up 3. WSU ties hits the 3, going to over time Quote
