slufan13 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I don't passionately care about the baseball team but I just don't see why you wouldn't make a commitment to improving an already very good thing. Sure it's not a money-maker but that's college athletics outside of 2-3 sports. May is both incredibly overrated and very underrated by this board. billikenfan05 and SLUMedBilliken15 2 Quote

BillTheCat Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 FWIW - May and the assistant AD lady were both at the A-10 tournament in Tysons VA, and the hope of many is that they were taking notes on that facility, and how a similar concept could be accomplished very reasonably at SLU. The seats were modest but 10x the comfort level of what SLU has currently (think SIUE), there were ramps so the facility was actually ADA compliant, the lights were top notch LEDs, and the sound system and press box were good. Tournament aside - This was a year results-wise that DH can sell to portal guys and recruits… a facility upgrade to bring in press box, better seating and lights could be done in one offseason and be ready for 2025 spring. So you're just going to forget 10 years of garbage for what, 3 months of doing his job and nothing more? He helped the Champions center be built. The Champions Center was built because it was needed. R Sure, you can complain about their facilities, but building new baseball facilities for what the 50-100 max fans who regularly go to games sure isn't a winning investment. The facilities are bottom of the A10. The turf was installed so late that they nearly did not have a home field to start the season. They did not have lights because May refused to cover installation of new lights donated by a baseball alum. He also refused crowdfunding to cover installation. They had to turn on the decrepit lights to finish a weeknight game and one of the lights exploded above the visiting dugout. Who cares hows many fans we get? Nobody is asking for a 5k seat stadium. What we're asking for is an overhaul of the seating areas in place. We're not looking for expanded seating, only for increased comfort for those willing to come out and watch the Billikens. Not only is the seating an issue for drawing spectators. It's a major eye-sore when it comes to recruiting. You wanna sell players families on coming out for a midweek game in April sitting on aluminum bleachers? FFS, they have unpaid interns staffing these early season midweek games in 50-60 degree weather rain and sh*t in a portable birds nest with no heat and barely adequate coverage. People look for a scapegoat when things aren't going perfectly. May has been SLU's scapegoat. Yeah maybe the culture he creates within the athletic department is bad, but recently his results are good. Things seem to be going pretty perfectly now, per your post. Why are people still angry with May? May f*cking HID IN HIS OFFICE the entire basketball season. How many posts on here about May being MIA from things. Now he's big man on campus because he corrected 2 major hiring errors? Now he's decided to actually do some directoring? I am telling you all point blank, the baseball program will die if Hendrickson decides he's had enough of being the red headed step child. If updates to the baseball facilities are not made, Hendrickson will leave at some point and as this program stands, the job is damn near dead last in College Baseball. You have taken every opportunity possible to trash Chris May. Never has someone said anything positive about him without you going scorched earth on the guy. Perhaps May had enough of the name calling and this is why your podcast can’t get an interview with Schertz or anyone else associated with the athletic department? Quote
OkieBilliken Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 D1baseball.com has Coach DH as a candidate for the Indiana State job, however they list a few ahead of him, including SEMO’s coach Sawyers. Quote

Let’s appreciate the content that these guys provide us with. It’s more than a lot of collegiate message boards. There are people on both sides of the Chris May argument. It’s totally fine to voice your displeasure. MusicCityBilliken 1 Quote
Speyburn Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 One team that is getting a new facility is field hockey. Work is under way putting in a water-based field next to the track & field complex at Compton/Choteau. So, they will now be able to play and practice close to campus and not having to drive out to Sportsport. I don't know what the situation is regarding bleachers, press box or lights. Quote

The people who back May can't come up with any real arguments on why he is exceptional, good, or even just average. Meanwhile I can pull 10 things off the top of my head that make him look bad at his job. Sounds a lot like the people who were supporting Ford up until his last days. Billikens fans deserve better. Guest Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 There was no specific donation or donation offer for new baseball lights. That is a rumor and has quite honestly turned into a lie from a poster with a vendetta against the athletic department. The baseball program is up to the standards of the people who matter within the program. Quote
