GOSLU68
If the soccer team does well maybe we could support an NBA team but definitely no NFL here- that ship sailed and the politician’s will hide the settlement On 2/1/2022 at 5:02 PM, AnkielBreakers said: It is fascinating that StL doesn’t have a Gleague or NBA team. I believe we’re on the list for potential expansion/relocation, right behind Seattle. And we have a potential benefactor with Chaifetz, as he tried to buy the Bucks a few years back. thetorch
The Wizards made a large number of roster moves at the trade deadline that may affect Goodwin's NBA status for the remainder of the season. Trades Wizards traded Spencer Dinwiddie & Davis Bertans to the Mavs for Kristaps Porzingis and picks. Wizards traded Montrezl Harrell to the Hornets for Vern Carey & Ish Smith. Wizards traded Aaron Holiday to the Suns for Cash. Injuries Bradley Beal will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing wrist surgery. Analysis The Wizards continue to be one of the poorest run franchises in the NBA. Beal opted to have surgery on his wrist once it was confirmed to him that the Wizards would not be trying to make a big splash in the trade market ie acquiring Damian Lillard or Ben SImmons. Beal can opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Wizards are hoping to resign them. Dinwiddie was acquired to be a running mate for Beal in the backcourt and it never panned out. Dinwiddie is having one of his poorest shooting seasons of his career and didn't play well along with the ball dominant Beal. Bertans also has been in a season long shooting slump, as the 3 point specialist is shooting just 31% from 3 this year. The trade for Porzingis netted solid value for the Wizards despite Porzingis' large contract. He should thrive back in the Eastern conference as long as he stays healthy. The trade of Harrell relieves a logjam in the post and gets back a serviceable point guard in Ish Smith. The acquisition of Smith left no place for Holiday moving forward so he was moved as well. The Wizards current roster looks like this PG - Smith, Neto, Ayayi (2W), Winston (2W) SG - Caldwell Pope, Kispert, SF - Kuzma, Avdija PF - Hachimura, Carey, Todd, Gill C - Porzingis, Gafford, Bryant Just as at the beginning of the season the Wizards still have too many big men and wings and a lot of the same type of interchangeable combo forwards and swingmen. At the same time their PG depth is weak. Ish Smith is an undersized point guard. A decent scorer but more of a distributor. Not a great shooter. He's been primarily a backup and has been in the league bouncing around for 8 years. Neto is more of the same but even smaller and can score a little more. Kuzma has also been handling the ball more as a point forward. Their wings are all the same, 6'6-6'8 guys who play varying levels of defense while not shooting well. Outside of Porzingis who is a traditional tall center, all of their big men are in the 6'7-6'9 range and mostly do the same things, rim runners or pick and pop guys. One of their big men will get released eventually. The Wizards definitely have a spot available for a bigger PG and a more defensive mobile SG. Goodwin has played well since his demotion His last 4 games he has averaged 17/6/6 while shooting 42% from the field and 39% from 3. Hopefully he continues to assert himself. Another ten day contract or two could turn into a slot on the Wizards or another team for next season. No callup will probably signal that it is time to move on from the NBA and go overseas. someoneelse
I remember Pat Riley saying that his job as a Laker player was to push Jerry West in practice to make West better. So, maybe the skills needed to be a good practice player are different than being a good game player. Maybe Goodwin has (not quite good enough) game skills, but not the practice skills. You saw this with covid and people called up, getting minutes and sticking. While the bench players were by passed for playing time. It may have been bad talent evaluation on behalf of the front office. I don't have any inside knowledge about Goodwin, or anyone else, or anything, really. Just my thoughts. RUBillsFan
Frustrating news here: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2022/03/wizards-waive-joel-ayayi.html Wizards are waiving Joel Ayayi who was on a 2 way contract, but it is to sign the wrong Jordan (Schakel, not Goodwin) Both are guards, Schakel is 6-6 and more of a SG. Goodwin 6-3. They both play 32.5 mpg for the Go Go, so per game stats are easily comparable. Schakel's G-Leauge stats: 14.6 ppg, 43.1% FG, 35.2% 3pt on 7.6 attempts, 94.1% FT, 4.3 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 to, 0.9 spg Goodwin's G-League stats: 15.5 ppg, 42.0% FG, 32.1% 3pt on 4.0 attempts, 77.6% FT, 6.2 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.4 to, 1.7 spg Schakel is a slightly better / more efficient shooter. Goodwin is better at everything else. I don't really get it because you probably don't want a bottom of the roster guy shooting / trying to score much anyways. Obviously, the Wizards are idiots and making a huge mistake. But, Schakel shot 46% his last year in college. I am guessing they think he can be a better shooter than the above shows. I'm not sure I trust the Wizards to effectively evaluate how 3pt shooting in college might translate to the NBA. They used a mid 1st round pick on Corey Kispert who shot 44% last year at Gonzaga, but is shooting just 32% in the NBA this season.
Coach314
Wizards have Neto, Ish Smith, and Satoransky who can all play point. In addition to Cassius Winston. They occasionally run offense thru Avdija as well. Kuzma and Porzingis are their scorers and they give touches to their bigs. Someone who can play the 2/3 and spot up for 3s fits the need more than another point guard.
cgeldmacher
The Wizards have proven that they are not the best evaluators of talent in the NBA. I'm hoping another, more competent, team looks at what Goodwin did this year and thinks that his unselfish, hardworking style would be a good fit for the end of their bench. There are tons of extremely athletic guys who can sort of shoot, but don't play much defense, don't rebound, and don't put up much effort in the NBA. Those guys are a dime a dozen. I can see a team thinking that what Goodwin brings would be great during stretches where their starters need a breather. crymdg2
https://gleague.nba.com/games/20220405cpsccg/ The Go Go won their playoff game tonight. It looks like the G-League follows a similar postseason format as the CBI Tournament where we played VCU years ago with a single elimination until the finals (then a best of 3.) Goodwin led the team with 26 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. They play again Thursday night at 630 against the Raptors affiliate.
