  1. Unbelievable this coach continues to allow McMakin to constantly jack shots. Shes shot at or above 40% in four games. 4!! Out of 20! Kudos to other players for not just quitting.

  2. On a miss there’s nobody in college basketball better handling the ball than Yuri. On makes his value goes way down. It’s time to put him in the corner on makes and let Perkins and Pickett run the point.

  3. We're having a completely different conversation if Perkins hadn't risen from the grave and spread the good word yesterday. I don't fully disagree with anything you said. I wish we ran a better offense and had better contributions from players across the board but I can only ask for so much. If guys start doing what we expect them to do everything will look better with or without Yuri on the floor. (ESPECIALLY Okoro)

  4. I was loving the top of the key isos with Perk and Pickett. Doesn’t happen when they’re playing the 3 and 4. I’d like to see that mixed in when Yuri returns.

  5. This may get long winded, so bear with me. SLU IS BETTER with Yuri, but (especially with a healthy/effective Perkins) we his loss isn't as massive as it would seem based on how much of an impact he has on the game when he is playing. IMO a big problem with the "less dibbling / less time with the ball in Yuri's hands" stuff is that Yuri isn't a very good player on offense unless the ball is in his hands. He's phenomenal with the ball. Without the ball, he's not a good shooter, not a good cutter, and because he's smaller he doesn't have much impact as a screener. Honestly, when Yuri is in the game, SLU is "easy" to defend & the fact that our offense is still really good speaks to how awesome Yuri is with the ball. Example - go watch the highlight package from the GW game & see how many top of the key 3 pointers our guys made. That screen / 3 from the top isn't really an option with Yuri in the game because either he's the one handling the ball up top & he's not going to shoot OR his guy is going to help off him to make it easier to defend the screen that someone else is executing. There is a similar thing doing on defense. Yuri is our best on ball defender, but he's also undersized. That means if we switch screens with Yuri in the game, he get stuck on a big & it's often either an easy bucket or a foul on Yuri. He's not really effective played in a zone D because he doesn't have the length to be disruptive. Our 1-3-1 Of course you'd prefer to have your best on ball defender in the game, but not having him in the game opens up more options for us on D. (Edit: please have mercy on me @Bills By 40, this is not meant to be a knock on Yuri)

  6. This weekend marks five games down in the A10 conference season. A 27% completion rate. A little over one quarter. I haven't devoted as much attention to the A10 as I have in the past mainly because a smany have nboted, it's just been a bad, Juan Bid-esque league this year. But at the quarter mark, trends are out there. No one really has many good OOC wins. We are likely the best, having beat Memphis, Providence and Drake. VCU has topped Pitt and Vanderbilt. Dayton has downed SMU and Wyoming. The Bonnies beat Notre Dame. Richmond beat Temple and Drake both at home. Duquesne beat RuPaul. Geedubya crushed South Carolina while Davidson won as well Umass beat Colorado. Loyola beat Clemson at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. While La Salle, Rhode Island, Mason, Fordham, and St. Joe's have failed to collect any significant victories of note. As far as the league goes, Dayton, VCU and SLU have risen to the current top of the heap. The Bonnies appear to be pretenders away from the Reilly Center. Mason's lack of depth, as demonstrated in St. Louis, is a huge anchor on their team. Ditto Geedubya. Geedubya will only go as far as Bishop and Adams take them. An off night there kills (just look at Bishop's dismal performance yesterday). Richmond is Tyler Burton and pray for rain. But they can and will surprise at the Robbins Center. Umass can win at home; on the road not so much. Loyola has been a complete disappointment and some are questioning if the step up from the MVC might be a little too much. Duquesne has surprised with all their transfers but their SOS has been also on the weak side. They do win at home as evidenced by their beating VCU in Pittsburg. Good to get them in the Loo. The pillow fight is tough to call right now. La Salle and St. Joe's seem locks. And Loyola is trending that way. Six teams enter this year's pillow fight in Brooklyn and I would venture to say we have three locks at this point. Rhode Island appears to have an inside track to a fourth and the euphoria over Fordham's hot OOC start is fading. Not surprising. For us, a top four finish looks pretty good right now. We'll check back at the 50% complete mark later. While the Wiz has us favored in the next six games, games at Loyola this week and Davidson on January 27 will be true road tests as far as we go. And that home match with VCU will loom large. VCU has already won at Loyola and at Dayton. Six wins there will position quite nicely for the closing kick where we have games at Dayton, at VCU and at Richmond. Still too early to call but the angst caused by some OOC failures has lifted some due to this current run. Dayton should be getting Smith and Elvis back soon. Short of Shriver, no one on VCU seems capable of shooting. Wed may have learned a lot with Collins out yesterday. Richmond goes as Burton goes; Davidson goes as Loyer goes. A top four finish is critical still (said Captain Obvious).

  7. There is only 1 player that got meaningful minutes yesterday that will be back next year. So not really a silver lining. the only silver lining I see is that Travis might see that there could be more to the offense than Yuri at the top of the key with an on ball screen from forester or Okoro

  8. It’s very clear to me that the more Perkins has the ball in his hands the more comfortable he is. He needs to be initiating offense as a 1B to Yuri’s 1A. Every handful of possessions put the ball in his hands to make the plays. I think when he’s consistently off the ball and only touching it a few times per game he gets out of sync. He’s very much a rhythm scorer and they need to put him in the drivers seat like he was on Saturday. He has the ability to completely carry you offensively

  12. Agree. This is a bad team. Yes, they had their signature win against Clemson (a Q1 win- one of three for the conference), but it has been downhill since then. They score 67.6 ppg and give up 72.8 ppg. They are in the bottom third of the A10 in 3's and also in giving up 3's. They are 14th (of 15) in team rebounds. SLU is first in rebounds with a 7.7 delta over Loyola. They have lost all five A10 games by 10, 23, 11, 14 and 31 points. Double digit win with or without Collins.

  13. I hope we get to play the Loyola team that lost to St. Joe's by 31 points and not the one that beat an excellent Clemson team (undefeated in the ACC) by 18. They seem a bit bipolar, but trending the wrong way.

  15. I didn’t get to watch until late last night on the ESPN+ replay. 3 takeaways: 1. Nice win! 2. both of those play by play guys were so bad it was almost like an SNL skit. 3. I saw some guy hunched over with bent knees, getting low when he was bringing the ball up the court and I was like “holy sh*t, that’s Perkins!!”
