  2. SLU hosted a few years back a conference on the origins of Billiken for bicentennial that I attended. Unfortunately the presenter knew less than I did, and brought fewer props. An MBM and grocery store manager took over the lecture in front a bunch of academic stiffs. A sad sad display by the university. There is a lot of legends out there but the Billiken was created in 1908 in KC. It is prevalent in Japan and Alaska but for different, not ancient reasons. Japan has a love for all American Kitsch, Alaskans love to sell tourists trinkets that look authentic. I went to Osaka as a teen and didn't take in the Billikens like i should have. I hope to go back one day. I own several Billiken figurines including the one pictured above. They are quite plentiful and still being produced in Alaska. Here is the best site I have found for history of the Billiken. https://churchofgoodluck.com/home-of-the-church-of-good-luck-and-museum-of-good-luck/billiken/

  7. We have 4 games after tonight against PIG teams, and another two that are against Richmond and Rhode Island - Richmond we proved to be nothing special, and Rhode Island has not looked good. I like our chances to win all 6 of those even though five of them are on the road. If we win all six of those and go .500 @ Mason/vs Dayton/vs & @ Bonnies/@ Davidson/vs VCU then we're sitting at 12-5 in conference play and that's a pretty comfortable spot. Realistically I think we go above .500 in those tougher games, and beating Davidson on the road would put us back in fringe at-large territory. Or, fock 'em, let's win em all

  9. I have followed this board for many years and only posted a couple of times. I have limited computer skills. Am a member of the Art Museum. Today's object of art is a billiken created by a K.C. artist in 1908 and has become an object of art for native persons in Alaska and also the mascot of the SLU athletic programs. It was the object of songs. Maybe if someone is a member of the Museum, that person can bring the picture of the billiken and the explanation into this thread . Thanks

  10. mizzou could have had 3 possessions in 35 seconds, obviously difference of opinion, most disagree with cuonzo and the announcer, is puzzling the same as mind boggling?

  11. The time I went to Savannah I was attending an industry meeting. We stayed across the river in one of the big hotels there. We had to cross the river (free ferry) whenever we wanted to explore the old city. The area of the old city where the ferry docked was a flat docks area much below the level of the city itself, the old city was built upon some bluffs. The docks area was for commerce, it was ancient and very interesting to walk through. Perhaps you might be interested in exploring this part of the city, there are long staircases to access this area from the city above. I liked it a lot. I remember going to a number of the restaurants, I think the pink house may have been one of them, but I cannot remember their names other than Paula Deens. By the way Paula Deens had restricted hours of operation at that time (around 2007).

  13. massimino was the legendary villanova coach who was there a trillion years and won a national championship in the 80's there. pure coach. not just a salesman. that 1985 national championship game was one of my favorites ever. bigtime underdog to georgetown and they came out and couldnt miss. i bet the shooting percentage they had that game is a record. (too lazy to look it up)

  17. been there twice now, went 3 years ago for a concert, not a big fan. I wouldn't put it in my top 15. I'm not one to go to a museum, and Food options are not a big factor. Bars are my specialty when rating cities, DC nightlife was on par to STL.

  21. 20 minutes of Billiken talk. Nesbitt, he still trying to learn how to play at 100% effort and energy all the time. When he has that, he will be unstoppable. In between his big plays, he was bringing back his mid range jumper. Billikens did what they were supposed to do at Chaifetz. Rammer took Rocc to practice today. Team was working hard to get three point looks today. They have the foundation to shot 20 to 25 three's per game. Cross court passes to open shooters were common. Coach Ford has a deep playbook but gives the team the freedom to improvise and take with the defense gives you. He has many options on each play. Defense has freedom to call out switches, not a rigid base system. They talked a lot on defense. When Basile is out there, they will switch on all five positions, not as much with Okoro or Linssen. Basile has quick feet and moves well on defense. French was the top, Rammer has seen, on big man switches. With Linssen out, his value to the team has been amplified. Linssen is moving better now. He had three injuries to his leg. Linssen is very vocal on the floor and on the bench. (Rammer is guessing Linssen is looking at the German pro league next season.) GW was bad early in the season. They have the second most transfers in D1. So it is not a surprise it has taken them time to gel. The Bills cannot have a hiccup against GW. Teams don't shoot a lot of three's against GW, but teams shoot well inside against them. They do a lot of off-ball stuff, open cuts, back doors. Ball watching by the Bills will give up big runs. Watch and make sure guys aren't coasting tomorrow.

  30. Team Rankings (62 TR rankings for SLU) Vegas line favors SLU to win by 16.5 pts with the full 5 star confidence rating. The pregame performance stats for SLU are better than GWs in both offense and defense. Again an independent evaluation with different methodology supporting the Wiz's evaluation.

  31. The current variant of the virus was discovered in South Africa, not from there. South Africa has some of the most plentiful and advanced viral research labs in the world. Better than the US in fact. Please don't spread disinformation.
