  3. I think the mold is already broken. Pretty much every Crews recruit that transferred has gone on to a better career at another institution.

  4. Just to clarify on Miles Reynolds, in 2017-18 at Pacific he was the 2nd highest scorer on the team and 2nd in mpg among guards. In 2018-19 at Oklahoma he was 3rd in minutes and 4th in scoring among guards. He averaged 23 minutes in their two NCAA tournament games, basically as their sixth man at that point. Being a leader of a .500 WCC team, when the WCC had two Top 25 teams, and then contributing significant minutes (averaged 20+ for the season) to a P5 tournament team, including in two tournament games, was "transferr[ing] to better things and careers" than he could have expected by staying. Also, you left Milik Yarbrough off of the list. He led the Illinois State Redbirds in scoring, rebounding and assists two years in a row. Not defending Crews' recruiting ability here. Just saying that a few of these kids had some talent and were worth more than.... what you describe.

  5. We have been clamoring for more bills content for years now, and you want to do this? no wonder we don’t have a scout.com or whatever the equivalent is nowadays support billiken content creators

  6. The bottom line is exactly right. for what it’s worth, I think Goodwin has already had a better Bills career than Jett - who did most of his damage in his last season, and imo wasn’t the best player of his era. I think Claggett is the player with the most beef not being up there at this time.

  7. That's a lot of filler for a guy who just wanted to know about Hankton. His injuries were the persistent and nagging but not shut-down level, as I understood it. He really added to his frame between freshman and sophomore year. He can stretch it with his shooting. He's a smart player who moves well and has a knack for spacing and timing but we saw him more frequently as a freshman and he got outbodied a lot - e.g. he'd be right where he needed to be for a rebound and often not come up with it. Bottom line is he's kind of a mystery to us because we didn't get much of a chance to see him. A year off will/would (depending on potential waiver) probably do him well. I could see him being a solid contributing role player at Chattanooga if he gets healthy and is well suited for the system there. Hope it works out for you guys, @GoMocs.

  8. I disagree. I say he was trouble no matter where he went and who the coach was/is. Ford has not demonstrated he will put up with nonsense and coddle headcases.

  9. or any of it, ever. I doubt if I'm the only one wanting a digest of this material; but if so I guess you all just have a lot more time on your hands. It was an innocent question, just wondering. Often HoosierPal and others give a useful digest of the radio shows, for those not able to catch it; how is this different?? I don't get the pushback...

  10. Claggett is more worthy than any other Billiken past or present of having his number retired. 3x 1st team All Conf, Honorable Mention All-American. 2nd all-time leading scorer. Jordair Jett is certainly more worthy than anyone on the current roster having won conf POY and Honorable Mention All-American. I think we should also remember that Melvin Robinson wore 50 in 1989-90 and Cody Ellis wore 24 from 2010-2013 after the numbers were supposed to be "retired". I don't know when Boushka's 24 was retired but Larry Simmons wore it in the late 90s. This might have been the period when only 50 was retired while we had 24 and 43 banners hanging next to it. Bonner's 34 wasn't retired immediately as some have pointed out that Donnie Dobbs wore it from 92-94 and then Tyrone Caswell in the late 90s. I don't recall exactly when Bonner's 34 was retired. Bottom line: It's an exclusive club that doesn't really have any clear criteria or consistent rules.

  13. -offering as perspective on how special..... JGood has 1,156 career points, 12.4ppg avg, if we play 30 games and he averages 16ppg he will be 7th all-time leading scorer already top 10 in rebounds, career to date avg is 8.5rpg, if he averages 8.0rpg (and it will be more) over 30 games he will be 4th or 5th in total rebounds depending on HAS career avg to date is 3.5apg, if we play 30 games and averages 3.0apg (and it will be more) he will be tied for 7th in career assists already second in career steals, career avg to date is 1.95spg, if we play 30 games and averages 1.5spg he will be all-time leader with 35 more than AB career avg to date is 34.5mpg, if we play 30 and he is at 34.5mpg he will be 3rd in all-time minutes played -no Billiken should ever wear 0 again -if the season goes close to as I suspect and the ADept wants to unfurl a 5th banner on Senior Night I am good with that -can we stop saying someone will 'replace' JGood? in 21-22 his minutes will be up for grabs but I find it almost impossible to believe there is a 'replacement'

  15. Yes. P5 is a football term. No, P5 does not mean a program is great or even good team. No, the use of P5 still DOES have relevance with men's basketball. In short, the only way for SLU to gain real revenue and real exposure for the University is through men's basketball. Maybe if SLU women's team wins the NCAA Tourney each year like UConn, or if the men's soccer team can win the NCAA Tourney again, then there will be exposure and, and if so, revenue will be earned. And yes, revenue is realized with butts in the seats so SLU soccer does raise some revenue and should not be in the same category as the cross country teams. But with that said, conference affiliation revenues, TV revenues (both through the airing of games/corporate sponsors) as well as butts in the seats/concessions revenue is mostly all through men's basketball. Basketball programs which are in the P5 (whether or not they good, have won recently -- Mizzou, Alabama, LSU... come to mind) benefit having two (2) such revenues streams -- football and men's basketball. And with these football revenues, which dwarf basketball revenues, they can and do use these monies to hire/retain good basketball head coaches, assistance coaches, travel expenses, athlete housing and basketball recruiting budgets. Mizzou, Alabama and LSU have this money from football whereas Seton Hall... and even the good non P5/Big East schools like Gonzaga, Xavier, Georgetown, Villanova, etc. do not. So even when they are bad/mediocre, P5 basketball programs have a huge advantage. Now, whether or not they take advantage of this is another issue.

  16. This. And I'll pop a single ear bud in when I'm cooking, doing dishes, etc. You'd be surprised how much podcast time you can take in during household tasks. There's no need to be daunted by a 2.5 hour run time. It's not a live sporting event. Just break it up as you go about your day. Plus, the podcast format is perfect for longer, more thorough conversations/presentations. And if you find yourself in a stretch that isn't particularly compelling, hit the 30-second fast forward a few times. (Stuen's sister runs a fashion Instagram/website, I think, and he clearly puts some time into his threads. You had to expect some of that. It's like expecting Majerus not to talk about Italian food.)

  17. I completely missed Jalen Johnson transferring to Mississippi State! Good for him. While I don't remember my exact thoughts throughout his time here, I liked his game and kind of wished he came when we had more depth so he could grow into a role as opposed to being forced into big minutes from day #1.

  18. Easy Ed’s number 50 is the only retired number at SLU and I think that only happened about 20 years ago. The jerseys of Bonner, Ferry, and Bousshka are retired. Anyone can still get assigned their number.

  20. Exactly. And I damn near never have 2+ hours to just sit there and listen to a podcast. I usually break it into chunks - 10 minutes in the car, 20 minutes while I'm drinking my morning coffee, 30 minutes after the kids go to bed, etc. And for the most part, the interviews are not like the Ford interviews on the radio - they often don't translate well to a short synopsis on a message board. I mean, you can list the things Chris Sloan or Jeff Harris or Elliott Welmer talked about in their interviews, but it's not much of a substitute for actually listening to it.

  21. Just a lot of interesting personal info on F. Stuen. As long as his answers were, I couldn't help but think of Rick M. Ask a question and 10 minutes later, Ford S. and Rick would get around to answering the original question. In both cases the listener/viewer gained insight into a number of things. One substantive point made by Ford was an encouraging description of M. Strickland as a highly skilled player. An interesting 10 minutes or so on Ford's trip to Europe and what was gained for him and the Billikens in addition to finding Lorentsson. Way TOO MUCH time at the beginning discussing Ford's suits and shoes. It seemed like 45 minutes, but was likely only 15-20. After watching the podcast, I think Stuen is the perfect balance to an AC group of Bailey, Tate and the newest addition with his Gonzaga experiences

  22. I guess it depends on how you subjectively measure objective production. Who were the [dead] recruits that transferred out? Tanner Lancona. Marcus Bartley. Miles Reynolds. Austin Gillman. Brett Jolley. Matt Neufeld. Jermaine Bishop. Maybe throw Grandy Glaze, Kieth Carter and Jared Drew in there. Drew and Gillman disappeared. Lancona and Jolley went down a few divisional levels. Neufeld did little at his new California school. Which leaves you with the four guards who at best were all the third or fourth guards on their respective teams except for Bishop .... who went to the MEAC and Norfolk State. I think that graphically demonstrates that NONE of [dead's] recruits were worth doo-doo and the man had no clue how to evaluate talent. The only guys in the history of the program who transferred to better things and careers were Ricky Frazier (Mizzou), Julian Winfield (Mizzou), Ricky Cranford (for one year at Boston U), Jason Edwin (one year at Kent State), Jeff Ford (SW Mo State), Jalen Johnson (Louisiana), to name a few. And only Frazier had accomplished more than middle of the road results. But like I said, it's subjective and in my universe, Billiken transfers out of the program have done very little. I expect Hankton to be the same. Ditto Diarra.

  25. I joined, thanks for posting this!! I’ve been a part of a fantasy golf league in a way since I was a little kid. My dad and his friends had one before fantasy sports were so huge, before the internet even. They would print out a list of all the active golfers with a tour card, have their draft in person, and hand write their teams. 5 players you keep for the whole year. They still do it 25 years later. Once I made enough money to blow 250 bucks on the buy-in I joined. Makes watching golf a little more interesting for sure. The point being I’m pumped for this, since I wasn’t able to make it to the draft this year and I’ve missed watching golf actually.

  26. 05 and whoever your partner is--------Great job on the podcast with Stuen. Personally, I just can't listen to 2-3 hour podcast the way you have been doing them, but I just sat through this video version from start to finish and thought it was great, even with the few glitches that you had to deal with. It was really enjoyable and very worthwhile for any Billikens fan. Thanks

  27. I think the Gonzaga game rivals the Dayton loss for me. I think it was 2005. Lisch hit a deep trey to tie it; then Morrison beats us at the buzzer. That was a long walk to the car...

  29. The four numbers in the rafters are the four players who were named to All-America teams. At this point, there are four major organizations that name three All-America teams each - AP, Sporting News, USBWA, and NABC - and the AP does an honorable mention team, as well. Not all four of our retired jerseys were first-teamers. If Goodwin makes a third team, which is not at all out of the question, then a number in the rafters is quite possible. Just to be clear, I don't know what the school's criteria are at this point. I don't know if they'd recognize all four of the main ones. I don't know if the two Senior All-America (Senior CLASS Award finalists) teams count, either, or if AP honorable mention is enough. I don't know if they'd make an exception for a four-year star who, say, led SLU to its first Sweet Sixteen. Let's hope he has the kind of year where there's no ambiguity about it at the end of the season.

  30. Is we’re not an NCAA team this year, it’s an unmitigated failure. It would be a huge black mark on Ford’s resume and subsequently would get remembered alongside everything Goodwin and French have done. Frankly, NITs shouldn’t be something we celebrate around here anymore. for what it’s worth, I’m talking a different level of Billiken than Lisch and Liddell. When we talk numbers in the rafters type stuff, those two don’t really enter that type of conversation.

  33. So if we are talking Goodwin, French should be too: He is already the all-time leader in blocks and there's a good chance he has twice as many as Ian, who is second. Averaging 10reb, he is second all time in rebounds. Points - he will probably be just outside the top 10. Both of these guys will be all-time bills, but their legacy will be directly connected to what this team achieves this season. If this is an NIT team, these guys don't get celebrated like they should

  34. Maybe Xavier at our place? I remember he pulled us back into that one, absolutely torched Stanley Burrell down the stretch, and we lost by 2. Then Burrell proceeded to jump on the scorer's table and pound his chest and scream as if it were a home game and he didn't just get embarrassed. I wanted nothing more than to be within beer-throwing range when that happened.
