Steve is going to try something different this year and have a GDT automatically generate at midnight on game day.  The GDT Bot account will only start GDT Topics.

What this will let me do is have the GDT thread links automatically be posted to the main page of Billikens.com.  This topic will be a test.  If things work, a link should appear on http://www.stlouisbasketball.com

It worked!  Well done, Steve! Another sign the computer overlords are one step closer to replacing all us humans…

To explain more fully, the new approach just lets me create all of the GDT threads in advance (so a human is still creating them).  I can just schedule when they become public.

I likes dis.

I've noticed that when you dig deeper into work related around AI, it usually means automation.  Which computer programmers have been doing forever by writing scripts in their computer language of choice.  Now regular folk can just ask computers to run scripts by using human language instead of computer language.

We could have done this for a while.  I think we lose a little of the charm with a "bot" making the GDT.  However, it lets me put the GDT link automatically on the front page of Billikens.com, which I hope drives more traffic to the thread.

-can the bot delete the stupid posts in the GDT? that would be progress

Computer automation can do a lot, but it will never be able to compensate for human stupidity. Even as much as they improve computers, the human edge in sheer stupidity does not look like it can ever be overtaken

That would require genuine artificial intelligence.  We ain't there yet.

Agree it cannot be done at this stage. You must remember that what is crass stupidity for some people may be a revelation to other people. Just check what the candidates are saying in the current electoral campaign if you do not understand this concept.

Another factor that may be important is that without "stupid" posts, the board will have a very unilateral point of view that will result in a marked overall decrease in the number of posts. If you allow only one point of view, with nothing "stupid" allowed, there is really no need to post much of anything.

The problem then becomes, what is the definition of stupid.  Before you know it the AI will make a picture Easy Ed Macauley look like an Asian grandmother.

As long as the GDT bot cheers for the Billikens, I have no problem with it. Go Billikens!

No stream?

Rammer and Earl are broadcasting on KMOX and/or Varisity Network.  Check the Billiken website for details.

I'll be at the game but wanted to get in on this historic bot-infused GDT. I never post during a home game unless maybe there is someone stuck on an oil rig and just begging for some news.

I used to be a big baseball fan. MLB has slowly sucked that out of me. Don't really care which of these two wins. Not enough to keep me home from a Billikens basketball game, even if it is an exhibition against Maryville.

Fontbonne has closed already. Wash U bought the campus. By the way the Fontbonne College in St. Louis is not the only Fontbonne College in the US, there was one in Boston. I am not sure if the Boston Fontbonne College is still open or not.

Another night,  another draw.  If you would have told me our soccer teams had three combine losses at this point of the year, I would have taken it.  But they have both pretty significantly underperformed.   I guess we will have Overtime in the conference tournaments at least.  Bummer of a year so far.

Pulling for the both to lose.

"Pulling for the both to lose."

Ha, kinda my feeling. I knew it was unlikely, but I wanted Cleveland and San Diego. And didn't care who won.
