This can’t be real, right? It’s gotta be performance art.

Relax, Ford is gone. What we are in the process of developing is a team like nothing we have seen since Majerus was our HC.

Is the starting line up for SC going to be; Avila, Gibby, Swope, Anya, and Johnson? First  4 off the bench; Thames, Casey, Dotzler, Hughes? Sight unseen it also seems like Pikaar is making a case for some MPG. He looked like Cooper Flagg on that drive and dunk against Rockhurst. I know he’s not in the Flagg stratosphere but it still looked strong.

Good time to re-guess our rotations.  No questions on Avila, Jimerson, Swope and Anya.  Schertz said this week that there were 6 players that have elevated above the rest.  So is #5 Johnson?  For me the big issue was historic 28% 3FG shooting last season.  In the two exhibitions he is 4 of 5.  Keep that up and he'll go 35 minutes per game.

First two off the bench last night were Thames and Hughes.  Which one is #6?  Is Dotzler in there?

Unless Schertz has been covering his true intention, there won't be 4 off the bench against Santa Clara (until we are up 20 with 4 min to go.)  He played 6 (+1) in his main rotation last season and has said numerous times he likes short rotations.

We are all right until Schertz shows we are wrong.

Thames is 1st off bench most games.  Hughes's game is much more limited than Thames IMO.  Thames can be special IMO.

My hot take. Hughes will be the odd man out. Not sure he brings much.

He was 3-7 from 3PT. He took more 3PTRs than every other SLU player.  Swope had 6 attempts. He's not afraid to let it fly

Swope had one beautiful step back 3. Reminded me of Caitlin Clark.

If a person's main contribution is volume stationary three-point shooting, I don't see it how that person gets enough minutes as the 9th player in the rotation to have a meaningful contribution.  The reason Coach Schertz mentioned that McCottrey has the potential to change our ceiling is because he's the best driver on the roster.  He does something nobody else can do.

If Hughes is in the rotation I suspect it's because he has developed into a glue guy.  The streaky 3-point shooter we've seen thus far in his career won't cut it.

I’m thinking the same thing. It baffles me how people think Larry and Kellen are comparable.

Let’s ask the obvious. Ford had what on paper a sweet 16 team in 22-23. They failed for whatever reason. Is this squad better and deeper? Obviously Avila, Swope, and Gibby give us hope. But it’s what’s behind them that will make the difference. Sight unseen I like Anya, Johnson, Thames, Dotzler, and Hughes. Those are the guys that can make the difference between a 22-8 team or a 28-2 team. Do they have it or not?

That’s why they play the games. Enjoy the journey (hopefully). I will say I stuck out the Billikens WBB team through some really bad preseasons the past two years, but the reward of an NCAA appearance and WNIT Championship made it worth it.
