brianstl
This would definitely get the coaching carousel spinning again. It would almost certainly lead to at least a couple big time players at least dipping their toes into the portal.
MusicCityBilliken
Kind of like when Donovan went to the Thunder.
billikenbill
I’m guessing he takes the job. Lebron wants him. Looks like if Anthony Davis gives the OK, then it’s a done deal. I could see him failing at it though with his over the top intensity rubbing his players the wrong way.
TheA_Bomb
Would be interesting if this happened then UCONN hires Donovan. BD apparently told UK he'd listen but after the Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs and UK couldn't wait.

3star_recruit
The only thing making the Lakers relevant is Lebron. Maybe Hurley could marginally improve their standing but Lebron has at best 2 years left as a top 10 player. Then the Lakers will be in full rebuild mode, as they were in the final Kobe years. Sure, Hurley could double his salary for a few years but he would also triple his stress. billiken_roy and dlarry like this
cgeldmacher
Hurley saw that he would be the Lakers coach for a few years before fans wanted him fired (it's a constant carousel), or he could continue being UConn's coach in perpetuity and he chose stability. thatskablamo, billiken_roy and Lord Elrond like this
TheA_Bomb
I wouldn't want to be pressured into drafting Bronny for a publicity stunt, knowing I have Lebron for maybe 2 more seasons then a rebuild. If he 3peats he's discussed as one of the all time greats. billiken_roy likes this

TheChosenOne
Am I the only who thinks Hurley coaching in the pros would be a disaster? I don’t think his shtick would go over real well with grown men making millions of dollars. Maybe he doesn't want to live in Lalaland. Oh, and he doesn't need the money, and he is on or near the top of the heap in the college basketball. LeBron will turn 40 this year, and although a very good player, he's not what he was. Maybe Hurley does not need the pressure that comes with trying to coach a bunch of "divas". billiken_roy likes this
Compton
This tells me that Hurley is doing things the right way. Perhaps no one's hands are 100% clean in the NCAA these days (or maybe they are since the money is now allowed!?), but the guys with skeletons in the closet take the money and run. billiken_roy likes this

thetorch
I bet Hurley would leave to coach a good team. The Lakers are bad. In no way shape or form a contender and won't be for years. Not many superstars on the come up waiting for a chance to go there.

Taj79
Since Phil Jackson left, the average tenure of a Laker head coach is like 2 to 3 years. Of course, $70 million means you never have to work again so you weigh both sides. I wouldn't want LeBron at any time, especially now and with the draft stunt that is his kid.
