If not getting into the Big East was not a fireable offense and slowly watching entire program melt for ten years overall...I'd think he's in line for another raise at SLU with current leadership.

You are so off base on the big East thing.   We were never formally invited and the opportunity that was discussed was not going to be a good deal for slu if offered.

In the final analysis it all comes down to Goodwin. If he stays we will be ok...if not, I don't see it.  I want to be optimistic but how can we with the current administration in charge?  If by some miracle there is a good outcome, most of the credit should go to those on this board who fought back.  This board has more than its share of bickering but its unity in fighting this travesty has been admirable.

I agree, but I just don’t see Goodwin staying baring a favorable appeal. He can transfer to Northwestern (his supposed 2nd choice) or another school and be taking classes. If he stays he loses this summer, this Fall, next Spring, and next summer. He loses this semester either way. This is why I am concerned we lose him. I just hope he does what is best for him at this point and that SLU fixes as much as they can with what they are unfairly doing to him.

Either way, SLU will recover. It just may take a couple years. Don’t forget we were a top ten team 5 years ago. We can eventually get back.

You all wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning with all this doom and gloom?

Gotta have hope that the appeals process plus the power of Travis ford recruiting can keep this ship afloat.

Hangovers make me cranky.

Thanks for the optimistic outlook!!

Chris May should be held accountable for not having a program in place that warns our student athletes against participating in any of these actions, having been there and witnessed what resulted from S1 (another “consensual” encounter). Every basketball player should go to a “scared straight” type seminar the day they hit campus, which enlightens them to the ridiculous way these things have and apparently will be handled. There is no way an AD who has overseen two of these dumpster fires can just be given a free pass, imo.

student body that has heaved enough threats his way that he has security at his classes and can’t live on campus.

This is the first I’ve heard of this. Threats made against Goodwin???

I am repeating the info that the players have had security escorts. I think it’s name calling and stuff, but I am repeating what was mentioned including in the note about accusers and accused being in the same class.

I think we are just looking at a 2-4 year rebuild. I am not optimistic that Goodwin stays (especially if evidence shows he did very little wrong).  I hope he does.

Thatch is more important than Gordon right now (in my opinion). We NEED guards now and we are most likely losing at least Roby and Goodwin for next year. Bess is also at risk. We even lose Hines who would certainly have PT next year if he wasn’t graduating. I still don’t see Goodwin taking a year off of school and basketball to stay at an institution that railroaded him and among a student body that has heaved enough threats his way that he has security at his classes and can’t live on campus. He can just go to another school, continue his education, and get a fresh start. In fact, he can probably have a masters when he is done playing if he goes to another school where his academic career will be uninterrupted. Now he may lose this entire semesters academic work which could change things for the masters. If he stays he would possibly lose this semester, this summer, next fall, next spring, and next summers semesters. That is a lot of academic progress to put on hold. It is in effect 5 semesters including this one  He would have to return and work his tail off just to get an undergraduate degree from SLU

Either way, things are not that bad long term. We just NEED guards and a bunch of them. Ford also needs winning seasons to help his recruiting. This year looks like it might be losing season #3 for him. As that number rises it gets tougher and tougher to attract top talent. I think Ford has been a great coach.

No way Chris May leaves. We should be on the road to recovery right as his contract extension is running out. The timing might work really well for him.

I really enjoy your posts, but I disagree with this analysis.  If Goodwin is gone (and if he’s being called names by students on campus, then no way he stays through a suspension), then this is a 5-10 year rebuild.  Gordon ain’t coming under that scenario (I think he’s much more valuable than Thatch regardless of how the situation plays out).  After Gordon and Goodwin are gone, the other dominos will fall (thatch and Pearson going elsewhere, grad transfers, etc).

If Goodwin is gone (and I suspect he is), then we’re fuoked from a competitive standpoint.

I literally stopped reading after this

Sounds nuts on paper but really we are hurting big time @ the 1 & 2. Seems like those are 2 positions Ford would be best at recruiting which he surely was with JG so I'm hoping he finds us a backcourt stud for next season assuming no JG.

If that is true, why would they want to stay even if it is overturned? Why not transfer somewhere that will appreciate you.

They don't have escorts to protect them. They are suspects in a sexual assault so the escorts are to protect women from them. I know it sounds crazy.

Good grief the doom and gloom on this thread we ain't dead yet so I have to wait and see what happens.

I am with Rich and Kshoe on the future long as Ford stays no one transfers and we keep the recruits and sign a guy like Verge in the spring.

I think what is possible is to continue the pressure on Freddy pee pee and get him fired by holding back donations for that reason is a great start.  I will yell fire Pestello at the rest of the games and write the school every month he is employed.

I also think what is possible is our head coach and assistants are top shelf people and will be able to weather the storm.

We only get hurt when Ford and staff pull off bringing us back and Freddy pee pee and the other band of idiots remain and Ford and staff move on too much greener pastures.

Fire Pestello now!

That would be after the dinner where they tried to convince Pestello that they need to step and get ahold of this situation because the players are being railroaded. I'm sure Pestello's response would have been " we have to trust the process".

How can they be suspects in a sexual assault when the females admit the encounter was consensual and the police consider it not criminal?

After the MSU investigation, there is absolutely no one other than the Title IX office and/or the courts that will touch this with a 1,000 foot pole.

How does the MSU investigation, and i assume you're talking about Vassar, relate to our situation?

I don't see as much gloom in near future as some of you all. I think all suspended guys are gone probably forever except JG if it's only through next year. Bess and Foreman I think will stay. all the above signed on with Ford so he has an attraction for them. If the incoming 3 stay and those 2 that's as good a roster as we've had talent wise, plus recruiting to replace the 3 departing folks; French, Welmer, Gordon, Santos, Foreman, Bess, Thatch, Pearson, JJ. + new recruits. Now if the gloomy happens we might as well have had a plane crash as far as recovery goes. So in a familiar space for us 50/50

I agree except I'm doubtful, at this point, if Welmer ever comes back. Bess, Forerman, and JJ are back regardless, and French likely. The key to next season is whether or not JGood stays, regardless if he is playing next season.

I could handle all of this gloom and doom more easily if the players were all guilty. But they're not.

Where is @TheOne to bring some positivity to this. He's good at that.

I can’t predict everything, but the good news is we’re going to win today.

Wish they would of gone escort route instead of co-ed back in September.
