Old guy
All I can say is quoting Napoleon when he said: "Victory has many fathers, defeat is an orphan." No one, but no one will take responsibility for the last two years. As far as everyone (inside) is concerned, all of the blame was Crews' and Crews' alone. Oh no, no, no, it was not me said everyone...

cheeseman
I have no inside info on who was the decider on hiring Crews just repeating what some have asserted. What I do know is that Biondi micromanaged everything so why would it be so far fetched that it was his decision to hire Crews. Roy, how do you know that Biondi had zero say in Crews hiring? Willie, I never bought the COY reason for hiring Crews - that is a weak approach - hire a guy who won an award that honestly most knew he got it because of how people felt for RM but at this point it all really doesn't matter. willie
You are right it doesn't matter. But you don't fire someone who has success even if you don't think it's a good fit. Biondi was not that into basketball. I don't know who said he was involved but I don't believe it.

What I do know, however, is that you don't hire a guy to aa 5 year contract if he doesn't have the track record. Success as an interim coach is not the same. WestCoastBilliken
Ford is going to get us our best recruiting class in recent memory before he leaves here. You all watch.
Dwayne's_World
I'm not sure I buy this Biondi told May to hire Crews story. Crews was national coach of the year. May had no choice. Cheese you did end up being right but Crews deserved to be hired and he certainly deserved to be fired. The most comical part of the Crews era was his "coach of the year" award. Using Majerus' players and system to get a huge contract, then running an entire basketball program straight into the ground. Also, if Ford manages to land some of these elite recruits, I don't see how we won't be competing with VCU for the top spot in the A10 every year. It feels so good to finally have hope again for this program.

RiseAndGrind
"we have shooters. We need makers" I'm hopeful recruiting picks up, but I'll get excited once a 4 star sets foot on campus.

JMM28
I'm not going to get excited by offers to 4 star recruits. It actually makes me more skeptical of the hire. If he starts getting commitments from 4 star types, then I'll start changing my mind.

"Here kid, come play for us at SLU." Boom, offer made. Mark it up in Verbal Commits. Let's land some players before we make any judgments, good, bad, or indifferent. Doesn't mean jack unless we start getting them on campus and eventually get a few commits.

TheChosenOne
Jordan Goodwin is having another big spring as one of the more productive players early in EYBL play and collecting offers this weekend from Texas A&M, Texas, Iowa State, and UConn. Pistol
SLU appears to be in relatively early on this kid (mentioned on the previous page): Koby Thomas: SF, 6-5, 190, Philadelphia, PA (Imhotep Institute) – Offers: SLU, Chattanooga, Hampton, Binghamton, Coppin State. Interest: LaSalle, Florida, Cal, Temple, Hofstra, Rider, UALR, Delaware State. Latest News: Thomas picked up his SLU offer after a nice showing for Team Philly on the Adidas Gauntlet circut. Scouting Report: Thomas is a high-level athlete who loves to play in transition. He has a raw skill set, relying too much on his athletic advantage at this stage. SLU_Nick
No mention of Ford recruiting Goodwin lately. I wonder if a conversation happened. Either way, I am not of the mind that if Crews would have offered early during the Tatum recruitment, then Goodwin would be a Billiken. If he wants to come here great, if he wants to go anywhere else, that isnt a reflection of a SLU failure. That is a result of Goodwin wanting something different for his basketball and college experience.

billiken_roy
BTW my understanding is that Goodwin has been the best player on the eagles team thus far this spring.

Clock_Tower
Crews always liked height. Even from the beginning, Tanner and Reggie were tall as is Mike Crawford. Our most successful coaches in Spoon and Majerus cared more about their ability to play the game. Huge warning sign to all of us but nothing we could have done.
