brianstl
Who was the last St Louis Eagle that SLU got to commit to the program? It has been at least a decade hasn't it?
SLURadioBoy
For those who have yet to see the SI article from last month about FBJT, it is now online.

slufan13
Have those advocating an offer to Jordan Barnes seen him play? I've never seen him. His stats for the Eagles are similar to Reynolds and Roby for their AAU teams. Now those 3 are all different so I'm not saying that means much, but between that and what I've been able to read, I think he's a fringe A10 player. We wouldn't need him until his junior year (hopefully) so I'd take a shot on him. Between helping our changes at Tatum and strengthening our relationship with the Eagles, I think it's worth it. Also, something to keep in mind no matter what your opinion on Barnes, just because we offer doesn't mean we'll get him.
Bills_06
Looks like from the Billikensblog twitter, they are trying to set up an interview with Barnes so could be some new info coming soon. Is that somebody on here who has been running that? Several good pieces of info from that site very recently. Keep up the work whoever it is. ACE
I think it is really Stu. He decided it's the only way he can satisfy his itch to consistently get out SLU-related news without the Commies at the P-D putting the clamps on him.
The Pelican
I've seen Barnes play at least six times this year. He is a good player but I would not say he is dominant nor has great size or lightning quickness. Considering he is playing well in the circuit, he will get some interest that we would otherwise not get during the high school season. I will say he plays with good control and is a decent shooter at best. His speed and size would worry me at this level. I will be curious to see how he develops this summer. I think this class is so loaded that an offer is best kept in the pocket for an outstanding player, ala Curry. It's all about relationships, not offers. The Pelican
As far as the bloggers go, I know they are creating relationships as well to get some scoop. It's nice to see someone take the reigns and dig for info. I think you will see some info coming from these guys in the near future.

Kids come to SLU to play. Whether you consider them "true" point guards or not, we already have 3 guys auditioning for the point guard position. Barnes isn't a clear upgrade over any of them. Who wants to ride the pine at SLU just to be a backup point guard in 2 years?

doowop
Curry is a 6'7 PF. He plays for Southwest Christian Academy in Little Rock and for Arkansas Wings Elite for AAU. Thank you,"thetorch".

I agree with the assessment about his athleticism but not about his shooting ability, he can flat out stroke it. He's almost automatic if you go under a ball screen and he's a good spot up shooter as well. He's undersized but he's got that moxy/arrogance you love out of a playmaker. He was the second best player on CBC's state title team and he was only a sophomore. He hit a tough 3 at the buzzer to beat SLUH and nearly hit an impossible one to force OT against Webster. He's a playmaker/clutch and a kid I wouldn't bet against at the next level.

BillikensBlog
Here is a new blog entry about Barnes. Looks like he is definitely interested in SLU and the possibility of playing with Tatum in college. Thanks for posting. I'd like to thank everyone who has promoted this blog and has given us kind words. It's a lot of work but we really appreciate it and hope to grow our following. We'd like to keep all discussion of this blog on here and on twitter. Stay tuned for more updates and let us know if there's anything you'd like to see. I expect you'll see major changes as the summer goes on, but I'll leave it at that as a cliffhanger.
slufan13
At least Barnes doesn't seem like he's sick of playing with Tatum or anything. The ideal situation I guess is to tell Jayson that if he commits, we'll offer Barnes.
RiseAndGrind
Sounds like he wants to go to SLU. And isn't holding it against the coaching staff that they haven't offered yet. Would be not ideal if Creighton was able to grab him and Barnes ends up excelling in the BE. (Yes. That would means Barnes has improved immensely, which is definitely no certainty)

The ideal situation I guess is to tell Jayson that if he commits, we'll offer Barnes. This theory makes the most sense. I actually love the tactic. Crews isn't going to lie to FBJT about making this deal. The dialogue where Tatum says, "offer Barnes first, and then that will help me make my decision", does not sound like a situation that could logically occur. The Crews regime is about to earn an A+ in recruiting or an F. I cannot see them awarding anything in between.

brianstl
There are good reasons to offer Barnes outside of Tatum. The program desperately needs to build a relationship with the Eagles. There is precedent for this in the program. Barnes might be a slight reach at this point, but Barnes is better and has a higher upside than Salecich did. Majerus offered Salecich to build a relationship with the Australian Institute of Sport.
slufanskip
I've never seen him play and only know what I've read, however, he seems to me like one of those guys that outplays the expectations. Some guys despite their deficiencies on paper just have a knack.

Majerus offered Salecich to build a relationship with the Australian Institute of Sport. I'm pro Barnes and I'm pro building a relationship with the Eagles but I'm not sure your analogy to the AIS is really all that applicable. We ended up getting only one more player (Ellis) from the AIS so it's not like we built some huge pipeline. Rather the pipeline to Oceana was all Chris Harriman. SLU's relationship with the Eagles is important and a pipeline should be developed. But Rich Grawer once said that if you recruit local kids you'd better be sure they can play because if they can't and you bury them on the bench, you'll never hear the end of it from the local coaches. An easy way to make sure the Eagles pipeline never develops would be to bring in a player and never play him because he sin't good enough or even worse run him off later. RiseAndGrind
I think Justin Tatum would certainly appreciate the move as well. Not sure how much, if any, local coaches sway recruits but another positive. I have myself firmly convinced that if Barnes has another big weekend at the Peach Jam he should be a Billiken. But, as Shoe stated above, don't want to "use" Barnes and burn bridges. or, more importantly, over a kid just to get his teammate.
