  2. I consider myself a pretty optimistic person. But after 10 months of lockdown w/minimal social interaction and not being able to travel to visit family because of my age and a medical reason, I have to admit isolation takes a toll. When Billiken BB returned I finally had something to boost my spirits. And then Team Blue gets Covid and shuts it down for what seems like an eternity. I surely can't wait for the Bills to take to the court once more. I'm not down or depressed just fed up and frustrated with this infernal plague, as are most people in my age group. Some tips to get thru it: happy hours on the phone with friends both old and new help, and listen to some good old 60s and 70s rock while sipping on the Glen Morangie. Music and single malt scotch are great medicines. Soon I'll be getting back on the golf course, so I have that to look forward to. Also, I was able today to secure appts for my Covid shots. Still, there's nothing like watching this edition of Billiken BB to really take one's mind off the tragedies that are taking place in the outside world. Let's go Bills! Come back strong and show the A10 what a great team looks like. God bless all, mask up, thank God every day you wake up, and stay safe. We will beat this thing.

  3. I'm shocked that you apparently don't realize how arrogant you sound. I don't have a problem with someone making a comment about the action, if they're telling me how they feel about it, as opposed to trying to tell me how I should feel about it. If you had said, "I'm disappointed they chose to do that," it would be something I could read without offense. Instead, you essentially attempted to impose your beliefs on the reader by saying, "they chose to embarrass themselves." Really? Who *chooses* to embarrass themselves? No. They didn't embarrass themselves, but they expressed themselves. It's their right to do so, if the coaches allow it. Personally, I don't think standing or not standing for anthem really means anything, but it's tradition. So, if it's a tradition, then bucking that tradition brings attention to the action, giving it meaning it wouldn't usually have. I'm not hypocritical. I don't have a problem with occasional expressions of personal beliefs on here. What I don't like is when threads become full of browbeating and bullying debate trying to make the "opposite" side accept the errors of their ways. It's not going to happen. Liberals aren't going to suddenly become conservative, and Conservatives aren't going to suddenly become liberal. Frankly, I'm neither, but in some things I agree with more liberal ideas, and in others I agree with more conservative ideas. I could be wrong, but in my opinion, the conservative side seems to be more aggressive in trying to convert the other side in this forum. MAN, I miss Billikens basketball!

  4. Cut it out. You keep pushing politics on the board and then racing to play the victim anytime someone pushes back. It is getting really, really old. I do not like when anyone brings up politics. I understand that politics and the real world often overlap making it unavoidable at times. But please, please, please stop. I am sorry if this post makes you feel persecuted. If it is any consolation, I am a Free Trade Globalist which means that I am really a man without a party these days.

  5. I don’t know why anyone gives a shite about the politics of anyone else on the board. When I have high fived other season ticket holders in my section, I didn’t ask them to show me a picture of their ballot first. They are Billiken fans and that is good enough for me.

  6. there is no defense or explanation imo that defends not standing at attention for "The Star Spangled Banner". IMO, If America is that terrible, you should leave. Obviously you believe there must be someplace better to be a resident and citizen.

  7. My aunt, in her 70s, suffered from pneumonia and had tested positive for COVID-19 a few months ago. Most people fight to beat this thing, just like any other illness, but some succumb. When it's your time, it's your time. I pray for the eradication of this contagion. And it WILL happen; it's just a matter of time. In the meantime, we have to keep our spirits up, because mental illness and depression can be just as devastating, if not more so.

  9. There are a number of posters on this board who are more interested in getting into arguments online about what they perceive to be biases than they are in discussing Billikens basketball. I would highly recommend putting these posters onto your “ignore” list so that you don’t see their posts. It greatly improves the reading experience. And for any posters who choose to continue reading their posts, I personally would hope you don’t quote tweet and/or engage in their senile lines of argument, as it’s the only way those posts get shown to people who would otherwise be able to ignore them.

  11. Coach Ford on KMOX this Sunday Morning: He covered a lot of the issues he discussed Friday (see third post above). Team got positives for 5 to 7 days after the initial two positives on Dec 30. That has staggered the return of players. Said protocols through City and SLU are some of the most restrictive he has heard of. [I believe the 7 day slow return was his one of the issues that differs from other areas.] "We are a week or two from playing a game." He doesn't know how strict the NCAA will be for the 13 game minimum for the Tourney. He mentioned how the Ohio State football team got a minimum criteria removed by the Big 10. Coach said again that the 26th probably will be the next game. We are in uncharted territory. He hasn't seen / heard of any other teams with 80% positives. The team had a 2 PM Zoom daily through the quarantine. They focused on one item for each Zoom, showing clips with positive plays. They showed A10 highlights, and discussed how teams and selected players were performing. They showed NBA plays and how SLU needs to learn from those plays. He watched a lot of A10 games, looking at inbound plays, etc. He has 'enough scribbles' to put in new offense and defense plays.

  12. sure they can sit or ignore the flag and/or the anthem. but then dont be surprised if other americans that do respect and love our country shake their heads in disgust and are upset for that show of disrespect. we have that right as well. all i am saying if you think there is a better place to be that you think will support your feelings for america, maybe you should go there or at least take steps behind the scenes to see if your legislators can initiate action to make those changes that represent your feelings without tearing up the country, starting fights or even worse examples of violence and disrespect, etc. you arent going to make america better by tearing it down. one would think after january 6th, you would see that steps in that direction are not making things better. us conservatives told you liberals that all summer long and we were told we were wrong and that level of discourse was needed. amazing how all at once you seem to be saying the same thing. and sure, silently sitting or kneeling is not the same as burning down a venture of throwing bottles at a policeman, or striking a capital security person, but it is headed in the same direction and the wrong way imo.

  14. Says who? What makes you entitled to feel such a thing is a requirement for citizenship? It's not that the country is terrible, but some people feel some subsets of people have been oppressing other subsets, and they should change, more than people should want to leave. Some oppressed people's ancestors were brought to this country against their will, and the establishment of this country was coerced upon the indigenous people, who hadn't invited them. Or those who continue to oppress other people born in this country could live up to the words of the Declaration of Independence.

  15. There's been a lot of turnover in spots 18-30 over the last three weeks. Blue blood and near blue bloods continue to underperform. Duke, UNC and Michigan St are out of the top 25 altogether. Teams with great records three weeks ago, like Arkansas and Xavier, turned out to be paper tigers. We are benefitting from unprecedented parity. And if the coaching staff had not landed that NC State game, this 3 week run in the top 25 never would have happened. You never know when a tireless work ethic will pay off.

  16. I haven't read what Durando wrote, but there's a difference between reporting on actions and pronouncing a judgment that people "chose to embarrass themselves."

  17. Since when did patriotism and loving your country equate to pushing politics? Americans historically rallied around the flag..it was a symbol of pride and unity.

  20. Concern for COVID myocarditis which could hypothetically lead to dysrrhythmias and potentially sudden cardiac death. That is the big fear with college sports this season after some early research suggested that it was very common in older hospitalized patients. More recent research in collegiate athletes however, has shown that it is not as common in younger athletes as initially hypothesized that it could be (although it remains a major concern).

  23. I mean, this is a good reason why they shouldn’t be in the league. Dayton is nowhere near postseason quality, but this loss alone would be enough to keep an iffy team out of the 68

  26. I’m doing just fine... I just pointed out i that I don’t enjoy reading about Trump hate and vile language on a BASKETBALL BOARD... do you????? There are scores of political based message boards that I could refer you to if you need help. If the moderators intend to turn this board into a bastion of liberal talking points, then they are well on their way to success....

  28. be honest, there is no liberal cause you would be embarrassed by...the players obligation when playing in a SLU event is to represent SLU, not themselves....Stu found it newsworthy, and Steve allowed it to be on his board, so what's your problem with someone commenting on it???? you would have some credibility if you ever posted concern about a liberal concern being posted, but for some reason, comments from those individuals never garners your interest...why is that???? you would think you would be embarrassed by your hypocrisy continually being exposed......

  29. It’s not about whining, but stating the obvious... their political agenda is now more important to them than having a quality message board..They continually allow hate and filth from the same group... and ironically it will eventually destroy this once great site...

Did I strike a nerve by noting you have an interesting pattern of reactions??. Your plea for the nonsense to stop is about as convincing as a democrat asking for unity as we are marched off to deprogramming camp
