Recommended Posts

According to Rivals, in addition to Curry and Sneed we have offered the following:

Nick Rakocevic - 4 stars - 6'9" - Westchester, Illinois

He trimmed his list to ten: Creighton, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, Virginia, and Wisconsin with Iowa considered the favorite.

I realized I hadn't updated this since November, but have a decent 2016 list going. I'm going through name by name and just haven't gotten to these guys yet, so if any of these are no longer guys we're recruiting, let me know:

Eddie Ekiyor (He will be on the list)

Dishon Lowery (He will be on the list)

Jahlil Osby (His overall recruitment seems to have cooled dramatically in 2015.)

Ashton West (Leaving him on)

Devon Sams (Taking him off for now; there's nothing to show interest in the past year that I can find.)

Skyler Nash (Leaving him on)

Rapolas Ivanauskas (Northwestern)

Christian Hyatt (He appears to be getting attention from lower-division schools)

Clayton Hughes (Leaving him on)

Also, here's a sample of the format I'm using:

Xavier Sneed: SF, 6-5, 190, Florissant, MO (Hazelwood Central)Offers: SLU, Illinois, Mizzou, Minnesota, K-State, Cincinnati, Creighton, Xavier, Wichita State. Interest: Oklahoma, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt. Latest News: Sneed plans to cut his list to 5 soon. He will attend the Lawson-Oladipo Camp. Scouting Report: Sneed has developed a reputation as a lock-down defender. He’s a streaky scorer with a lot of athleticism. He seems to be improving his shooting. Twitter: @Luh_Sneed20

Is there any section I need to add? I was thinking about a "SLU Status" section, but with some of these guys, it's hard to tell.

Also, when there are updates, I will change the color to blue for a given section.

-as to the list, clearly our staff has no concern for Gus as all of those names would provide a problem for him.........as did Jon Smiff

Whoah. I had a work-related reason that I had to listen to his show this morning. I still have as much likelihood of understanding his appeal as he does of ever correctly pronouncing "Yacobou."

All right, here's my first pass at a 2016 list for the year. We need something to help us move on from Jayson Tatum.

Some important notes, especially for those newer to the board:

-This is simply an aggregation of what I can find online about who SLU has offered and may still be interested in. Information is pulled from a variety of sources, but no pay sites. I'm not (as some long-time posters here suggested last year) simply scraping a site like Verbal Commits for this. I use that site, but launch with Google and also use information from ESPN, Yahoo, Twitter, 247Sports, Future 150, YouTube, MaxPreps, local news sites, other recruiting forums, and anywhere else that might be useful.

-I don't have any media credentials or connections or anything else along those lines. I don't talk to any players directly. I think I'm technically still considered a SLU booster since I'm a former season ticket holder and Billiken Club member.

-There may be stale facts (particularly on the offer and interest lists) or omissions. If you see something wrong or that isn't there, let me know. This includes whether you see a name that shouldn't be there or don't see a name that should.

-I can't keep up with all recruiting news all the time. I am happy to build the list but rely in part on the rest of you to help me with updates (see above).

-I'm trying to figure out whether to add something like 'SLU Status' for each player or whether to include SLU-related info in the Latest News part. Maybe it would make sense to add a section for my own view, since I really can only give my best guess as to where we stand with these guys.

Interest

Kostas Antetokounmpo: 6-6, 190, Milwaukee, WI (Dominican)Offers: Iowa State. Interest: SLU, Marquette, Kansas, Florida State, Maryland, Minnesota, St. John’s, Texas, Wake Forest. Latest News: Antetokounmpo has been making the rounds this spring and summer, getting to as many camps and events as he can and drawing a lot of eyes. Iowa State was first to offer but many, many more should be on the way any time now. Scouting Report: Every coach in the nation should be keeping an eye on the younger brother of the Greek Freak. He’s still growing and looks an awful lot like his older brother, with his albatross arms. He’s raw but the upside is virtually unlimited. Twitter: @alexadetokoubo

Jordan Barnes: PG, 5-11, 150, St. Louis, MO (CBC)Offers: Northern Kentucky, South Alabama, Missouri State, Indiana State, SIUE, IUPUI, Arkansas State, Nebraska-Omaha. Eddie Ekiyor: PF, 6-9, 215, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (New Hampton)Offers: Xavier, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Vanderbilt, Miami, Virginia Tech, Providence, Wake Forest, K-State, Villanova, Duquesne, UMass, Arkansas State. Interest: SLU, Duke, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Syracuse, San Diego State. Latest News: Ekiyor has played well on the AAU circuit this summer, including dominating the CYBL Showdown Championships in July. He expects to make visits, narrow his list down soon, and choose in August or September. He said Xavier, Vandy, Oregon, K-State, Florida, and Wake Forest are working the hardest. Scouting Report: Considered the top uncommitted big man in Canada’s 2016 class, Ekiyor is an excellent rebounder and shot blocker, but can also score. Twitter: @Eddie_Ekiyor

Tarkus Ferguson: SG, 6-3, 180, Belleville, IL (Althoff) - Offers: SIUC, UIC. Interest: SLU, Cal, Indiana State, Missouri State, Evansville, SIUE. Latest News: Ferguson has had a nice showing with the SW Illinois Jets this summer and picked up offers from SIUC and UIC. Scouting Report: Ferguson is a stud athlete who can fill up a stat sheet. He needs to work on shot selection. Twitter: @T_Ferg15

Will Gladson: PF, 6-8, 190, St. Louis, MO (Chaminade)Offers: SIUE, IUPUI, Brown. Interest: SLU. Latest News: Gladson picked up an offer from Brown after a solid showing at the Peach Jam. He visited IUPUI with Mike Lewis in June. Scouting Report: Gladson was on the high-major radar early in his high school career but proceeded to tear both ACLs in consecutive seasons, considerably slowing him down. He remains a skilled, smart big man with good post moves and a consistent jumper, but development has been slowed by ACL tears in each knee in consecutive seasons. Twitter: @WILL_to_win_11

Brendon Gooch: SF, 6-5, 160, Belleville, IL (Althoff)Offers: Western Illinois, San Jose State, SIUC, SIUE. Interest: SLU, Illinois, Purdue, Nebraska, Northwestern, Indiana State, Missouri State, Drake, Evansville. Latest News: Not a whole lot of Gooch news this summer, but he’s playing with the SW Illinois Jets on the AAU circuit. Scouting Report: Gooch has a good wingspan for his frame, allowing him to play a bit bigger than he is. He’s still raw but has improved his shot, range, and confidence. Twitter: @Bgooch22

Elyjah Goss: SF, 6-7, 195, Bolingbrook, IL (Plainfield East)Offers: Western Illinois, IUPUI. Interest: SLU, Iowa, Northern Illinois, Loyola-Illinois, UWGB, UMKC, Fairfield, Wofford, Sam Houston State. Latest News: Goss has attended camps at SLU, UWGB, Loyola, and NIU. Interest: SLU, Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Virginia, Notre Dame, Belmont. Latest News: Hughes picked up offers from DePaul, UCF, and Murray State this summer. He had a nice showing at the Next Up Recruits Elite Camp. Scouting Report: Hughes is a dangerous shooter who can handle the ball, finish strong above the rim, and make outstanding passes off the dribble. He’s a deceptive athlete with an unusual-looking form. Twitter: @ClaymaneeeeYooo

Sha’Markus Kennedy: PF, 6-7, 185, Tuscaloosa, AL (Northridge)Offers: None. Interest: SLU, Richmond, VCU, Murray State, Wright State, South Alabama, Samford, Troy, Tennessee Tech, Texas-Pan Am, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Abilene Christian. Latest News: Kennedy was invited to attend the Southeast College Exposure Camp (8/1 in Birmingham). He visited UT-Chattanooga last month. Scouting Report: Kennedy is a true late bloomer, pretty much an unknown until this spring, when he had some good showings on the Adidas circuit. He’s a natural shot blocker despite being undersized because he’s long and has outstanding leaping ability. He’s also a good rebounder. Twitter: @elite_dunker

Michael Lewis: SG, 6-2, 170, St. Louis, MO (Chaminade)Offers: Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Central Michigan, IUPUI. Interest: SLU, Xavier, Kent State, San Jose State, Boise State, Eastern Kentucky, Nebraska-Omaha. Latest News: Lewis received an offer from Eastern Illinois. He visited IUPUI with Gladson in June. Interest: SLU, Penn, Murray State, Florida Gulf Coast, Wofford, Appalachian State, Troy, Tennessee Tech, North Florida, Arkansas-Little Rock, Samford, Hofstra. Latest News: SLU is one of a number of schools showing interest during the early summer. Scouting Report: Lowery has an extremely high motor and puts it to good use on the glass. He’s a strong post player with a good feel in the paint on both ends, but is a raw athlete who needs to work on defense and conditioning. Twitter: TeamLowery2016

Jerry Myles: PG, 6-5, 201, Davenport, IA (United Township)Offers: Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Creighton, Loyola-Illinois, Illinois State. Interest: SLU, Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin, Northern Iowa. Latest News: Myles was not on the United Township roster for a summer event. His situation remains a mystery, as always. Scouting Report: Myles is a big, athletic guard with the ability to take over a game. He’s a strong defender, shooter, and passer. He started his career at Davenport West, transferred to Sunrise Christian (KS), and is now at United Township on the IL side of the Quad Cities. He’s rumored to be leaving there, as well.

Skyler Nash: SG, 6-5, 205, Chicago, IL (Riverside Brookfield) - Offers: Kansas State. Interest: SLU, Wisconsin, DePaul, Marquette, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa State, West Virginia, Yale. Latest News: Nash had a cancerous tumor removed in May. He is in remission but is being monitored regularly and requires quarterly colonoscopies. Nash has visited SLU, Michigan, DePaul, Purdue, and Marquette, and many others are interested but haven’t come through with offers. He transferred from Whitney Young to Riverside Brookfield for his senior season and is considering prep school afterward. Scouting Report: Nash is a strong, physical wing who finishes strong and rebounds the perimeter well. Twitter: @NashSkyler

Ashton West: G, 6-2, 180, Blue Springs, MO (Legacy Charter, Greenville, SC) - Offers: Davidson, Cornell, Miami-Ohio, Weber State, Jacksonville, Cal State-Bakersfield, Liberty. Interest: SLU, VCU, George Washington, Mizzou, Marquette, South Florida, Kansas, K-State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Utah, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Cal, Rutgers, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Gonzaga, Southern Miss, SMU, UMKC, Belmont, Morehead State, Weber State, Florida Gulf Coast, Eastern Kentucky, Robert Morris, Brown, Norfolk State, Jacksonville State, Gardner-Webb, Binghamton, Stony Brook, Idaho, Idaho State, Tennessee State, Georgia State, Delaware, NC Central, Abilene Christian. Latest News: West will take an unofficial visit to Vandy in August. He will be attending Legacy Charter School in Greenville, SC. He has bounced around to at least three different high schools. SLU was first reported to show interest in West around late October. The level of interest picked up in the fall, but it’s tough to tell which offers and interested schools are still active. Scouting Report: A pass-first guard and good outside shooter, West is limited athletically but sat out a whole season with 3 torn ligaments and reclassified as a 2016 recruit. Twitter: @AshtonPG3

Here's what I can tell about our recruitment of each of these guys at the moment:

Curry: We definitely are involved but I think his recruitment is passing us by. The Arkansas offer is huge. Program on the rise, the big in-state school, and their style matches up with his game perfectly. I don't think the same could be said for our style of play.

Edwards: I'd really like to see this offer confirmed in a second place, but I'll leave him on the offer list for now. He's a really tough, talented PG in a small frame and his recruitment has blown up in the past 3-4 months. The offers are starting to pour in, and they're from bigger programs closer to home. I'd be surprised if we're really in this one.

McDowell: Really intriguing player - 6-6 PG with a very high ceiling. USC, Cal, and SMU appear to be the leaders at this point. It'd be great to get a visit out of him.

Sneed: It's amazing how little we know about where this local kid stands in his recruitment. I know our offers is still fresh, but as to what he's thinking right now, your guess is as good as mine.

Antetokounmpo: I love that we're one of the schools tracking him, but I'd be blown away if we're actually in the mix. He's the Greek Freak's brother; certainly one of the most exciting NBA player's siblings has a million different people tracking him.

Barnes: The subject of much debate around here. To offer or not to offer, especially now that we know Tatum is off the table? I haven't seen him play enough to make up my mind, but at this point he looks like a stretch to me.

Barrett: He seems like a nice player, but I think his size is keeping the offers from coming in. Still, a lot of schools are watching and SLU is certainly one of them. I could see him being a spring signee somewhere.

Ekiyor: No way. He's a stud, he's preparing to trim his list, and he's talking about 6 or so programs that are working him the hardest right now. No chance.

Gladson: My heart goes out to this kid. He had Kansas, Illinois, and Mizzou inviting him out for visits early on - possibly for Tatum primarily and also Cook, but still, he was considered a high-level prospect. And then he tore one ACL. And then he came back and tore the other. So he's still a kid with a lot of skills for his size, but he looks really slow out there and I'm not sure whether he's going to ever be the player people thought he could be. SLU's still watching, but his most intriguing offer right now is Brown.

Gooch: One of the Althoff Big Four, he's probably #4 in most people's books. I'm thinking SLU is going to pass on him if they haven't offered yet, but I am wondering whether we should just offer all four and recruit them together.

Goss: He's an intriguing player. Raw, not a whole lot of high-level interest, but I could see him panning out. We've also been involved for a while. He reminds me of Therence Mayimba, the kid we offered but who chose George Mason and took a redshirt. I could see Goss at a similar level and also taking more time (even prep school?) to condition.

Hughes: Really unorthodox but confident player. If we're going to offer, I'd do it sooner than later. Ole Miss and Mississippi State offered early and I think remain involved. But now other offers are starting to come in. He doesn't look great at first glance but I think he'd be an effective player at SLU.

Kennedy: SLU got involved early and remains the biggest name involved. He's a true late bloomer, slightly undersized but with high athleticism and potential. I want to see more video before saying whether I'd offer, but I hope SLU's staff stays in frequent contact here.

Lewis: I'm starting to think Lewis could be a pretty underrated recruit. He's the third or fourth man on a loaded Chaminade team and he doesn't play for the Eagles so he's flying way under the radar. But I saw some video from this summer and he looks at least two inches taller than he was this winter, and he's still the confident, steady, knock-down perimeter shooter he was then. He's not a point guard and unfortunately Chaminade doesn't have a natural PG among the starters, so he's drawn the PG assignment on defense and helps Tatum run the offense - but if he can play a natural SG and is no longer quite so undersized, he could be a nice get. He's got Valley/MAC-level offers right now. The A10 doesn't seem unrealistic if he grows anymore or develops another weapon.

Lowery: Added SLU interest this summer, but most other interested are mid-tier and low-tier D-I programs. He's got a big frame and needs some conditioning for sure, and he's limited athletically at this point. But he plays his ass off and really fights for rebounds. Loves contact.

Myles: This kid is a mystery. Thought to be a high-level recruit, he's transferred every single year in HS and his status for this upcoming year is also uncertain. I'm not sure what's going on but the Big Ten and Big XII programs that were all over him before seem to be more tentative at the moment. There's also nothing recent linking SLU to him, but I'll keep him on the list because literally nothing would surprise me. My crystal ball: He goes juco for a year or two and then to a BCS-level program.

Nash: Really interesting story since I last checked in with him. Doctors found a cancerous tumor in his rectum while performing an appendicitis. They removed it and he's in remission but under close monitoring, and needing quarterly colonoscopies. Every sign even before this was that he's a high-character kid, and he's been impressive in his handling of this. He's transferring from Whitney Young to Riverside Brookfield but I know he's still boys with Reynolds, so I'm hoping the SLU ties stay solid. He's also mentioned a prep year as a possibility. He should be back on the court soon and fine for his senior season.

West: Not quite Myles-level madness, but not far off. West has transferred just as much but there's at least some recent recruiting stuff happening, like offers and interest pouring in, and a Vandy visit coming up. What's hard to read is who on his ridiculous interest list is still interested, and what scouting report is most accurate. He reportedly averaged 46 PPG at a small school his sophomore year, but newer reports say he's a pass-first guard with limited scoring ability. At this point, SLU is one of many and while I'm not counting on things heating up here, I also wouldn't be surprised by anything.

Overall, there's a lot of talent here. There are also some really intriguing players. But, as always, it's so hard to tell where SLU stands relative to other programs with each of these guys. We have yet another staff who keeps things really close to the vest - not that it's working out, really. I wouldn't be surprised to see a primarily spring class for us. That might be a good thing, actually.

Top Tier (guys I'd offer and be thrilled to land):

Ekiyor

Antetokounmpo

McDowell

Curry

Edwards

Mid Tier (guys that probably deserve offers as of right now):

West

Hughes

Sneed

Nash

Ferguson

Lower Tier (guys that might be stretches, but who I'd still recruit):

Myles (would be in another tier if he has his act together)

Lowery

Kennedy

Lewis

Goss

Gooch

Gladson

Barnes

Barrett

Guys I wouldn't recruit:

None, actually, from this list. I see why we'd be interested in each of them. Not a Jolly in the bunch.

That's a good list. Nice work and appreciate the time and effort. You will be adding some IN talent to that list pretty soon

Interesting. With Kyle Guy (Virginia), Nolan Laurain (SDSU), and CJ Walker (Florida State) all committing outside, maybe SLU can help make 2016 a bad year for Indiana schools recruiting-wise.

I really like that Kyle Guy kid. Apparently he is childhood best friends with 2017 stud Michael Porter Jr. from Columbia, so UVA might be a serious player for Porter.
