Pistol
FWIW, my putting every name on the list is not a validation of a given suggestion as a good idea. There are some very, very bad ideas on that list, and some names that are just not realistic at all. But a lot of really good ones, too. Let me know if I missed any or if you have another suggestion to add. gabriel likes this

billikenfan05
Not that my opinion matters but I'll go ahead and make first cut of names I think we can all agree aren't realistically in play. (Don't care if it's irrational, I can dream on Jay Wright.) Blake Ahearn (Memphis Grizzlies assistant) John Beilein (Detroit Pistons senior advisor) Mike Brey (Atlanta Hawks assistant) Mark Byington (James Madison) Chris Carrawell (Duke assistant) Mick Cronin (UCLA) Darian DeVries (Drake) Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon) Andy Enfield (USC) Chester Frazier (Illinois assistant) Dan Geriot (Cleveland Cavaliers assistant) Mitch Henderson (Princeton) Chris Holtmann (Ohio State) Bobby Hurley (Arizona State) Alex Jensen (Dallas Mavericks assistant) Pat Kelsey (Charleston) Dustin Kerns (Appalachian State) Steve Lutz (Western Kentucky) Chris Mack (Retired) Ben McCullom (Northwest Missouri State) Bucky McMillan (Samford) Mike Morrell (UNC-Asheville) Porter Moser (Oklahoma) Dan Muller (Retired) Bryan Mullins (SIUC) Ronald Nored (Atlanta Hawks assistant) Chris Quinn (Miami Heat assistant) Josh Schertz (Indiana State) Todd Simon (Bowling Green) Dave Smart (Texas Tech assistant) Nevada Smith (Marquette assistant) Mark Turgeon (Retired) Will Wade (McNeese State) Brian Wardle (Bradley) Sundance Wicks (Green Bay) Jay Wright (Retired)

JMM28
Dan Muller did terribly at his alma mater and I am not sure he has an interest in coaching again. Bryan Mullins is closer to being fired at SIUc than he is to moving onto a bigger job. That won't stop his dad from promising recruiting pipelines from his marginal AAU program to anyone that hires him, though!

JMM28
If I am going just off that list I think... Home run - Porter, Mack. Realistic and/or solid hire - Drew, Wardle, Schertz, Holtmann, McCollum, Devries, Henderson, Byington Don't think they're going anywhere/unrealistic- Beilein, Brey, Wright, Turgeon, Kelsey Need to prove more - Wicks, Kerns, McMillan, Simon, Morrell, Lutz Retread no thanks - Hurley, Enfield, No thanks on any of the other NBA assistants. SLU isn't hiring a current college assistant either. gabriel likes this

I'm close to ruling out assistants but I'll keep Smith and Carrawell as they are currently at "private universities" Blake Ahearn (Memphis Grizzlies assistant) Mark Byington (James Madison) Chris Carrawell (Duke assistant) Darian DeVries (Drake) Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon) Andy Enfield (USC) Mitch Henderson (Princeton) Chris Holtmann (Ohio State) Pat Kelsey (Charleston) Dustin Kerns (Appalachian State) Steve Lutz (Western Kentucky) Chris Mack (Retired) Ben McCullom (Northwest Missouri State) Bucky McMillan (Samford) Mike Morrell (UNC-Asheville) Porter Moser (Oklahoma) Josh Schertz (Indiana State) Todd Simon (Bowling Green) Nevada Smith (Marquette assistant) Mark Turgeon (Retired) Brian Wardle (Bradley) Sundance Wicks (Green Bay) Jay Wright (Retired)

He feels too Travis Ford-y to me, personally. I also am not high on DeVries from Drake. I think hes #3 of the MVC coaches. He hasn't done much without his kid and a bunch of 23-26 year olds on his roster. A lot of this will depend on what all opens up as well. If Louisville, tOSU, Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, Alabama, etc. open up it will send a lot of spots spinning.

brianstl
An assistant that won’t be in the running for the SLU job but would be a really good hire for an MVC program is Tanner Bronson.

Agreed. Beilein is an interesting name to throw in there given his success at the collegiate level and his ties to St. Louis but he’s 71. We need someone who has the ability to coach here for the next 15 years. Beilein will be running for POTUS in 5 years.
