Me too.

If he starts that 'coast-to-coast' crap, he should been benched immediately. Also, TOs have been unusually low, everyone taking care of the ball, we don't need a TO machine.

I am just wondering, is this just going to be an aberration?

Did Crews have a 'Coming to Jesus Meeting'?

Did Crews completely abdicate his coaching role to Bronson and Cheaney?

How can team, that for a year and half that has been totally unbearable to watch, have a metamorphosis so quickly?

I think it's partly all of those in addition to playing some really weak defensive teams the last three games. GM, Davidson, and UMass feature the 194, 276, and 256 ranked defenses in D1 per kenpom. UMass and Davidson are in the 300s in scoring defense.

If they score above season average against Dayton (and don't get pantsed) I'll think it's a turnaround. Right now it just looks like a lull in the schedule.

While any road win especially in the conference is a good thing, lets not lose sight of the fact that UMASS was a worse team than us. They are now 1-5 in conference and 8-10 overall. It is not like we beat a top tier A10 team. Glad for the win but lets make sure we don't over inflate it and lose sight of the overall picture of where we are as a program..

Then explain the big win over Davidson a few days ago.

I must disagree with you MB, Pistols thread was good. No starters from the sophomore class in the resurgence and the good play continues without 1 of the 6 sophomore starting and if you want to win like the Billikens have won with Ricks players the recruiting must be better then a whole class of role players right now. I really enjoy seeing the sophomores play well and I liked the sophomore class that was recruited and signed. Unfortunately they have not been great players like Mike McCall, Cody Ellis, Kwmain Mitchell, those players played well as freshmen.

Oh? "Starting is for high school"... somebody said that.

  • Bartley 17 pts, 23 mins (an on line ESPN headline stated "Bartley Leads Billikens to Victory"
  • Reynolds 14 pts, 18 mins (8 assists)
  • Jolly 10 pts, 23 mins
  • Roby 5 pts, 16 mins
  • two key young talented bigs are hurt, or something
The sophs got a wakeup call, they know they need to get with the program, hustle, be team players. Will they? I think it is starting to happen. Will Milik come back and play the kind of ball we need him to play? We shall see.

I think that one or two of our sophs will start sometimes this year and certainly, maybe frequently, next year. They are sophomores.

Right after the Davidson victory, your lil buddy wrote about the sophs: "Are they simply a group of malcontents and disappointments, one that should be chalked up as a lost class and recruited over"? Charming. Do you think that is a fair statement? Respectfully, please answer.

Hey we won a couple, our chemistry has taken an amazing turn, but we will have trouble with teams with strong BIGS, we look to wind up with, what, maybe 13, 14 wins. Crawford is hobbling, Malik is ??, Gillmann is out. But we show promise, a good upside. No need for the usual suspects on this board to keep trashing our program. Let's see how it goes.

I would rather win every game than lose every game regardless what I think about the coaching situation. You aren't much of a fan if you couldn't enjoy the last two games.

I don't think anybody is hoping we lose every game - my earlier point was simply to keep all this in perspective. If we win out which would be great I still want Crews gone.

Not that it matters but the "starting is for high school" thing has always bugged me. Who starts and who comes off the bench makes a huge difference in terms of matchups, player combinations, etc. This lineup has allowed for better starts and then a more even matchup when each team gets to their bench

It would only be a fair statement only if they knew the players MB. All of us on this board want the team to do well but I have finally gotten to the point where I believe it could be a lost class. I read the one poster that thinks my comments are wrong because a couple of sophomores had a good game but the overall body of work for that class has not been good. For one the team has played much better minus two sophomores. As I said before I liked the class when they signed. I had hope for Jolly and I am happy about how well he played today. Miles Reynolds has been a pleasant surprise at times but the offense does not run well with him. One of my favorites Marcus Bartley has shown some life again after a slow start and I am one that likes the tall guards. Those that trash the program should speak their mind and should be heard and debated respectfully, that is what this site is all about. I have missed only one game this season and have watched or listened to the horrible games to the bitter end when the last seconds are timed out so I have lost confidence in the sophomores and the coach. GW, Davidson and UMass have been a nice treat so I agree lets see how it goes from here on and I hope you are right about the sophomores waking up.

We should all be honored that Donald Trump posts on our board, considering his other obligations right now.

Isn't the whole saying, "staring is for high school and what really matters is who is on the floor to finish?" When you are on the floor at the end of a battle, that's when you know the staff has the belief in you to do the right thing. Grandy Glaze started his true junior year, but rarely finished. You want your ballhandlers, your foul shooters, your heady/smart ballplayers, your defenders, your rebounders, etc., in to win the game as Herm Edwards would say. Obviously, a blow out doesn't matter but if you're examining the statement, use the whole thing.

SLU might've screwed 2 different A10 teams out of tournament bids

That is one thing that is kind of odd at least concerning Davidson losing to us (we beat GW with our bad lineup which is really sad for them). While our numbers as a team are still really bad (224 in Pomeroy and 190 in RPI), with our apparent turnaround the past week plus (relying on a different lineup and playing a different style) we are a much different team today than the team that largely contributed to those rankings (and those rankings have climbed quite a bit the past week). So for Davidson, the loss on paper is disastrous when in reality we are a decent team currently.

Wrong.

In reality, the team still sucks. College teams that give up 81, 92, 87, and 75 pts in their last four games are not decent teams.

Thinking that the team is currently decent is the kind of mindset that welcomes mediocrity.

Fire Jim Crews!

Actually our defense has not been that bad the last 2 games. We held Davidson to 40% shooting and Umass to 39%. We are giving up more points because we are playing at a much faster pace which in turn leads to more possessions and scoring opportunities for both teams. If you score in the 90s then it is very difficult to hold the other team to less than 70 points - see GS Warriors boxscores. Believe it or not, if the team continues to click as it has the last 2.5 games (a big if), teams may seek to slow down the pace against us - something I could never imagine happening to a SLU team.

In the last two games, we've given up 1.05 points per possession. On the season we're at 1.02 points per possession. In the last two games we've scored 1.19 points per possession and on the season we average .98 points per possession.

The defense was decent against UMass. It was bad against Davidson.

GMU (one of the worst teams in the A10) figured out how stop this new offense. Shut down the guards (JB, AH, MR & MB) were 10 of 34 for a 29%. For the Davidson games the same four players shot 15/24 for a sizzling 62%.

Another positive I am seeing are the T/O totals. If we can maintain it in the single digits, that's great.

Can we maintain this? No. We don't have that type talent. The season is a lost cause, so let the offense cut loose. On particular nights it will be very entertaining.

Another thing is recruiting. 3 and 4 star players love high scoring fast offense.

What I love to see is a coach, who can recruit and play this type offense.

I think this is where college basketball wants to go with all these rule changes to some how speed up the game & discourage this lock-down defense some teams (ala Majerus teams, didn't mind it when he employed it :) ) so successfully employ.
