I mean.  This class is loaded right?

I think most of us were excited about last years roster over the summer. This one appears much better on paper. Last year was an MVC level roster and maybe mid MVC after the injuries. This is a top A10 roster. Before injuries.

Huh?

Swope.PNG

There’s a case pending in which if a player prevails, players who played in Division 2 could gain additional eligibility on the basis that D2 eligibility use would not count towards D1 eligibility. Swope has to enter the portal before the deadline to preserve eligibility to transfer if D2 players end up gaining the additional eligibility .

This Swope guy looks like a good option for SLU. May have to pony up some NIL $.

So a a guy can play 2 years juco and then 4 years D2 and then 4 years D1??

There is at least one guy currently in the transfer portal that graduated high school in 2017.

What’s his name?

I don’t remember, but give me a little bit and I will find it.  He had a couple of seasons that looked liked medical redshirts.

Maybe if he went to D3 from JUCO he could have 4 more years on top of those?

Im in favor of keeping a spot open for Swope should he win the case and want to return

I also would be in favor of him coming back, but we’d have to keep in mind there’d be a good chance we lose 1 or 2 transfers currently committed that were expecting big minutes in a ball handling role.  Still, if he were eligible and wanted to return, I’d have a really tough time turning him down and watching him play elsewhere… so I think you obviously take him, even if it meant losing three years of Green.

Don’t blame Isaiah one bit… his earning potential in NIL has to be higher than what he could make overseas, so he’s gotta at least explore it. But these lawsuits are getting more and more ridiculous. I hope they draw a line in the sand on this one.

I'm also in agreement.  Run it back Mr. Swope.  And yes, there would be some issues.  Swope would play 30+ mpg, so the already tight allocation of minutes would be stretched.  Also, do we have any NIL $ left?  No reason for him to come back significantly under market value.

So if one or two already committed have second thoughts, so be it.  Is this where the NIL$ for Swope could come from?  (They likely will leave after one season anyway.)  But they may not be the one or two you think.  Swope not being a primary Creator is likely a benefit in Schertz's system.  Swope fits best as a Shooter, the role he played at ISU.

Another issue, how is the knee?  It limited him last season.

The timing on this D2 issue is intriguing.  The portal closes on the 22nd.  Rosters are filling up.  The 15 roster limit is still, currently, the guideline (yes it could change).  How many former D2 players might qualify for this extra year?  How many schools are 'saving' a spot for this possibility?  When will the decision be made by the NCAA?  To be continued.......

Im sure we're running somewhat low, but if for the right player, Im sure funds can be raised.

My educated guess on how SLU is handling NIL is that there is $X amount firmly committed to NIL pot, but as you said, funds can be raised if there's a can't miss player asking for more. What the limit on more is, I'm sure I don't have an idea.

Kutis Bucks, Lion's Choice Vouchers, and Billiken Bucks are all on the table. Billiken Bucks would be the sneaky NIL option because it's a pretty good walk from Grand Central to the Subway in the Food Court. So we'd probably save $, but if he did walk he'd get his steps in, so win win.

Swope isn’t a 30+ mpg guy on this projected roster.  I love Swope and want him back, but he isn’t the best option at point (or even second best option) and it is crowed with good options at the wing position.  27-30 mpg? Yeah, I probably could buy that.
